Nuneaton hospital to mark World Stroke Day

A hospital in Nuneaton is looking to mark World Stroke Day tomorrow (October 29th) by raising awareness of the condition.

Advice on the latest stroke information and treatments will be on offer from specialists at George Eliot Hospital, the Coventry Telegraph reports.

Visitors to the hospital will also get free blood pressure checks, as well as the opportunity to hear about the new Transient Ischemic Attack clinic, which offers rapid treatment to people who have had a mini-stoke.

Co-ordinator Maggie Hall told the publication that one of the best ways of improving outcomes for patients is to engage them with stroke advice and educate them on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

"This is why this type of awareness event is so important; while we are aiming for day to be fun, it will carry a very serious message," she explained.

One person in the UK has a stroke every five minutes, according to research from the Stroke Association.
