What our families say: Drummond Grange Care Home
"From the reception desk, right through the home Staff are friendly, cheerful and helpful. Myself and three other visitors had lunch, which was enjoyable. Afterwards, there was music and dancing. My resident friend fairly came alive during this. Her room was very cold, so I mentioned it to a carer, who said it had been noted that the radiator wasn't working and it would be fixed. We left at 3.20 and it hadn't been repaired. I trust that it was fixed later."

"My wife and I can do nothing but sing the praises of all the staff we came into contact with during Mum's residence at the home over the past three years. Everyone was lovely, very kind and caring and always had time for a chat when we visited. Amazing facilities, rooms were spotless and the food always looked and smelled very good. The staff couldn't do enough for Mum and were so caring, right to the end of her life."

"I visit my cousin regularly. I am always impressed by the friendliness of all the nursing staff and other staff. They always ask how are you today? Which shows their concern by the relatives. My cousin has had on a few occasions, some concerning problems which were dealt with quickly and professionally. My cousin is very happy and contented here. I wouldn't wish to have him anywhere else."

"The overall care for my relative in this home is outstanding except for the fact they don't sometimes take into account anything we wish to be done to our relative. Always seems to be the same clothes, they are always clean but tend to be the same ones, and her wardrobe is full of clothes. Items seem to go "missing" frequently and no one knows where they disappear to."

"First impression on entering Drummond Grange lovely wide corridors, clean and fresh, staff welcoming and helpful. Nurses and carers making the patient feel at ease, friendly with a sense of humour and doing their best to help settle them in. Roon choice could be better suited to the patient and needs. Information paper would be useful re-labelling personal clothing and belongings."

"We came to visit our aunt. We had a birthday celebration in the Sensory Room. The staff were very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. My aunt looked happy and cared for sharing jokes and fun with the staff. The Piper was excellent, very patient and friendly with us all. I would recommend Drummond Grange. Many thanks to all."

"We brought our mother to visit her sister. It was our mother's 95th birthday. The staff were very helpful and we had a small gathering to celebrate our mother's birthday with her sister. We live in Plymouth so they do not get to see each other often due to their age and the travel."

"I commend all the wonderful staff for caring for my friend so kindly. At last, he seems to be 'finding' himself again. The newly decorated Drummond Grange is graceful and inspired by sensitivity. The overall feeling there is efficient and yet peaceful. Thank you."

"Feels more like a home from home rather than a care home, in lovely surroundings. Every member of staff is warm and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. The staff are all very professional and my family member is treated with much respect and dignity. The food is also very good and plenty of choices and caters for personal preferences."

"Find this care home well run. Staff are kind and caring while under sometimes very difficult circumstances. Rooms need to be upgraded. Washable flooring, walk-in showers would be better for residents and staff for certain residents!! (Dementia). Barchester Drummond Grange Care Home is excellent and would recommend it."
Ann Mcarehome.co.uk rating: 4.33 out of 5
"My partner has been in care here for nearly 2 years and really likes it here. She is really well looked after and there is a lot for her to so. I think it is excellent and the staff are really nice and very helpful. The food is really nice and they have a really good choice. They all do a great job. Well done."

"I have visited my friend who has been a resident of Barchester Drummond Grange Care Home for some time on a number of occasions. On each occasion, I find the staff are extremely helpful, the facilities to be clean and maintained to a high standard. The Grange is a bright airy place and has a warm friendly atmosphere. Nothing is too much trouble for the manager and staff who genuinely care and go out of their way to ensure residents are well looked after with lots of activities to get everyone involved and made to feel important and not excluded."

"Drummond Grange is simply the best care home in the Edinburgh area. Excellent care staff, great management team and a lovely airy atmosphere with excellent lounges, dining rooms and bedrooms. We look forward to taking mother out into the grounds in summer where the woodland setting with nice flowerbeds will make her days happy. Well done on the refurbishment."

"My mother is being very well cared for. Her needs are met and the staff are very kind and caring. She was always very well dressed and the staff are keeping this up by coordinating her outfits, which I really appreciate. When medical attention is required, she receives it very promptly. Overall, as her memory declines she seems content."

"In my view it is the biggest decision of your life to make; do you place your loved one in an 'institution'? Do you admit you cannot give the required care and attention any more and do you ask others to care for your loved one as much as you have tried to do? Having gone through this a year ago and with my wife still in the care of Drummond Grange, I can honestly say all of my fears have been banished. The guilt will never leave, but knowing your loved one is cared for, respected and, dare I say it, so clearly loved by the staff, it makes life so much easier. I wouldn't wish the situation on anyone, but if you are in that position I would have no hesitation in entrusting the care of my loved one to Drummond Grange."

"I can only praise the care home for everything they do. I am always welcomed and kept informed about my son. The home is immaculate and my son is always showered and shaved every day. The staff are always very pleasant and friendly. The atmosphere in the home as a whole is extremely comforting, especially to me as I was so concerned when my son had to move to a nursing home because I could not provide the specialist care required."

"Drummond Grange is a welcoming and friendly care home. Permanent staff take time to get to know residents and their family, which is appreciated. The building itself is suitably built but also has a lovely, homely feeling."

"I cannot praise the nursing/care and management enough. This was my first experience of care homes and I cannot believe how happy this establishment has made my son, who is a resident, and myself. We were both very apprehensive of this decision for him to go into a care home but feel it is the best decision we have made for him. He has only been a resident for a short time and we are confident that the care he will receive will improve his total well being in the future."

"My Husband is not yet in the care home, we are eagerly awaiting a place. I viewed it and was very impressed with everything I saw and witnessed and I did not make an appointment, I just walked in off the street as an enquiry to Drummond Grange and another care home and both were exactly the same. My husband is really looking forward to getting in. We have been assessed and accepted and that went great.l"

"Although my husband has been in Drummond Grange Care Home for a short time there has been a marked improvement in his well being. His mood has lifted and he has begun to say more words. (He had almost lost all his speech). He is looking around more and engaging with others more, both family and carers. There is also a marked improvement in his personal care, always clean and tidy."
J Mcarehome.co.uk rating: 4 out of 5
"All visits to the home are impromptu by me, but never changes in regards to what I have seen; good attention to residents in all areas of care ie. food, fun, activities and personal attention. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Drummond Grange to anyone looking for a place of similar needs for their loved ones."
T Wcarehome.co.uk rating: 4.92 out of 5
"I found staff very happy and respectful of their charges. Activities plentiful and well organised. Food excels normal and varied. Visits by me are always enjoyable. Overall, very well run. I would be happy to be a resident."

"Excellent care. My mother could not be better looked after. The staff are all excellent and my mother has her dignity back after a few years of neglecting issues. The staff keep my mother well dressed as she used to be. She is well fed, hygienic, has her hair done each week. Although I do not want her to be in a care home, I know none better who would look after her so well."
Dianne Dcarehome.co.uk rating: 4.17 out of 5
"Although I must say I am not happy to be here due to my circumstances, because of my requirement for care, I am content. I have found care provided has been excellent. The food is again excellent, the single most enjoyable and beneficial factor of my stay would be the physiotherapy."

"My mum was admitted to Dalhousie Unit in December 2017 having been in 6 places previously. She suffers from severe dementia and from our initial visit to today, she and the family have been treated with nothing less than friendship, dignity and understanding. Her room is first class and we are delighted with this home - thankful we found it after a long search. We hope this can be her forever home. Thanks to all the team for all you do."

"I am impressed by the home. The staff are invariably cheerful, smiling and helpful from the management down. I think they treat my relative with dignity and compassion and she is not the easiest person to deal with. Staff invariably change, yet the change is managed and appears seamless with no drop in standards."

"My partner went into Barchester Drummond Grange Care Home two months ago and you could not wish for any more out of a care home. She is treated with untold dignity and looked after extremely well. The food is really good and I have something to eat every time I go to visit (2 - 3 times weekly). The staff and management go out of their way to help everyone under their care. They do a super job of running the home the way it should be run."

"There is no washing up liquid or cloth to wash up the cups and some cups are disgusting and nothing to clean the sink! very surprised at that. Fingernails do not get cut we have to do it, very rarely does this happen. Sometimes he is cold when we go in, I don't know if they check or feel his arms? He does not speak to tell."

"Dad is looked after brilliantly. All the staff were so friendly and helpful and could not have done more for dad before in the later stages of his life. I would not have any hesitation in recommending Drummond Grange to anyone that would require the same sort of care that dad needed."

"Staff second to none, can not praise them highly enough. The way they cared for my dad was impeccable, the way they were considerate to us as a family was also impeccable. The facilities as far as we used were clean and comfortable. Nothing was a bother to them (and I asked a lot). Unfortunately, dad never has a lot of time, but his last days were as good as we could ask. Thank you again from all our family."

To the staff,
On behalf of my sisters and myself, we would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the care and attention you gave our Mum, the time she was with you, it was all we would have wished for and more. We know she could be stubborn but we know you were all brilliant with her. Thank you so much.
Mum and dad have been heartily welcome into Drummond Grange and as a family we are all delighted that they have settled so well. They are cared for not only professionally but with care and compassion. All the staff are so friendly and helpful. The meals are excellent. We are delighted by the activities that they can get involved in, as well as the outings. One main thing is that the staff are all "on the ball" if and when needed, and we know mum and dad are in the best possible hands. We have definitely chosen the best place for our parents. Thank you.
