Activities at Leonard Lodge Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team offer a wide range of social events, from the very popular Friday morning bingo, to gentle exercise sessions, skittles, regular animal visits and arts & crafts sessions. We are fortunate to have a team of volunteers who stop by weekly to provide additional support, allowing residents the opportunity for one-to-one sessions. These sessions could include anything, even something as simple as playing a game of Scrabble or just having a cup of tea and a chat. We believe that it is essential to support people in such a way that they are able to continue to live full and happy lives doing the things that they enjoy.

Lynn Amiri

Activities Coordinator

My name is Lynn and I lead the Activities Team here at Leonard Lodge.

Since working at Leonard Lodge I have dedicated myself to ensuring that each of our residents can continue to partake in the hobbies that they have enjoyed for years. It is important that all of the residents here have access to life enriching, fun and social activities.

The whole home supports my team and I to organise activities, events and entertainment tailored to every residents preferences, abilities and needs. Each year we have a fantastically full calendar, and we look forward to the future when we can invite the families of residents to join us in the home again.

I am married with two children and two rather annoying rescue cats. I lived in Italy for a number of years and love all Italian food, especially when somebody else cooks it for me! I love to read, especially crime novels. I am a regular theatre goer with a passion for musicals. I like to sing and dance (albeit badly!).

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Valentine's Day Celebrations!

Today, we were delighted to welcome Tracey Lea, who entertained us with her wonderful music as we celebrated love and care within the Leonard Lodge community.

Beyond the special bonds shared by our couples, we also honoured the kindness and dedication shown by our staff to our residents and each other, every day. We are truly fortunate to be part of such a warm and caring community.

Down Memory Lane

Today, we took a trip out in the minibus to the Queens Theatre Hornchurch to see their ‘Down Memory Lane’ show.

It was a happy and nostalgic afternoon, filled with all our favourite songs that brought back special memories. We joined up with our sister home, Derham House, and danced along. Then we followed up with a lovely cup of tea and some biscuits to enjoy. It truly was the perfect way to spend an afternoon!

Fundangles

After spending the morning making Valentine's cards, residents took another trip out in our minibus, ‘The Adventurer’—this time to Ingatestone’s Seymour Pavilion for a lively Sing-A-Long Afternoon with the fantastic local group, ‘Fundangles’!

Our residents had an amazing time, singing along to the Beatles, the Monkees and ABBA and a whole host of others, as well as dancing and enjoying the music followed by tea and cake.

A Love Story to Celebrate

At Barchester Leonard Lodge Care Home in Hutton, we love to celebrate our residents and their lives and with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we’re delighted to highlight a truly special couple.

Resident, Ernest, and his beloved wife, Rita, will celebrate an incredible 69 years of marriage on 4th July this year! The couple tied the knot at the Church of St Nicholas in Herongate, which has stood as a part of the local community since 1744.

Their love story continues to inspire us all. General manager, Fiona Crickmore, said, "at Leonard Lodge we strive to create a warm and friendly atmosphere so that our residents and their loved ones feel at home, because we recognise the importance of family and Ernest, Rita and their loving family embody that philosophy. Congratulations to Ernest and Rita!

Happy Birthday Jean!

Another milestone birthday to celebrate today as our dear Jean reaches the remarkable age of 102!

On the day Jean was born, Andrew Bonar Law was serving as UK Prime Minister, and Warren G. Harding was President of the United States — a true testament to the incredible changes she has witnessed over the decades.

Congratulations, Jean! Wishing you a joyful birthday and a happy, healthy year ahead. Here’s to celebrating an extraordinary life!

Furry and feathered fun with performing pets!

One of our favourite ways to spend an afternoon is in the delightful company of Performing Pets. Today, we had the pleasure of meeting Pete, an 8-year-old female French Bulldog with a heart as big as her personality. Accompanying Pete, were her eight colourful male budgie friends, who she adores mothering—along with all the other animals on the farm!

Our residents enjoyed the chance to get up close and personal with these lovely animals, spending quality time petting them and learning more about them. It’s always a joy to see the smiles that these furry and feathered friends bring to everyone’s faces.

We can’t wait to see what lovely animals you bring next time!
