Activities at Florence Court Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Abigail Filkins
Activities Co-ordinator
Hello, I'm Abi and I have proudly been part of the Florence Court team for the past three years. I started as an Activities Assistant where I helped facilitate activities within the home, and during this time I have loved getting to know our residents and helping to make every day special. Having been promoted to Activities Coordinator, my role is to plan, organise and deliver a wide variety of activities that bring enjoyment, stimulation, and a sense of community to everyone who lives here.
For me, the most rewarding part of my job is seeing residents smile, laugh and connect with others. I thoroughly enjoy taking the time to get to know all of the residents, learn about their hobbies, interests, and hearing about their life stories. Everyday is different and this is what makes my role so unique and rewarding, to know you are enriching the lives of others.
Outside of work, I have a passion for travel and exploring new countries. I have been to over 25 countries and counting! I also love spending time with my lively Sprocker Spaniel Maisie, who is the best adventure buddy.
Celebrating life at Florence Court Care Home
The Wind in the Willows Play
Today we enjoyed a trip to West Hill Park School to watch their dress rehearsal of their musical rendition of The Wind in the Willows.
The children all put so much hard work into their performance, and you could tell how much time and effort was put into the whole production by the school. The set was absolutely fantastic.
The residents at Florence Court were overjoyed watching their performance and had a wonderful time!
Cheese and Wine Evening
We had a wonderful evening yesterday, enjoying cheese and wine in our beautiful garden, taking in the late sunshine!
We sampled a delicious variety of cheeses, crackers, and tasty accompaniments. It was still beautifully warm – the perfect setting for a relaxing evening!
We are very much looking forward to our next evening of fun!
National Gardening Week
We had a wonderful time celebrating National Gardening Week here at Florence Court!
Our residents got their green fingers at the ready and spent the morning planting a variety of beautiful flowers to brighten up our garden. There was plenty of laughter, teamwork, and joy as everyone got involved—whether it was digging, planting, or simply enjoying the fresh air and sunshine!
Gardening is such a lovely way to bring people together - residents and staff have worked very hard this last week to improve the space and we can’t wait to watch everything bloom!
Well done to everyone who took part—you’ve truly made our garden that little bit brighter
Getting Creative for Easter!
We got into the spirit of Easter with a lovely painting session and also made paper flowers for spring!
Our residents spent an afternoon getting creative, using bright colours and beautiful designs to celebrate the season. It was wonderful to see so many smiles and moments of calm as everyone expressed themselves through art.
Activities like these not only spark creativity but also support wellbeing. A big thank you to everyone who got involved.
Happy Mother's Day
We celebrated Mother's day in style by inviting families to attend a cream tea, held in our beautiful bistro! We had a fabulous afternoon, filled with cakes, tea and entertainment by the amazing Amanda Parsons - Songbird Entertainments, who had everyone up and grooving!
Our Resident Ambassador Barbara helped to greet people, show them to their seats, and even helped serve the sweet treats too. A big thank you to all the staff who made the afternoon possible. It was so nice to see everyone so happy and dancing the afternoon away!
Summer afternoons at the pub
Last week, we enjoyed a relaxing trip to Titchfield Mill for drinks in their beer garden. It was lovely to cool down with refreshing beverages and to socialise with friends.
The sun was shining, and we spent the afternoon laughing together, sharing stories about places we’ve visited, lived, and the experiences we’ve had along the way.
A Morning Full of Music and Smiles
A huge thank you to Amanda Parsons - Songbird Entertainments for coming in to sing for us recently!
Our residents had such a wonderful time enjoying the music, singing along, clapping, and dancing the afternoon away.
It was lovely to see so many smiling faces and hear everyone joining in with the songs. Music always brings back happy memories and creates such a warm atmosphere in our home.
Thank you again, Amanda, for such a fantastic performance, we can’t wait to welcome you back again soon!
A Delightful School Visit!
We had such a sweet visit from West Hill Park School recently. The residents and children were all very engaged in various games and puzzles!
Their visits bring a lot of happiness to our residents and bring back lovely memories about their children, and even their own childhood!
We can't wait to have them back again soon!
A Very Egg-citing Visit!
Children from West Hill Park School visited us for an Easter Egg hunt and they all had a wonderful time. Residents and children worked together to find all of the colourful eggs hidden in the garden.
It was also the schools special dress up day, where the children dressed up as what they would like to be when they are older. Doctors, police, actors … one little girl even met our head chef as that is her dream job!
A wonderful afternoon was had by all and we can't wait for their next visit
Happy International Women's Day
At Florence Court, we celebrated International Women’s Day by making handmade cards, each with a special message inside to remind the wonderful women in our home, just how strong and powerful they truly are. Barbara, our Resident Ambassador, visited and spoke to our lovely ladies. They were so happy to receive their cards, and it sparked a lovely conversation about what being a woman means to each of them!
Some shared how much they loved caring for and supporting their families, while others spoke about how they were raised to believe that women can achieve anything they set their minds to. It was also a moment to remember and honour the suffragettes who fought so bravely for the rights and freedoms women have today.
A big thank you to all the amazing women out there! Our friends, mums, daughters, sisters, and all the women who are such a special part of our lives. Womanhood is a powerful part of who we are, and it’s so important that we continue to support, uplift, and celebrate one another!
Father's Day BBQ
Father’s day was celebrated in style here at Florence Court with a BBQ and amazing entertainment from Nathalie Gunn.
It was a beautiful, hot and sunny day filled with laughter, dancing and unforgettable memories.
Thank you to all our staff for their assistance and a big shout out to our wonderful kitchen team for ensuring all resident’s and their families were catered for.
VE Day Celebrations in full swing!
At Florence Court we kick started celebrating VE Day with a wonderful afternoon full of music, laughter, tea and cake.
Our residents had a brilliant time singing along to classic songs and joining in with karaoke, there were smiles all around! A special thank you to our lovely chef Jander for the beautiful homemade cakes which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
We were also treated to a beautiful performance of Over the Rainbow by our carer Faith, which made the afternoon even more special.
Thank you to all the staff involved in making it a truly lovely afternoon, spent together making happy memories.

Our beloved PAT dog Isla!
Isla is such a calm, gentle girl and honestly just loves being around people. Whether she is sitting quietly next to someone or getting a few strokes, she just has a way of making everyone feel more relaxed and comfortable. She even gets given a biscuit or two, which we are sure she loves!
You can really see the difference she makes when she visits … she brings a lot of happiness and our residents look forward to seeing her. We’re so proud of her and how much joy she brings to our home.
Pizza Perfection!
Our residents had a wonderful time making their own pizzas recently! From rolling the dough to choosing their favourite toppings, everyone created some delicious masterpieces. There were plenty of colourful toppings to choose from including meats and veg! You also can't go wrong with a little extra cheese for good measure.
Food-based activities are a fantastic way to engage the senses, encourage creativity, and support hand–eye coordination, all while having lots of fun together.
We’re already looking forward to our next cooking session!
