People with MND in Middlesbrough given huge support

People living with motor neurone disease (MND) in Middlesbrough are set to benefit from a grant that the MND Association has awarded to South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The money, which is being given to help establish an MND Care Centre, aims to address the need to help people battle the condition which robs those who have it of the ability to walk, talk and feed themselves.

According to the MND Association, those with the disease often need up to 18 different healthcare professionals and this funding from the MND Association will help provide people with a "multi-disciplinary approach" to care, all under one roof.

Dr Janine Evans, a neurologist and care centre director who will head the MND Care Centre, said: "I speak on behalf of the whole MND team when I say how delighted we are that the ongoing work in the region directed towards MND care has been recognised in such a way to gain care centre status."

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust encompasses the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough and the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton, serving people from the towns and villages in the former county of Cleveland as well as other conurbations in North Yorkshire.
