What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"Recently the home care staff helped my husband and myself when he was taken to hospital, just for a few hours. They were so supportive. The carers are just that caring, not only for the residents but also for their families. The nursing staff are always available to help and answer any queros that I have had. My husband seems settled, and importantly, happy. The management isn't always visible."

"My brother and I arrived to go through our mother's care plan. We were welcomed as always by happy and lovely staff. We were offered tea/coffee and cakes as always and advised to always help ourselves. The care plan was very accurate and detailed which was excellent! We all agreed Mum has settled very well. We couldn't be happier that Mum is in great care at Ashford House. Thank you!"

"You have been so good to us, and to our aunt, our stay was not a long period but will remain with us forever. The staff were friendly and very kind. The last hours with our aunt were so memorable because the night staff did all they could to make it easier. We thank you so much."

"My wife has been a resident in Ashford House for just over 3 years with advanced Alzheimer’s. In all the time she has been resident all of the staff, management, nurses, carers and housekeeping could not have given her better service. She is very well looked after with absolute care and consideration. Thank you."

"I am very happy with the care my mum receives at Ashford House. She is very happy and the carers and all staff are brilliant. There is plenty of different entertainment going on; fetes, animals visiting and trips out in the minibus. There's a small shop/shed in the garden where all toiletries, cards etc. are free for residents. Would definitely recommend this place 100%."

"My parents are generally well looked after and the nursing supervision is of a high standard. It does give me peace of mind that my parents are closely monitored and any issues are acted upon. Care staff-there does appear to be a staff shortage at times and I get the impression of a high turnover of care staff."

"On the whole, our experience has been mostly satisfactory. Occasionally I have not been as happy as I ought to have been, on my husband's behalf. I expect a level of care where my husband is treated with dignity and consideration and just on odd times, this hasn't been so. But the staff are always considerate and try to make his time here as happy and comfortable as possible within their time restrictions."

"My mother has been a resident ar Barchester Ashford House Care Home for almost five years. During that time, the care she has enjoyed has been excellent - welfare and medical and the staff and carers have made her feel so welcome and included. The carers are so patient with her and take very good care of her even when she is being uncooperative. The home is kept clean and safe and the meals are varied and nutritious. I am very grateful for the support Ashford House Care Home give the residents and their families (especially during Covid lockdowns) and highly recommend the care home for anyone experiencing the devastating impact of dementia."

"My wife has now been a resident in Barchester Ashford House Care Home for two and a quarter years. Ashford Hous is first-class in every respect. The housekeeping team ensure it is always immaculate. The nursing staff know their residents' needs and responds. The care assistants know me and my wife and are all good and pleasant, as are the activities there. There is no doubt this is a result of excellent management."

"My wife was placed in Ashford House Care Home in January 2021 during Covid-19. Visiting at first was very difficult and I had little opportunity to assess the house or her care. "The care of my nan is top-notch. She is always well cared for and loved and fussed over by the wonderful staff, she is always kept nice and clean, staff are always welcoming to us and very approachable and informative. The cleanliness of the home is amazing, when you walk in it is always fresh smelling, never smells of old people's home, cleaning staff are always seen working as I imagine the cleaning never stops, amazing how they manage to keep it so clean. Hats off to the wonderful head housekeeper and her team and, as always, the head of unit nurse is amazing, we trust her 101% with Nan and, of course, another member of staff is always a breath of fresh air when she is on. Thank you all for the great care you give my nan."

"Bringing mum to Ashford House from another care home was like a breath of fresh air. The home is extremely well managed and every single member of staff is very pleasant, attentive, efficient and available as needed. All the carers are genuinely caring and the activities reputation is well deserved. Food is plentiful, varied and attractive with 3 three-course meals per day with additional sandwiches later in the evening for any residents who need food then. The home is extremely clean and well decorated and smells fresh. In the few weeks that mum has been there, her mobility has improved and I'm now confident that mum is in a place where she is being looked after to the best of their ability."

"We had to transfer dad to Ashford House at the height of the pandemic so it was not easy. The staff ensured we were kept up to date about everything so we were happy dad had settled in well. When were allowed to see him every effort was made to ensure our visits in the garden or Pod went smoothly. Dad seemed happy and content and we were aware that some staff went the extra mile to ensure he was well looked after in a friendly and dignified way."

"Having met the manager and her relatively new team by Zoom on Friday 30th Oct my reaction was one of reassurance that Ashford House is in good hands! I am fortunate in having been able to (Covid secure) externally visit my partner regularly and have from a safe distance been able to 'interact' with various members of staff. This has been of such value to me; being reassured that best practice is being carried out in these challenging times, for the residents, staff and relatives. To say they all go the extra mile is truly an understatement. Words almost seem inadequate to express the sterling job you are all doing but my "thank you" is heartfelt."

"My mother has been a resident at the Ashford Care Centre for over 2 years and the care she has received has been excellent. The staff are so patient and caring with all the residents and always go out of their way to spend time listening and supporting the resident's needs. My mother's condition requires the carers to be patient and supportive and I have been so impressed by their dedication and willingness to go the extra mile to meet all of her medical and welfare needs. I have no hesitation recommending the Ashford House Care Centre to anyone who has relatives with dementia, as the care they provide is second to none. Thank you all for your support, especially during the pandemic and the challenges it has brought."

"My father took residence at Ashford House in April 2019 when his dementia became too bad for him to remain at home. I was very reluctant to have him placed into care, as I felt I was taking away his independence, but the staff at Ashford House encouraged him to join in with the activities and he was given every opportunity to mingle with the other residents (although, like at home, he generally preferred to stay in his room and watch TV!). Although he was always happy, his health deteriorated through cancer and dementia, and he passed away Christmas Eve. Throughout the bad times, the staff were always compassionate and caring and did everything possible to keep him comfortable. They were a massive support to me as I live in France and continually felt helpless. I cannot recommend the care home and staff enough - bright and cheerful building, and truly amazing staff."

"My father has dementia and moved into Ashford House in October 2019 so this was his first Christmas away from his own home. I and my husband joined him Christmas Day, we had a lovely day, the home had a great atmosphere, and several other families did the same. The Christmas dinner was very good, we had starter tomato soup, Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, Christmas pudding to finish. Several family members have visited Dad and have been very impressed with the home, and found the staff very caring and patient. It’s great that you can visit at any time, always greeted with a smile everyone management and staff are very approachable and always willing to give help and support."

"Still more staff needed. However, the staff employed at Ashford House are truly first class. I visit 6 days every week and daily see them go "above and beyond" what is expected of them to make my partner's life comfortable. My frequent interaction with all departments from management (excellent open door policy) nursing, carers, kitchen, housekeeping, activities and admin always has a satisfactory conclusion. I thank them all. The longer my partner is there the more I am convinced that I made the right decision in choosing Ashford House."

"Started visiting many years ago when an elderly man from the church became a resident. I was then asked by the activities co-ordinator to join the C of E and RC folk on Friday mornings - many opportunities to pray, sing and encourage them. A lady in our Alzheimer's group went into a care home in Staines but her husband was upset by her lack of care and I recommended Ashford House and she has been here for many years since. All staff are kind, caring and helpful and provide different activities for them - I would be very happy to recommend it again."

"This is my first experience of a care home. My wife has dementia and is very well cared for at Ashford House. The home is bright and airy and the individual rooms are of good quality. Most important of all is the staff are very caring and look after the residents with a cheerful disposition even when conditions become challenging. It is a comfort to me that my wife of 56 years of marriage is happy in Ashford House."

"Dad has now been in the home for two years. It is not an easy decision placing a loved one in a home but from the first time we entered Ashford House, there was a warm welcoming feeling. The main issue is a shortage of staff, especially the carers. Having said that I cannot fault the staff. I am always greeted with smiling faces and dad generally seems very settled. The nursing staff keep us well informed and are always happy to discuss any issues. The cleaners do an excellent job and the food is of a good standard. The activities team do their best but it is a shame that they don't have the time for one to one chatter. In short, a well-run home that would benefit from more carers."

"My dad has been in Ashford House for about 8/9 months now and I can honestly say, there has been so much improvement in him and his health. He tells me he is happy and well looked after. The staff here do an amazing job and look after Dad and others very well. You can see that residents are happy in their home and are being well cared for. The level of care, cleanliness, laundry, cooking and activities is well run and could only be improved if there were more staff to make that happen. I would recommend this care home to all families who have a family member who has Dementia as the care they supply is much better than what you can do at home, as it is 24 hours and you know your family member is being looked after at the highest level."

"The sole problem is shortage of staff, from care assistants, kitchen staff, cleaners and maintenance. The staff there do the best job they can but, inevitable, often the quality of care is compromised! Again, I emphasise, the staff and management) do an excellent job within the constraints of their staff shortages. So well done Ashford House!"

"At a very difficult time for everyone and Mum not wanting to go into care support from the whole team was excellent. Any problems that did arise were handled carefully with as little trouble to Mum. As for value for money, that's an issue the government should be looking at. It's a very unfair society. Working hard all of your life and then not being supported is a major issue."

"Dad had Alzheimers and had gone from living independently in February 2017 to being unable to feed or dress himself by June 2017. He had been in hosptial from Feb - June and it was traumatic to see him deteriorate. While at Barchester, he has begun to improve, to gain weight and was always calm and happy. This was due to the care and considerate attention he received. It was clear that he was always treated with respect and staff patiently engaged with him and encouraged him to eat. He was always clean and clearly well cared for."

The room dad stayed in was furnished lovely and always warm and clean. The lady who does the events was extremely good with dad and helpful, always a smile on her face. "Our mother was moved to Ashford House from another home. Ashford House was superior on every level - care, environment, facilities and administration. "I visited Ashford House on their most recent open day. As I came through the doors of the first floor I was greeted by laughter music and happiness. All the residents were gathered together in the main lounge all having a wonderful time. What really struck me was in amongst the dancing and laughing residents was the activities staff having a good time too! From an outsider's point of view, I feel they couldn't create the compassion and love they demonstrated for the residents in that moment and it gave me an enormous sense of relief to know people that genuinely care were here supporting someone I loved, with love. I was welcomed immediately to join in the party by a wonderful smiley lady called who followed on to ask if there was anything she could do to help me on my visit and directed me to my loved one's room. As a first impression of the home, it couldn't have been better! I very much look forward to coming to the next party at Ashford House."

"The whole standard of care, cleanliness and dignity was excellent. The staff were always available to help and advise us throughout my fathers stay. I was always kept informed about any health issues that arose day or night. My father was always given respect and empathy throughout his time there. All the staff including cleaners and laundry staff were always extremely cheerful and polite. I congratulate all the staff at Ashford House and I would never hesitate in recommending this wonderful home. It made my whole family's lives so much easier, I was so confident about his whole stay."
