Activities at Cumberland Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Gosia Andrews

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Gosia and I am the Activities Co-Ordinator here at Cumberland Grange.

I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied Life Enrichment Programme which is full of fun activities for our residents to take part in. We do lots of different activities here which change on a regular basis, including weekly trips out in our mini bus, flower arranging, live musical performances, arts and crafts, cheese and wine nights and so much more. We also have groups which happen every week, mostly lead by our residents, including Poetry Club, Gardening Club, Politics and Pastries, Cumberland Grange Choir and Knit and Natter.

We have monthly resident meetings where we discuss life at Cumberland Grange. We talk about the activities that we currently run, including activities that our residents would like us to incorporate into the planner.

Making wishes come true is also something that we love to do. So, if our resident has a wish, together we try our best to make that happen, because life at Cumberland is about having fun and making even more special memories.

What a beautiful evening we had down at The Passage House Inn, Topsham yesterday.

A great atmosphere, glorious sunshine, wonderful company and great views!

Joined by our General Manager Beth and our official Cumberland Grange volunteers Edward and Sophie.

Many people worry about what coming into care may look like for them. Here at Cumberland, this is an example of what it can look like - we are a fun and vibrant home, with lots of different things going on all of the time! It’s a place where friendships are made and family are welcomed with open arms every time they step foot inside.

We are proud of our home and what our team and residents have created.

Summer Fete

Thank you all so much for coming along to our summer fete on Saturday in support of Royal Devon Hospitals Charity.

We all had such a good time and loved welcoming lots of people into our home to join us. We have such an amazing community, don’t we?

We are thrilled to share that we raised a wonderful £262.70 for the charity from the cake sale, book sale, raffle and donations towards the amazing food our chefs made.

We’d love to also say a huge thanks to all of the incredible independents who came along with stalls full of goodies - it was such a treat to have you all with us!

TRAIN TRIP

Today, we took a trip to Exmouth on the train!

Something our residents haven’t done for a long time, and some of whom were visiting Exmouth for the first time.

We had a lovely time, enjoying the journey and scenic views, followed by breakfast and a mooch around the town before heading back home for lunch.

A really enjoyable trip out and we can’t wait to go again.

DEMENTIA DISCO

Some wonderful photos of our dementia disco!

Everyone had such fun.

We were moving and grooving, singing to our favourite songs and enjoying delicious canapés.

On the disco menu was some old school classics as well as some much loved fancy nibbles:

- Smoked Salmon with crème fraiche and caviar

- Prosciutto & melon

- Cheddar & pineapple

- Strawberry panna cotta

- Strawberry vodka shots

All made from scratch by our wonderful Head Chef Chris.

We will be holding regular dementia discos going forward here at Cumberland, and we would love to invite our community to join us! Because everyone should be able to enjoy great music, a good boogie and lovely reminisce.

Keep an eye out for our next one.

LIFE AT CUMBERLAND GRANGE

Cumberland is a wonderful place to be!

We know just how important it is for our residents to feel well cared for, respected, supported to live as independently as possible and to live a life that is fun, fulfilling and meaningful.

We support our residents in making connections with other residents, visitors and our wonderful community so that they are fulfilled socially, too!

& not only that, but our dedicated team build such wholesome relationships with our residents. Whether that’s putting the world to rights over a cup of tea, looking at special photos of loved ones together, going for a walk around our local area or in our beautiful garden or watching a film together, to name a few.

Social interactions are a huge part of happiness and wellbeing, and it is certainly something we are so passionate about here at Cumberland.

NATIONAL PICNIC WEEK

We couldn’t let International Picnic Week go a miss, so our fabulous chefs made delicious scones with cream and jam and a variety of different cakes, served with fresh strawberries and whipped cream.

Our residents also enjoyed some fruity Pimm's and tea whilst listening to gentle music in the warm sunshine.

What a beautiful afternoon!
