Activities at Harper Fields Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

There is always something to do here at Harper Fields and always someone to assist the residents in any activity they wish to take part in. We have entertainers come into the home to sing and play instruments on a weekly basis, as well as visits from PAT dogs, hairdressers, massage therapists and nail technicians to pamper those who live here. Residents' spiritual needs are taken into account at Harper Fields; we have regular services from the Catholic and Methodist church, in addition to the Church of England, and for our non-religious residents, we have a weekly calming and peaceful ‘mindfulness and meditation group,’ which is very popular, especially for those living with dementia. Residents often like to attend cinema evenings to watch their favourite films on the big screen (complete with sweets and popcorn), or develop new skills at our computer classes, where they can learn how to Skype their families in other countries. Our activities are tailored to suit the individual interests and capabilities of residents and our specialised equipment enables those we support to enjoy everything we have to offer.

Activity Appreciation Week

During our recent staff meeting we celebrated the recent National Activity providers and professionals week.

It was our opportunity to celebrate our amazing life enrichment tea, Activity coordinator Claire, Assistant Emma and Assistant Lisa. They always work hard to enrich the lives of all residents and always welcome feedback.

Out in the Community

We have been out in our mini-bus on a shopping trip to Central Six and to St Peter’s church this week. It's lovely to get out for the afternoon.

It's also lovely to see our residents go back to the church they used to go to when they were in the choir.

Wish Fulfilment

In a one-to-one, Agnes and I had a conversation about her hearing and how this was isolating her from the world, and she wished she could listen to the news and keep up to date with what is going on. Well, I granted this wish for her this week.

I brought Agnes some wireless headphones that she could connect to her television. She was so pleased that she wasn’t going to disturb anyone else with her loud telly any longer, and she could watch the news AND hear it directly. She was so pleased that she asked me to turn the subtitles off! Agnes is 101 years old and very open-minded when it comes to new technology! She is also pleased she can listen to her classical music and relax in her chair.

Alan's 94th Birthday

We recently celebrated Alan's 94th birthday!

We sang to him, blew up balloons, gave him presents, put banners up and the kitchen made him a fab birthday cake.

Happy Birthday, Alan!

Arts and Crafts - Bird Making

Our residents had a lovely arts and craft session making birds for their rooms!

Trying to forget about the cold weather and dream about spring when the new chicks are born.

Celia called her bird Fred!

Bingo at Harper Fields

What a busy start to the New Year at Harper Fields. Some residents have been learning new skills, including weaving, exercise movement and bingo.

Sounds of chatter and laughter were heard as everyone took part in the fun!
