Activities at Henford House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in, as well as visits from PAT dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our cheese & wine nights, pub evening, quiz nights and special occasions such as, Guy Fawkes, Easter and Christmas where we like to encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Henford House is fun and active.

Debbie Phillips

Activities Coordinator

I joined Henford House in March 2014; after five and a half years of domiciliary care, this position became available at Henford and I decided that it would be great to do more of the fun things in life with residents! It is great here at the home; we get along so well and truly have some laughs. Residents have a wide range of activities to participate in each week, including armchair exercises, bingo sessions, singalongs, musical entertainment, pottery, manicures, celebrations and much more. It is very rewarding knowing that people are grateful for the work I've done when I go. Working here has also given me the opportunity to gain my Level 2 NAPA certificate.

Volunteer Recognition Day

Volunteer Recognition Day

On Wednesday 20th April we celebrated Volunteer Recognition Day with a special lunch provided for all the great volunteers that give up their time to come to Henford and spend time with the residents. Whether it's reading them a story, playing the quiz master at our popular quiz sessions or helping out with our pottery sessions and musical events - we couldn't do it without them!

A very big thank you to you all from all staff and residents at Henford.

Easter Egg Fun at Henford

Easter Egg Fun at Henford

On Saturday 26th March, Henford held the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Lots of children arrived very eager to find all the hidden eggs! With a little help from residents they managed to find them all. There was an Easter bonnet parade for people living in the home, a colouring competition for the children, an Easter raffle, and a 'guess the amount of Mini Eggs in the jar' - which residents enjoyed judging. All money raised was donated to Louie's S.M.I.L.E.S.

Hunt still on at Henford

Hunt still on at Henford

Despite the weather, Henford’s Easter egg hunt was still going to take place, as advertised, but on this day inside the home instead of outside in the gardens.

The children arrived and had fun with the Real Bunny, they took part in a colouring competition, they had the chance to win the jar of mini eggs by guessing how may were in the jar, and to name the furry bunny to win it.

They enjoyed the Easter biscuits, cup cakes and lots of chocolate!

Activities Co-ordinator says we decided to have rules this year. So all the children had the exact same amount of eggs, as in the past some have had more than others, which can cause an upset.

The egg hunt was just as difficult indoors as outdoors. The residents enjoyed watching the children hunt. There were more winners as the residents had their Easter bonnet parade and had them judged by one of our visitors, which ended with 2 winners.

The afternoon finished with a raffle with all the proceeds going to the

 “Louies S.M.I.L.E.S” charity.

Nibbly the Owl Pays a Visit

Nibbly the Owl Pays a Visit

Cherry came to Henford for the second time and brought Nibbly the Owl with her. Most of the residents held him with the security glove, and were amazed with his gentleness and the softness of his feathers.
