Activities at Elm Bank Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Activities Coordinator

Tina Prosho

Activities Lead

Hello my name is Tina and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Elm Bank Care Home.

I joined Elm Bank in May 2023 as a Team Leader soon becoming the Head of Care before moving to the role of Activities Coordinator and leading the team in January 2024. My passion is to provide life enriching activities that enhance the lives of our residents.

By providing entertainment that is not only stimulating but person-centred. Our weekly calendar offers rich experiences with music from live entertainers, visits to various locations outside the home of interest, as well as arts and crafts tailored to individual abilities. We are a pet friendly home and fully support the benefits animal therapy can bring to the lives of our residents and welcome animals of all kinds to the home on a regular basis.

Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular family and friends meetings we can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining Elm Bank that will make for a richer activities program to be developed. I look forward to getting to know you, and your loved ones.

We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.

Joint Birthday Celebrations

On August 29th we celebrate not one but two beautiful ladies' birthdays! Fiona, or as we like to call her 'little Miss Speedy' turned 96 and music loving Jane; 71. We hope you enjoy the freshly made cakes and have the happiest of birthday's ladies from all at Elm Bank.

Empathy Dolls

Today on Daisy Lane some of the residents enjoyed spending time with the homes empathy dolls. There is evidence showing that the use of Empathy dolls can be particularly helpful for those who may not be engaging with others, or who are restless, distressed or anxious, improving their well-being and ability to communicate.

Our lovely ladies took great pleasure in getting to know the dolls, naming them ‘Geraldine and Olivia’ and chatting about their own children.

Happy 102nd Birthday 'Fabulous Fred'

Happy 102nd Birthday to the fabulous 'Fred' who seems to look younger every year!

As we gathered together in the gardens of Elm Bank, Fred and his lovely wife Kathleen and son Peter were treated to a rendition of Happy Birthday from staff, friends and fellow residents.

Head Chef Sharntelle knew exactly what to add to his cake to make it just perfect, his favourite chocolate bar... 'Cadbury Flakes'. Keep smiling our super centenarian Fred, we hope you enjoyed your little surprises.

National Dog Day - Dog Show

Every dog has its day and this week our residents got up close and personal with some furry friends when they celebrated all the wonderful things about man’s best friend by staging a dog show for National Dog Day.

National Dog Day is an annual event to raise awareness of the number of dogs in rescue centres and to encourage people to adopt dogs from shelters and dog homes.

Our residents had a brilliant time meeting the various breeds from Doberman to Labradoodle, Shih Tzu and Pug. We learnt from the owners all about each pooches favourite foods and characteristics.

Staff and residents watched on as the dogs paraded around the Elm Bank lawns stopping for cuddles and strokes by family and friends as the crowd tried to decide on a winner for each category.

It was a unanimous decision to give every dog a golden first prize rosette as they made our residents’ day so very special!

Categories included prettiest bitch that went to Doberman puppy ‘Narla’ with ‘Buddy’ getting most handsome dog, and one-eyed ‘Bruce’ receiving waggiest tail and Ava the pug most well behaved!

General Manager, Katie Hudson, said: “Our residents love animals and lots of them have owned dogs in the past so it was lovely to hear their stories about the different things their dogs had got up to!

We would like to thank everyone who brought their dog along to the show, our doors are always open to making new community connections, those with two or four legs!”

Owl Awareness Day

Owl Awareness Day on 4th August celebrates the mysterious and fascinating creatures of the night; Owls!

With large eyes, stocky bodies, and short tails it's a wonder that there nocturnal birds of prey are such incredible hunters. They can see, hear and communicate in the dark making them some of the most successful predators in the world.

Our residents think they’re also very beautiful creatures and dedicated their arts and crafts session to creating some colourful owls for display on their special day.
