Activities at Epsom Beaumont Care Home

At Epsom Beaumont, the daily activities always aim to be enjoyable for all. Our Activities Coordinator is constantly working to mentally and physically stimulate each resident and ensuring that our programme is define moulded to the wants and needs of those we support. We host weekly outings to many local coffee shops, and also some bigger trips to Brighton and the Brooklands Museum. Our outings tend to be a new and exciting experience for residents, but are sometimes repeated for those who could not make the trip the first time. The activity schedule changes weekly, but there are some regularities, such as our crossword and bar nights, where families are invited to join their loved ones for a social evening. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home and we are proud to say we have a dedicated Activities Coordinator who is supported by all of the care team to really make it successful. We have received excellent feedback from residents and relatives, which only makes our bond with them stronger.

Louisa Capaldi

Activities Coordinator

I always said when I started working I wanted to have a rewarding job that puts a smile on people’s faces and makes their day just that little bit brighter! I started working in the care sector as a hospitality Assistant, and then became a carer and then the activities coordinator. I really enjoy getting the residents up and moving, and getting active. I enjoy learning new things about the residents and doing meaningful activities with them that they enjoy and benefit from.

Our residents have been saying “Bonjour”, “Merci”, and even singing along to classic French tunes in their weekly French lessons with Myriam Gelling from ALTetude French Tutoring.

Learning a new language is a wonderful way to keep the mind active, share some laughs, and explore new cultures right from the comfort of home. From greetings to ordering a croissant, our residents are loving the chance to try something new.

A trip to the cinema

A trip to the cinema

Residents enjoyed going on a trip to the Odeon Cinema in Epsom to watch the new David Attenbourgh film, Ocean. Steve, a resident of Epsom Beaumont, really wanted to watch the film when it came out in the cinemas.

Knowing this, Louisa Capaldi, the home's activity coordinator, planned a special trip to the cinema so he was able to see the film. Steve said “It was such a fascinating film, I really enjoyed going to the cinema to watch it. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.”

VE Day Party!

VE Day Party!

Epsom Beaumont Care Home marked the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day in style by throwing a 1940s afternoon tea party to remember.  The home was decorated in red, white and blue and residents and staff dressed up in their 1940s-inspired glad rags and enjoyed an afternoon of live music and dancing. Head chef Rostom Abidi whipped up a delicious selection of freshly-baked biscuits, sandwiches, cakes and pastries for the occasion, all washed down with pots of tea and a celebratory glass of fizz to mark the occasion.

Residents observed the national two-minute silence and listened again to Churchill’s iconic speech accepting Germany’s surrender and an address from the Queen. They reminisced about their memories of VE Day and watched clips of the celebrations that took place outside Buckingham Palace and all across London. Ervin Gergely, General Manager at Epsom Beaumont Care Home said: “Many of our residents can remember the end of the war, and we all know what it meant for our country, so we wanted to celebrate the date and listen to our residents’ memories of the war and the experiences they lived through.”

The day the farm came to visit us!

The day the farm came to visit us!

Epsom Beaumont care home was full of animal mischief on Friday 18th April when the farm came to visit the home. Residents at the home were pleasantly surprised to see animals such as piglets, lambs, chickens, ducks and guinea pigs roaming around their lounge as Browells Farm paid a visit.

General Manager Ervin Gergely said: “Our residents really enjoyed their unusual visitors, We knew that having the farm here would be a bit of fun for all our residents, especially as some find it difficult to go on many outings in our minibus.  We are always looking for new activities for the residents and we have seen the seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence animals can have on people.”
