Activities at Beeston View Memory Lane Community
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Luisa Painemilla
Hi there, I'm Luisa, Activities Co-ordinator at Iddenshall Hall.
I have worked with the elderly over 8 years and also for fifteen years in the social field as an Activities Coordinator for different social groups in three countries. I have a Degree in Social Integration, a Certificate in Theatrical Psychology and a Music Therapy certificate. In the past I have worked for local authorities and in a cerebral palsy home.
My work is very rewarding and it is a pleasure planning events and activities each month. I enjoy interacting with Residents and learning about their interests, preferences and experiences.

Life at Beeston View Memory Lane Community
Raffa Visits Beeston View
The Head of Maintenance, Jeff, brings his dog "Raffa" with him to work occasionally and he is always very popular with the residents at Beeston View and Iddenshall Hall. "Raffa" is fed biscuits and treats which the residents sneak for him and he gets lots of cuddles and attention. "Raffa" is a lovely dog who is always impeccably behaved and very gentle.
Pet Therapy is very beneficial for the residents, who, without exception, always respond positively to dogs who visit, sometimes the dogs get more attention than the visitors who bring them!
John Hughes Music
We have recently had a visit from John Hughes Music. He sang old school music for the residents, who enjoyed singing along and also doing some dancing.
He was very popular and there were lots of residents joining in, they even played our instruments along with his singing. The residents were able to relate to the songs John chose to sing as they remembered the words and enjoyed reminiscing about times gone by too.
We will definitely be having John back to entertain us again soon!
Never to Young for Colouring!
One of the favourite activities at Beeston View, on our upstairs unit, is colouring. We provide adult colouring books and pictures for the residents to work on using coloured pencils, crayons and even paints. We usually leave coloured pencils and pictures out on the unit throughout the day so that they can be accessed whenever a residents wants to partake!
Family Time at Beeston View
Visits from family and friends are very important to the residents as they enjoy quality time with familiar faces. We have relatives who visit their loved ones daily and this is lovely, it can help the residents to retain their memory function.
The residents love to do one to one activities with loved ones, such as jigsaws and looking through their photo albums together. It is lovely to see residents interact with family and friends.
Re-Decorating Time!
We have recently had both Units at Beeston View re-decorated. The whole building is now a lot fresher looking.
The decorators who came were lovely and quite happily posed for pictures too! They have decorated all the corridors in Beeston View and then our Head of Maintenance, Jeff, finished off the decorating by painting the communal areas too.
100th Birthday Celebrations
Peggy received a telegram from the Queen which she was delighted with. We held a Tea Party for Peggy in the afternoon, with balloons, banners, party poppers, birthday cake and tea served in posh vintage cups and saucers. We all sang Happy Birthday to Peggy and she blew the candles out on her cake. We gave Peggy a lovely bouquet of flowers and she had loads of cards from friends and relatives as well as sweets, chocolates and treats.
We had a sing song whilst Jeff (our Head of Maintenance) played the piano, it was strictly old school music for our Peggy.
Peggy had her hair done in the morning so that she looked all posh for her party and she had a brilliant day. We even had all finger foods for tea, as this is Peggy's favourite way to eat.
Congratulations Peggy on reached 100 years old!
