What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"My mum has been living at Barchester Hampton Grove Care Home for the past fourteen months, she has vascular dementia and very little mobility now. I can honestly say this care home and all of the staff really care and have helped her and us transition into her new life. The management is always there to answer any questions and help anytime. If you do have a problem, it is always resolved straight away. The care team are wonderful with Mum, she is always showered, dressed, well taken care of and she is always treated with dignity and kindness. She has lovely meals provided as well as the extra cups of tea and cake! There are lovely trips to go on and entertainment each day provided by the excellent activities team. All of the staff, whatever their role in the care home, are simply amazing! They always make you feel welcome when you visit and they all help each other out. It's never easy having a loved one go into care but I know when I leave her after a visit, she is safe and very well looked after."

"What can I say about this place? My uncle came here for some respite after a short spell in hospital, he liked it that much he decided he wanted to stay full-time which was amazing, he enjoyed the activities and started making new friends, he wasn't here for long as we lost him in January and even after I lost him, the staff were still amazing. I often think about what he would be doing or where he would be adventuring to with the activity staff. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I wish I had written this sooner but been struggling."

"Very pleased with the care Dad is receiving. When our mum, the resident's wife, passed away the lovely lady at reception took my dad to the funeral and did a great job of looking after him and that was on a day she was on holiday. Really appreciated that. A lovely action."

"Oh my goodness, this care home is amazing! My mum went In for respite and settled in so well she stayed! All the staff have been amazing to my mum and my family. My mum had her birthday in there Tuesday and they spoilt her and even made her a cake. They make sure all her needs are met and are always helpful and cheerful. Thank you Hampton Grove. Also all the pictures on social media are lovely too."

"Staff are extremely helpful, put all my fears at bay, showed me all around the care home. I can ask any member of staff anything and they are happy to help, including management team. They make sure residents are happy in all aspects."

"My mother was a resident here, but died in December '23. Mum became unresponsive, but the care home did not notice, when informed by a visitor, they said "She's asleep". Mum's call bell had been taken from her room, so we will never know if she tried to get help or not. My mum died later that day in A&E, without ever regaining consciousness. The level of care afforded my mother was completely unacceptable. The Senior staff member was unhelpful and rude to us and Paramedics, giving false and misleading information to the 999 call handler and paramedics. Months on, still no explanation of when or why Mum’s buzzer had been disconnected and removed. To be fair, some of the more junior staff were very caring towards my mother during her stay and treated her kindly. If you are considering using this home for a loved one, be very careful. They present a great front, but behind the facade and glossy sales pitch, it is a very, very different place. Reported to the Manager, CQC and Safeguarding."

"I came for respite care for a month back in July. I loved it so much that I returned and became a permanent resident here at Hampton Grove. The staff are lovely and caring, they respect me and give me dignity at all times. I enjoy going out with activities. I have now become the resident ambassador for the home."

"Have visited my lovely elderly friend on many occasions now. The staff, carers and administration have all been very efficient and nothing has been too much trouble. They provide considerate care for each individual's needs (speaking only from what I have witnessed with regard to my friend and what has been seen around others gathered in the same area at the time). Residents seem happy in this environment and it looks very homely."

"As I've written previously, relating to my overall experience with Barchester Hampton Grove Care Home, this one solely relates to the activities team. My mother had a wonderful experience with an owl this week when the Birds of Prey team visited the home. My mother wasn't in the lounge when the birds were being shown, but the activity team made sure to bring the owl to my mother's room so she wouldn't miss out on the event. We very much appreciate their kind thoughtfulness for making the effort to include her in the activity, and we now have a great picture of my mother chatting with the bird! Thanks so much for going the extra mile to ensure residents are included and engaged!"

"I have only been once and I found the residence was excellent. My sister is happy there. She was a bit depressed I find the reason for this was that her friend stopped visiting her. Her friend phoned me to tell me she was not going back because no one told her what was going on. Now I've found her I will visit as often as I can."

"I have had experience of a care home before and was not prepared for the pleasant surroundings and the very kind attitude of all the staff. Not only is my partner feeling valued and settled and all her needs attended to with unbelievable patience. I am also now healing from a terrible few years. Thank you so much for your "care" home."

"Wow, what a treat! Mother was 103 and she was so spoilt. She was rather speedy in her youth so she was treated to a ride in a sports car! A party was arranged with entertainment, all this provided by the home. We will have such happy memories of this special day, all thanks to the wonderful staff. Mum had forgotten the experience two days later so a member of staff showed the tv clip to her twice so she was able to remember. This home goes above and beyond. Thank you."

"We placed Mum into respite care at Hampton Grove Care Home following a fall at home. She initially required 24-hour care due to her injuries and loss of confidence. She has recovered significantly thanks to the care of the staff. A special mention to the senior carer, carers and deputy (who welcomed my mum on the first night when she was very anxious). Thanks to her care, she has recovered and returned home. Overall, a very positive experience."

"My mother, who has dementia, has been a resident at Hampton Grove since December 2021, and over the years she has received very good care. The staff are dedicated, helpful and responsive, both to her and myself, and my mother is always treated with dignity and respect. I am consistently contacted for any issues or questions, and I feel that my mother's care is a high priority for the home. She is invited to participate in and be included in activities and outings, which I appreciate and which she enjoys. The management staff are always available, either in person or via telephone or email, and I have found them to be professional and proactive. The facilities are clean and well-kept, families and visitors are always welcome, and the home has a wheelchair-accessible van for outings. Overall, I am grateful that my mother is safe and well looked after and thankful for the care she is receiving."

"My mother moved into Hampton Grove Care Home in June 2022 and I have been delighted with the care she receives. Every single person is friendly, helpful, and communicative and every courtesy is extended to both residents and visitors. The care and compassion over the Christmas period were amazing, with thoughtful presents and joyful celebrations. Mum has just celebrated her 96th birthday at Hampton Grove and our family was made very welcome indeed. Mum again received gifts and the most beautiful cake in the shape of a piano! Absolutely wonderful-thank you all!"

"I have been lucky enough to spend 17 days at Hampton Grove Care Home after a full hip replacement surgery. During this time I found every member of the staff to be helpful, kind and patient. Excellent service-Well recommended. I would like to make three suggestions: Hooks to be provided in bathrooms for towels and clothing. Also, a gong would be useful to call residents to the dining room at mealtimes and every resident to be informed of the fire procedures on arrival at the home."

"Mum has lived in Hampton Grove for over 6 months now and I am delighted with the care she receives. She's always treated with great dignity and respect and has built happy, confident relationships with the staff, who work hard to get to know her likes and dislikes. When I visit, everyone is welcoming, helpful and cheerfully willing to go the extra mile. The communication from the staff is excellent and when Mum had the occasional medical issue dealt with it sympathetically and efficiently. Mum's recent birthday celebrations were amazing, with a beautiful cake in the shape of a piano - so thoughtful! Thank you all for everything you do."

"Dad has been in Barchester Hampton Grove since September and I can now say with confidence that we made the right decision in choosing there for his care. We were very emotional and torn having to decide to take Dad out of his home and into the safety of a care home, but all the staff and management at the care home have been so friendly and approachable and have worked with us on any teething problems along the way. Dad took a month or so to properly settle in, which is to be expected - it's a big change, but the carers have been amazing at building a rapport with him and making him feel more at home. When Dad has been poorly or had additional care needs, the staff are quick to notice and organise doctors and nurses when needed. They keep in close contact with us on matters too. I can recommend Barchester Hampton Grove as a well-run and caring place for your loved ones with dementia as we have had a positive experience there for the last 3 months."

"Mum has been living in the home nearly a year now, in ground floor residential. Staff are kind and caring and they have built up special bonds with Mum after getting to know her likes/dislikes. Mum has enjoyed her trips out to garden centres and pub lunches. All the staff work so hard for all the residents. Ground floor could do with redecoration, but overall, I would recommend this care home."

"My mother spent a couple of years at Hampton Grove Care Home. She was always happy and very content with the home and the staff. The activities are always entertaining and very suitable for her limited mobility. She had trips out to the coast and a visit by a horse! To name but a few. "Obviously, during the pandemic, it has been difficult to really give a well-informed opinion of the overall facilities and care. From the good rapport, my mum has with the carers that I have seen I am pleased that she is comfortable in their care. "It's taken a while but I'd like to thank on behalf of our family all the staff and management at Hampton Grove for their outstanding care of my mum in the last few months of her life. They took in a very poorly and confused elderly lady in the middle of a global pandemic and gave her the love and security that she needed, and made her feel safe and looked after. At the end of her life, they were very compassionate and supportive to us and helped us to cope with such a difficult time. We can't really thank any of them enough."

"As we are unable to enter the care home to visit mums room, I am sure the itemised list still remains as it was when we could see for ourselves. The standard the home gives is excellent (just a little freshening up of rooms would be suggested, as they do look rather tied). All the staff I encounter on my visit are very professional and caring. A very homely feel to the home and I deeply appreciate all the hard work carried out by all the staff. "Hampton Grove was Mum's happy, caring home for the last 20-months. Although quite a private person, Mum made lovely new friends with both residents and carers and enjoyed activities such a char aerobics, cake decorating and crafts. I could call or visit whenever I wanted and was always welcomed and brought up to date with and medical needs etc. They really upped their game during the covid pandemic, quickly locking down the home, wearing PPE and having staff and residents tested. They also found ways to continue the activity programme without outside help. I have already recommended Hampton Grove to others. Thanks for all your hard work and best wishes to all the team."

"Avery House has been a lifesaver for my father and me. Following a stroke, he was withdrawn, not getting out of bed or washing (even with carers) while living in his own home. Once in Avery, he was helped out of bed in the mornings. He is clean and happy. He is well fed and can mix with others though chooses often to eat in his room. He is helped with all daily activities. The staff are very caring and compassionate, despite my father having some inappropriate behaviour. The home is well run. Every one smiles and chats when I visit (daily). My only negative points are it is quite expensive compared to some other homes. But are they as good as Avery?"

"Avery House has restored my faith in residential care. My mother who suffers from Alzheimers was initially admitted for emergency respite care when my father was hospitalised but is now permanent. I have been impressed with the very good care shown as well as the approachability and friendliness of staff who listen and try to accommodate clients' needs. Medical care has been good and appropriate. My father is now also in residential care at Avery House, initially for respite following his hospitalisation, but has now requested to stay and he really likes it there. It was a welcome surprise to be invited for a care review for both parents to discuss any concerns or issues I might have had. I was also grateful of the offer of an escort for a hospital appointment. For me the only improvement is that there seems to be a loss of personal clothing through the laundry process. I have been a carer from afar and wish I could find somewhere equivalent on the South Coast closer to my home."

"In the two year's my uncle has been a resident I've visited virtually every week and I've never seen or heard anything going on which has caused me any concern. The staff say they want to treat residents as they would want their own mother/father to be treated and this comes across."

"Dad came here as a lonely 87 year old who had lost his confidence following a fall. In the time he has been here he has become part of a friendly and supportive community which has helped restore his quality of life, I would not trust his care to just anyone and searched for a while to find the right place for him. Avery House is definitely it and I would recommend it highly."

"Mum has been at Avery House Care Home for 5 years and has been happy most of that time. The staff are friendly and helpful and it is nice to know mum is being cared for in a well-run care home. I would recommend Avery House Care Home to others who are looking for care for a loved one in Peterborough. The management and team are always available if any concerns need to be raised and take any action if required in a timely manner. All in all a good home with the good staff."

"My wife was a resident of Avery House for five months until January 2017. She has Alzheimers and has difficulty in communicating her needs. The management and staff managed her difficulties with care and imagination and were always ready to chat and distract her if she was agitated or upset, over and above what was expected. Any problems were dealt with immediately. There was always a friendly welcome and I felt she was in a safe, secure environment. She was settled, enjoyed the activities. Unfortunately, her condition deteriorated to a point where she had to leave for a more suitable environment. Many thanks to Avery House."

"Avery House has a lovely setting and within a dedicated team of carers plus all of the other roles - managers, administrators, activities people, housekeepers, catering and maintenance staff - whose work is vital to provide a safe, secure and welcoming home for elderly people. It is a fairly large home which affords a highly-developed organisation but it still has a warm feel to it because the staff are friendly, and as it has four floors, each floor is like a little home in itself. I've always observed that residents are treated with warmth and dignity and I know that my mother is well looked after here."

"The first time I arrived at Avery House to visit my sister-in-law I was taken aback by the whole appearance, I thought I was in a 5 star hotel. The receptionist was very courteous and helpful, the members of staff I found equally helpful. The home is kept immaculately clean and up to date with its decor, my sister-in-law's room on the ground floor overlooks a beautiful garden through her patio doors. Every day there's a full itinerary of activities for the residents and trips out. The residents are treated with respect and kindness, I came away knowing that my sister-in-law is well cared for and happy."

"Welcome - first class, better than any other I have encountered. Staff generally caring, although some will rise to provocation - only human, focus on dementia. Activities treated as a priority - not as an optional extra as elsewhere. Any below standard staff do not last long. Comprehensive training, some of which I have experienced in my capacity as a volunteer with the activities team. Management team - very strong, there is not one of them I wouldn't have employed myself when in business."

"My mother-in-law moved into this care home in September. Before that she was in hospital for 10 days, previously having lived in her own home with carers attending. The team at this care home were excellent in the way they came to the hospital to assess Mum and explained all the procedures very clearly when my wife and I previously visited the care home. The transfer by the NHS was smooth and the welcome at the home was comforting and well carried out. Mum has a lovely light room and has settled in well with excellent support from all the staff. This move has taken a lot of stress out of our lives."

"My great aunt moved from her home of 50 years into Avery House Care home in May 2017. This was a huge lifestyle change and initially, she was upset as she could no longer live independently. The management and staff were extremely kind, caring and welcoming and this gave us (her family) huge comfort knowing she would receive the care and attention she required. The facilities and room were homely, clean and a very high standard. Unfortunately, my aunt died of a heart attack in September 2017 and the kindness, support and care they gave not only to my aunt but the family, went above and beyond expectations. They are simply amazing."

The staff are so supportive and make mum feel important and she loves to join in most activities and staff say she thoroughly enjoys it and always has a smile.
