What our families say

Mum stayed at Kingsland House for two weeks in the summer so that our family could have a holiday together. She needed a nursing home due to having insulin. We found all members of staff kind, knowledgeable and couldn't do enough in settling mum in as this was the first time she had been away from us. She joined in the daily activities that were varied and due to her enjoying this I have been able to find different day centres that we will be starting soon. The food was plentiful, varied and nutritious and my auntie was able to have lunch with her sister a couple of times. I thoroughly recommend Kingsland House and have already booked mum in again for over New Year.

I wanted to thank everyone at Kingsland House Care Home for the wonderful welcome they have given Mum and myself in the short time she has been here. From the delicious food served at the VE Day Party, to the attention given by the management, administrative staff, carers, nurses, activities co-ordinators and not forgetting the maintenance team - every effort has been made to make this a smooth transition from Mum’s own home. They have even allowed Mum to bring her piano into Kingsland, which is very thoughtful and will give Mum a lot of pleasure.

A Wonderful Experience at Kingsland House
I wanted to share my heartfelt appreciation for Kingsland House. From the moment you step through the doors, there's a genuine warmth and welcoming atmosphere that truly sets it apart.
The staff at Kingsland House are simply exceptional. Their dedication and kindness shine through in every interaction, making residents and visitors alike feel truly valued and cared for. It's clear they go above and beyond to ensure everyone's comfort and well-being.
The facilities are well-maintained, creating a comfortable and pleasant environment, and it's clear that the team works hard to create a homely feel.
Kingsland House isn't just a place to stay; it's a community where residents thrive. The positive spirit and attentive care make it a truly special place.

Having visited most of the care homes in the area Kingsland really stood out with it's warm and welcoming staff. My mum loves being in the home and enjoys the activities put on by the home.
She has made many new friends since being there.
It's a big decision to put a parent into a care home and I'm so glad I found Kingsland.
Since my mum moved in they have got a new manager, who has definitely bought a fun energy into the home, after talking to her you can really tell she cares about all of her residents. I would recommend Kingsland to anyone going through the hard decision of placing a loved one into a care home.
Thank you to Ana and all the wonderful team at Kingsland

"After recommendation Kingsland in Shoreham and visiting the home on two occasions prior to mum moving in, we were as a family, greeted, respected and above all, we just knew and that positive feeling mum would be cared for. After moving mum from a previous provider on 7th April, we are thrilled to see our mum eating well, joining in activities being cared for by the most amazing nurses and above all to see her thrive."

"In general, the home is good, in the past the standard fluctuated very much, it has much improved. There still is a lack of consistency in the level of care. But in general, the staff are kind and my mother is taken care of. I think more could be done for my relative but all things seem to take time. Most staff are good. I feel my mother is safe here. Telephoning is an issue and friends and family give up ringing at the time, not enough staff. There is a cheery atmosphere which is good."

"Generally, staff go above and beyond to care for residents and make it feel like home. The activity coordinators are brilliant. Sometimes the care assistants lack attention to detail. My dad's new glasses were put in the wash by mistake and broke. Perhaps the pockets should be checked before removing them from the linen basket."

"I visit this home regularly. The management team are always friendly. I visited on an afternoon when there was a singer there and the residents loved it. The manager came down and danced with some of them which was a lovely sight. The staff are always happy and interact with the residents. The home is clean and inviting. I would recommend Kingsland from my experience as a visitor."

Entertainment really y good and engaging for the residents, especially during the Jubilee celebration. Food always looks and smells delicious. "Surroundings are important to my Mother so the high standard of decor and the welcoming reception area with tea, coffee and cakes available was perfect for her. The range of activities on offer is very good and there is usually something that the resident, whatever their ability, can participate in. The staff are hard-working, caring and friendly, and although there has been a turnover in part due to Covid-19, I understand that the company has recruited. Going forward we have been told that each resident will be allocated a keyworker which will improve communication with relatives. Understandably, as with any care home, there have been a few issues along the way but the manager always has a listening ear and things are usually sorted quickly. Visiting during the pandemic has been enabled and welcomed wherever possible. I'm sure the residents are looking forward to spending time in the colourful gardens as the weather improves."

"Kingsland House has a warm, caring feeling, right across the home. Staff are friendly, smile all the time and build warm relationships with residents. They are keen to get to know each person as an individual, including likes/dislikes, and personal interests. The level of care is very good, and careful records are kept. Nursing staff and senior carers make time to talk to relatives and listen to any concerns. The single-story building eases any worries about the use of stairs. The home provides a light and bright environment, always well kept. Meals and snacks are generous and freshly made. There is a busy range of activities across the week, well planned to appeal to a variety of interests."

"We moved my dad here from another home, due to the fact that it is all on one floor, the corridors are wide and bright, the rooms look out onto gardens, the dining room has tables laid with white table cloths, knives and forks, the sitting rooms are pleasant, airy, well furnished, the bedrooms are nicely decorated and overall it is very reminiscent of a modern hotel. A few months after Dad moved in, he is putting on weight, seems healthy (he has serious dementia), likes his surroundings, enjoys the view of the flower bed outside his window, is living in a lovely home that does not leave me feeling guilty when I say goodbye. There is a bird table outside his window, but he is usually more interested in the pigeons and seagulls that sit on the chimney (looking for warmth we think, now that winter is approaching). Overall, I am very pleased that my Mum found this home for him as the staff are kind and considerate, enjoy his personality and treat him with respect."

"We were very apprehensive about Dad living in a care home. We visited many care/nursing homes leading up to Dad's move to Kingsland and none of the ones we had visited gave us any peace of mind about dad being looked after, cared for and made to feel part of a family. Kingsland had an immediately pleasing entrance and the staff were instantly warm and receptive. They listened to what we needed to know about how they could cater for dad's needs and told how they would meet our expectations. The home is very comfortable and furnished to a high standard. It does not look like an 'institution' but like a home. A very important element for us was that dad would be stimulated and involved in daily tasks or routines that improved his enjoyment of life whilst at Kingsland. The range of activities is very good and we are looking forward to times when greater outdoor activities will be possible. The food is also of a high standard and freshly cooked."

"After losing my father in February 2021, and my mum sharing the same care home, I felt I needed to move her closer to where I live. My sister and I visited Kingsland House and felt immediately comfortable with the most warming of atmospheres. We knew immediately that this was the right decision for our mum. All the staff are like family towards mum and us when visiting, nothing is too much trouble. The manager has a well-established team who take amazing care of our mum and for this we are eternally grateful. I would highly recommend Kingsland House too anyone that is looking for a wonderful care home for their loved ones."

"My mum has been in Barchester Kingsland House Care Home now for over three years. The staff and care she gets cannot be faulted. Since the pandemic hit, they have continued with the highest level of professionalism and throughout last this year, have always put the needs of the residents first. I applaud their hard work and as we come out of lockdown, with all residents who can be vaccinated now having had their second jab, the future is just a little brighter for all staff and residents."

"My father has been in the care of Barchester Kingsland House Care Home for the last four years. Recently, his Alzheimer's became worse and it was agreed that he be moved to the secure dementia unit. The manager has made this transition as comfortable as possible. She moved him to a newly decorated and carpeted room. The care my father has received has always been caring and friendly. The manager is a professional and approachable manager. A special shout out for the senior carer on the Adur Unit who has a special bond with Dad and always brings a smile to his face."

"The care home was under new management when Dad moved in seven months ago. I have to say that a majority of staff are all helpful, kind and considerate. Dad seems to have settled more now, and the activities and personal-centred approach from the activities coordinator couldn't be better. Management, admin and nurses, especially, are very approachable. I feel the cleaning could be improved, but apart from that, I am pleased with Dad's care at present."

"My father entered Barchester Kingsland House Care Home in November 2023 following a stroke the previous August and a period in NHS hospitals. He was unable to walk and regretted losing his independence. Kingsland made him welcome and his room was light and sunny, although 'tight' for manoeuvring a hoist and wheelchair. We appreciated Kingsland redecorating part of the room and supplying an electric air mattress. Initially, Dad complained of delays between calling for assistance and it arriving but he slept and hallucinated a great deal and it was difficult to separate his imaginings from reality. Dad had limited control of his limbs and I believe, minor cuts and bruises resulting from this were dealt with properly by the staff. Both food and activities were of a good standard but as Dad declined, he could participate less and less in both. The admin staff, nurses and care assistants were all friendly and communicative, gave very supportive help to Dad and gave good feedback about Dad and how his care could be improved. Overall, my sister and I were very pleased with the care Dad received at Kingsland and would like to thank the staff involved. Dad died on 24th April 2024."

"My mum has been living at Kingsland House since September 2022. In that time there have been a lot of changes in managers and staff, which is why it's not a full five-star review. The new manager and all the staff there work hard to provide a positive environment. I asked my mum today what score she wanted to give so this is based on her feedback too. Positives - new manager is genuinely changing things so that residents are both happy and asked about what works for them. Any questions I ask are answered. The staff are friendly and helpful and my mum has settled in well. Feedback - it can feel difficult to find people sometimes to help with things, but I think this is true of any care home. We are happy and we can see that Mum is happy and has a good relationship with a lot of the staff there. It's also a friendly environment to visit and there are rooms there you can book for family gatherings."

"While I soon discovered that the staff were all efficient, kind and helpful, I found many puzzling deficiencies found only by chance that there are residents who are not deficient in mental attributes. Mixing with them would have made a very different experience. I would not choose to come again. On the plus side: Afternoon entertainment, beautiful gardens, availability of drinks and snacks etc. (If I could find where they were). Availability of reading material, picture books. On the downside: 1. Asked for a doctor when I developed a hacking cough. No medical found though I was told that one was 'coming' later, resorted to trickery to get a doctor. 2: Loss of clothing from the room, was told it had been sent to the laundry, never seen again. 3: Clean towel provided, disappeared unused ('gone to the laundry'). 4: Toilet not flushing adequately. 5: Liquid soap of poor quality and hard to access. 6: Bed hard-edged and difficult to rise from. 7: Left for home still with a hacking cough."
