Activities at Florence Court Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Jessica Duery

Senior Activities Co-Ordinator

I have been working in the Care Sector for 5 years and started out as a Domestic and Laundry Assistant. I decided that I wanted to progress my career in an Activities capacity so became an activities provider then progressed to an Activities Co-Ordinator which I did for 2 years prior to joining the team at Florence Court . I have a real passion for Activities and get a great deal of pleasure in enriching the residents life's through meaningful activities. I love getting to know the residents and spending time with them finding out what they love to do. Every day is very different and rewarding.

Alzheimer’s Society charity walk

Here at Florence Court, our residents had an incredibly special day as we took part in the Portsmouth Alzheimer’s society Memory walk! It was truly inspiring to see our residents, staff, and families come together to walk in solidarity for such an important cause. Each step we took, symbolized our commitment to providing the best care and resources for those living with dementia.

Because of everyone’s amazing generosity, we were able to raise over £300 for the Alzheimer’s society.

Thank you to everyone who donated and supported us, our residents are all very proud of their achievement.

Cocktails and Quiz

Here at Florence Court we donned our thinking caps and had a lovely afternoon in the garden doing a group quiz. Our residents loved getting together for this, enjoying the beautiful September sun and having a delicious glass of Pimms/fruity cocktail. We all had a wonderful time and got our brains engaged with some general knowledge.

Arts and crafts

Recently our residents enjoyed getting creative doing some decoupage. We made some beautiful letters that spell out our home name and look wonderful in our reception area. Our art sessions are always relaxing for our residents and boosts their confidence and self-esteem by offering a feeling of independence and accomplishment. We made a lot of mess with the glue but had a lot of fun doing it and can’t wait to finish it off at our next art session.

Sailing Trip

“ We teamed up with sister home Snowdrop Place Care Home - Barchester Healthcare and took our residents with a couple of theirs on a boat trip with Wetwheels Hamble. The trip went along the River Hamble and then over to Cowes where we stopped for a spot of lunch.  Our residents had a wonderful time and we even got to have a go at driving the boat which was definitely a highlight for Eddie who spent a lot of his career in the Navy. We’re very grateful to Wet Wheels, we had such a wonderful day making memories.”

Florence Court Olympics

“ What a great day we all had! Our residents and families loved watching our staff compete in all our different races. We had all the classic sports day races; egg and spoon, three legged, skipping, space hoppers, wheelbarrow and our extra special Florence inflatable race! A few of our residents even got involved in the egg and spoon race. There may have been a lot of cheating throughout but it was definitely one of our best days of the year so far”

What a bloomin lovely day!

We enjoyed a minibus trip to Hayling Island for Sam's Sunflowers. Our residents love being outside in nature and what better way to enjoy a summers morning than walking around picking sunflowers. They loved being able to choose their own bunch and had a great time admiring all the beautiful flowers! It was a bit hot but definitely worth it for the great scenery and everyone had a wonderful time.
