Activities at Ashby House Care Home

Activities at Ashby House

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to enrich peoples lives here at Ashby House. We stimulate people both physically and mentally by organising fun filled, group and individual activities to promote the well-being of those we support.

There are regular outings in our very own minibus and visits from PAT dog therapists, church services, musicians, dancers, and local school children. We also have our very own 'Good Life' gardening club, where we grow our own produce, which we then use in our cooking club. We also host weekly bingo sessions which are proving very popular and are growing in numbers.

Charlotte Arbon

Activities Coordinator

I joined Ashby House in April 2022, I thoroughly enjoy my role as Activities coordinator and love coming to work and having chats with the residents and families.

I listen to the residents and learn about their interest and support them to be involved with activities.  When I am not at work not at work I love spending time with my family playing board games.

We would love to have new ideas, if you have a skill you would like to share or would like to be involved with activities please email us at ashbyhouse.activities@barchester.com

Life at Ashby House Care Home

Historic Royal Palaces

Our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.  Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.

Book Club Corner

Across our services, our residents had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.

The virtual book club experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Musical Entertainment

We enjoy regular live entertainment here at Ashby House with a variety of performers in each month. Our residents love a good sing-a-long and always join in with smiles on their faces.

Music is so therapeutic for everyone and we all love singing to our old favourite songs, making us feel so good.

,

Pancake Day

We celebrated Pancake Day here this month at Ashby House. Our residents enjoyed some delicious freshly made pancake’s from our Head Chef. They were a super sensory experience and went down a treat with all.

This day also took us all back to making our own pancakes for our children, or remembering our parents making some for us bringing back lovely memories for our residents to share together.

,

Parachute Exercise

We hold regular various exercise sessions here at Ashby House. These sessions are not only good for our residents wellbeing but meet their physical, cognitive and sensory needs too.

One of the firm favourites is with our parachute, this improves our upper body strength and is so much fun too!

,

Flower Arranging for international flower day!

Flower arranging is a lovely creative, sensory and therapeutic activity, and always enjoyed all here at Ashby House.

Today we had some beautifully scented flowers to work with and residents really enjoyed putting together their own displays. It's lovely having fresh flower arrangements around the home, with the beautiful scent they bring!
