What our families say

Dad has been a resident for 5 weeks now and the change is fantastic, he now doesn’t need insulin at night his skin is so soft and he doesn’t scratch himself raw he has now started interacting with other residents which is wonderful to see, he is a lot more responsive and the care is second to none, he is enjoying his time and is stimulated which is such a change. Fantastic from start to finish

My mum and dad recently stayed for respite at Ashchurch view. From arrival we were greeted with open friendliness. The home is beautiful and the residents are treated with care and compassion. Mum and Dad seemed really happy when we went to pick them up and reacted very positively to their stay. Thankyou to all the staff for looking after them so well. We will definately be using the home in the future.

I had a walkaround of the care home for a family member, and I was truly impressed. The gentleman who showed me around was absolutely amazing—friendly, informative, and clearly passionate about the care provided. He took the time to explain all the activities and services available and gave a real insight into the warm, supportive environment they’ve created for the residents. It was reassuring to see how much they genuinely care and go above and beyond to make it feel like home. Thank you for such a welcoming experience!

Ashchurch Nursing Home has been a real home from home for my mother and family in her final 3 months. The care and compassion given to mum was second to none, nothing was ever too much trouble. The chef even cooked whatever she felt like eating to try and get her to eat.
Dilip, Anila and staff were amazing and always made shore that she kept her dignity, and she was comfortable and out of pain at all times. Brendan made mums room look like her own by putting photos and pictures up and having a chat with mum. Fiona and Pat, you not only took care of mum but the family as well. Thank you to the whole team at Ashchurch you made the last few months the best they could be in the circumstances.

Visited Ashchurch View this morning for their open day, and received such a warm welcome from all the staff, who were so helpful. They gave me a full tour of their beautiful home, which is light, airy and fresh. I will certainly be certainly be giving serious consideration to Ashchurch View providing a home and care to my relative.

The entrance to the Care Home is always so inviting, the flowers, displays and seasonal themes are well thought out showing a lot of care and devotion.
Every time I have visited the staff are very welcoming and friendly, making sure all needs are met. Residences are well attended to and there is a lovely happy environment in the home. With the surrounding fields and gardens to look onto is makes a pleasant stay or visit very worth while.

I recently had the opportunity to visit Barchester Care Home in Ashchurch, and I was incredibly impressed by the level of care and dedication shown by the staff. From the moment I arrived, there was a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and it was clear that the team genuinely cares about the well-being and happiness of the residents.
The home itself is clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, with a lovely, homely feel. The staff are not only professional but also kind and patient, always taking the time to engage with residents and make them feel valued. It was heartwarming to see the effort put into organizing activities and creating a positive, stimulating environment for everyone.
I would highly recommend Barchester Ashchurch to anyone looking for a safe, supportive, and caring place for their loved ones. It’s clear that the residents are treated with respect and compassion, and that makes all the difference.

I have been visiting Ashchurch View for over 5 years with my Pets as Therapy dog. That says a lot about the home and the quality of care I've personally seen over that time.
We always receive a very warm welcome from staff and residents alike.
The rooms are lovely and spacious and clean and well maintained.
There is always an excellent display of flowers and plants as you approach the home. You can tell that a lot of work and pride goes into the gardens.
Ashchurch View are very fortunate to have Jenna as their activities coordinator. The range of events and outings she has introduced is brilliant. She is very caring and tries to make a difference to every resident.
I've also been told by a number of the residents that the food is delicious too.

"Mum moved in after discharge from hospital. She had had two strokes and two falls and been very poorly. It was sad to realise she could no longer live independently at home. Ashchurch View was recommended to me, and I am so glad it was! Despite not wanting to go into residential care my mum had settled in within a few days and now, five weeks later she is really happy and calls it her forever home. The venue is spotlessly clean and the meals a very high standard. But most importantly is the quality of the care and nursing staff. My mum loves every one of the team that take care of her. They are kind, friendly, warm and compassionate. Mum says she feels so safe and secure and doesn't need to worry about anything as it's all done for her. There are activities and clubs twice a day so already mum has made new friends. As for me, well I have peace of mind knowing mum is being supported and cared for by people she likes and in a place that is beautiful, warm and safe."

"The staff on York ward have been so kind and attentive during the last few weeks of my father-in-law's life. They treated him with dignity and made him comfortable and chatted with him every time they came into the room, even when he was unconscious. All staff were very helpful with updates when we weren't able to visit. A lovely, friendly home."

"I came for respite care straight from the hospital where I had surgery. I had to have a low-fibre diet because of the aftermath of the operation. This was excellently provided for me. After being in a ward of six, I found the private room with my own shower room very restful, day and night. I was able to sleep better than I did in the hospital. I realised the home was short-staffed (with an acting manager) as meals in the dining room took time (This did not worry me as I had to eat slowly). The staff were very helpful, I even had a cup of tea early in the morning, unlike the hospital there was no pressure on me to get up at a set time. A criticism is that the light in the shower room was dim and there was no main shaving point there."

"It was my mums 94th birthday on April 8th and we haven’t been able to celebrate with her for a while. We asked the home if we could have a party for her and 20 members of her family. We were given a private room and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. They provided us with a fabulous buffet at a reasonable cost. Tea and coffee were provided on our arrival. Mum thoroughly enjoyed her day celebrating with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mum is very happy in the home the staff are very caring and professional. On a day to day basis mum seems quite content and happy and well looked after by all the great staff."

"I spent 4 weeks in respite care at Ashchurch View home and I can honestly say that I was made very welcome and always treated with respect and dignity. All of the staff were extremely kind and caring and always prepared to help if it was needed. I would not hesitate to recommend Ashchurch View to anyone who needed care or respite. The accommodation was excellent and the food adequate, if somewhat late at times."

The staff are all helpful, cheerful and caring and whilst both were a little uncertain at the beginning, they soon settled and enjoyed taking part in the activities. Dietary requirements were also accommodated."

"The care given to residents is excellent and all efforts are made to ensure, wherever possible, residents are dressed, got up and taken to the dining room and lounge. The food is first-class, with plenty of choice. The layout is easy and safe with exits blocked but still access to outside space which is so important. Staff are all friendly and on first-name terms with visitors and residents. The care does not come cheap but it is well above average."

"My wife has been in residence for about two weeks, and although it took a while for her to settle in she now appears reasonably content. The welcome she received, with an attractive card, and a friendly relationship offered to me as well, was much appreciated, particularly after a difficult period in hospital. The staff always appears to be cheerful and willing to help as much as possible, though I think she feels that calls for help sometimes seem to take rather a long time to materialize. The room is very pleasant and the appearance of cats at the window is always welcome, largely due to a life spent in their company. I realise that activities are minimal as she is bedridden, but she appreciates the company, and if any staff have spare time for a chat. That would always go down well."

"If the time comes when I need care in a nursing home, this is where I would like to be. Some would say that the only reason is that the food is good but every aspect of the care is excellent. Every member of staff gave my sister-in-law the very best of attention and treated her with dignity when she died."

"Warm welcoming and friendly positive vibes! Tiny suggestions: - Food is good - but could be a bit warmer - Staff are lovely but resident wishes they could come quicker when button is pressed. - If possible please encourage father in law to interact with activities/spend time in the lounge. Thank you for looking after my father in law."

"Barchester Ashchurch View had been my dad's first choice when he was a resident in York suite and his experience over two years, when support was needed, was exemplary and this became my first choice when my husband needed to have care for dementia. The staff are so caring, patient, cheerful and encouraging. They respect people's dignity and show great empathy for their feelings. There are plenty of activities on offer to stimulate interests and skills and the food is so tasty with plenty of choice. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming and homely and all the nostalgic memory objects and pictures are reassuring and comforting. There are plenty of areas to visit in perfect safety within the unit too, giving space and privacy."

"Mum's welcome was good for her to start eight weeks respite. All went well, Mum was placed next to the nurses station due to a lot of falls. Mum hasn't complained about any of the staff. Very attentive and ready for a joke and a laugh. The eight weeks have taken Mum time to relax and get to know the staff and the same for them. We, as a family, hope Mum can stay here and we know she is being well looked after."

A (sizeable) group of motorbike enthusiasts and club members gathered outside Barchester Ashchurch View and allowed the residents to view/chat and even sit on a beautiful bike! "My mum stayed at Barchester Ashchurch View twice recently following discharge from hospital and before going home. Thank you to all the team who cared for her, responding to requests quickly. It was really helpful to have nursing care available and such a willing, friendly group of carers. She appreciated being able to meet friends in the coffee area where they could help themselves to a drink and even cake! The catering was good. Great that there is also an attractive courtyard to use on sunny days. Thank you everyone!"

"Mum was welcomed for respite care at Barchester Ashchurch View at short notice on a Saturday evening following a hospital stay. After just a few days, Mum felt she had put down roots and praised the staff for their kindness. Mum's room looked out onto a pretty, quiet courtyard and was in the nursing wing. Mum enjoyed the comings and goings of the nursing wing. We found the home well-led, all the staff we met were caring and appeared aware of their roles and responsibilities. We only saw one meal that Mum ate - portion was good, menu was balanced. The cakes in the cafe were always fresh and tasty!"
