Activities at Edingley Lodge Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Edingley Lodge Care Home

Christmas lights switch on
Residents, staff, friends & families had a great evening during our Christmas lights switch on, We were joined by BBC East Midlands weatherman Rob Rose who kindly done the honours of switching our Christmas lights on and gave a great speech, We had live entertainment from singer Russell Weaver, Who got everyone singing and dancing. It truly was a wonderful festive atmosphere! It was a joy to see everyone come together, enjoying mince pies and mulled wine while celebrating the start of the holiday season.
Displaying lights during Christmas predates the holiday itself. It started in Scandinavian countries to brighten up Winter Solstice to turning night into day. They did it with Yule logs, bon fires and candles. Early Christian adopted this pagan tradition without fear of persecution.

Fireworks display
Residents, staff and visitors had a wonderful time on bonfire night, The beautiful fireworks display captivated everyone, Children were delighted with their sparklers, We served hot chocolate with a drop baileys and cream, toasted marshmallows alongside traditional bonfire night treats such as, Hot dogs, burgers, jacket potatoes and chips, It truly was an amazing night to remember!
The Catholic plotters had intended to assassinate Protestant king James I and his parliament. Celebrating that the king had survived, people lit bonfires around London. Months later, the Observance of 5th November Act mandated an annual public day of thanksgiving for the plot's failure.

Diwali Celebrations
Residents had a brilliant day as they marked the start of the Hindu festival of Diwali, popularly known as the ‘festival of lights.
Residents helped with making colourful patterned rangoli and lighting ‘divas’, small oil lamps which are lit to signify the triumph of good over evil. Diwali honours Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, the lamps help Lakshmi find her way into people’s homes. Residents enjoyed a dance performance by Sankranti association of Nottingham,
Head chef Marta prepared traditional Indian dishes including a range of warming curries, spicy samosas and then followed by traditional Indian sweets such as galam jamun and barfi for the residents to enjoy.
