Our garden was filled with music, laughter, dancing and beautiful memories as residents and staff came together for a truly special afternoon. We enjoyed a stunning Union Jack cake, traditional refreshments including ginger beer, and, of course, plenty of singing along.
A huge thank you to the fantastic Paulo, who performed many beloved wartime classics and well-known songs that had everyone singing, smiling and even dancing together.
It was such a joyful afternoon full of community spirit, nostalgia and celebration — moments like these create memories that stay with us forever.
Day trip
We visited one of our favourite places, Quarr Abbey, where we fed the pigs with carrots and enjoyed a relaxing walk – everyone had a great time.
With another group of residents, we also visited the seafront in East Cowes, where we had a wonderful surprise: one of our residents bumped into a former neighbour by the beach! It was such a joyful and heartwarming reunion.

Tour De Barchester hits Highview House
For the fifth year running, staff from Barchester Healthcare’s care homes and hospitals took on a gruelling cycling challenge, this time from Thurso to Edinburgh. Their aim was to raise money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which supports older people and other adults living with a disability or mental health conditions by helping them to connect or re-connect with others in their local communities. Set up in 2000, this year marks the Foundation’s 26th year supporting individuals, community groups and small charities all across the country.
Over four days, from May 19th to 22nd, a team of Barchester staff planned to cover over 200 miles from Thurso, through Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee to Edinburgh and finally Glasgow, stopping at 16 care homes across Barchester’s Scotland & North East division to meet well-wishers, have a well-earned break and refuel before continuing on their way.
On Tuesday, 19th of May at just after 4.30pm, the tour stopped at Highview House in Inverness, where they were welcomed by staff and residents, as well as special guests Margo Fraser, Willie Doig and the Fraser School of Highland Dancing, who offered a Highland-themed afternoon of refreshments, live entertainment and music. The festivities were completed with a presentation made to Paul Cranston, recognising ten years of service at the home. Celebrants were also delighted to welcome Jeff Zyncinski, General Manager of Partnerships for Wellbeing, and Inverness-based recipient of a Barchester’s Charitable Foundation grant.
Elsbeth Russell, General Manager at Highview House said: “It’s a remarkable effort to cycle all this distance. Although they are covering some of the most scenic parts of the Highlands and beyond, it was lovely for everyone in the home to be able to give them some refreshments and a bit of a pit stop before they carried on their way. Our staff, residents and special guests loved helping them fundraise for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation - which does such brilliant work helping to connect vulnerable people with their local communities.”
