Stroke services improve; charity happy

Stroke care has improved in the UK but there still needs to be more support in place for those who survive the devastating brain attack, according to the National Audit Office (NAO).

Nikki Hill, deputy director of communications at the Stroke Association, responded to the latest NAO comments, noting that on the whole the charity it pleased to see improvements in stroke services in the last five years.

She continued: "However, the report highlights areas of remaining serious concern.

"The welcome improvements in acute care must be matched by post-hospital support so that stroke survivors get the level of care and support they need irrespective of where they live."

Ms Hill added that local authorities and NHS organisations alike must show how they aim to sustain services and added that all political parties must also show similar inclinations through policies in the near future.

This is the only way that stroke survivors can lead both full and independent lives, she concluded.
