Spring Gardening

With the arrival of the warmer weather our residents have been delighted to begin preparing the garden for the months ahead. After a long winter, the recent spell of sunshine has provided the perfect opportunity to get outside, enjoy the fresh air and start our spring gardening.

Residents have been busy tidying flower beds, clearing away winter debris, and getting the soil ready for new plants and flowers. Gardening is always a much-loved activity and it has been wonderful to see everyone working together and enjoying the simple pleasure of being outdoors again. The garden is an important space for relaxation, socialising, and connecting with nature, so preparing it for the summer is something everyone looks forward to each year.

Spending time outside in the sunshine has also brought many smiles, with residents sharing stories, laughter, and memories while working side by side. These moments not only help keep the garden looking beautiful but also provide a great sense of achievement and wellbeing.

As spring continues, we look forward to planting colourful flowers and watching our garden slowly come to life. With a little care and plenty of sunshine, it will soon be a vibrant and welcoming space for everyone to enjoy throughout the summer.

Afternoon of Flowers

Our lovely residents enjoyed a beautiful afternoon of flower arranging
The room was filled with creativity, colour, and plenty of smiles as everyone designed their own stunning arrangements. It’s always so special to see our community come together to share laughter, stories, and a little artistic flair.
A wonderful way to brighten the day  and our home!

Happy Birthday Mary

The resident birthdays are coming thick and fast at Bayleaf and yesterday it was our Resident Ambassador, Mary, who celebrated her big day.

There was a steady flow of visitors throughout the day for Mary and her room is now full of the most beautiful flowers.

As a home we made sure that Mary had a very special mealtime and presented her with presents and a homemade Birthday Cake, courtesy of head chef, Stephane.

Happy Birthday Mary, we hope you had the most amazing day.

Wonderful World Book Day activities

What a fabulous way to end the week of celebrating World Book Day!
Boorley Park Primary spent time reading stories with our residents. It was wonderful to see the joy that sharing books can bring, with plenty of smiles, laughter and lovely conversations along the way.
It was especially lovely to see the friendships that the Boorley students have been building with our residents since their visit before Christmas continue to grow. Moments like these truly show how powerful stories can be in bringing generations together.

International Women's Day celebrations

On Friday6th March we opened our home to the local community to recognise and celebrate International Women’s Day, hosting an afternoon of friendship and recognising the fabulous women in business locally who make a difference every day
The event brought together a wonderful group of professionals, independent business owners and community organisations sharing a glass of fizz and celebrating their achievements, experience and contributions within the community. Attendees shared personal stories, professional journeys, and reflections on the progress they have made
Future plans made together, new connections and a truly lovely afternoon with laughter included too

Marmite the Cat Visit

Marmite was brought in by one of our wonderful team members, who wanted to share the joy that their beloved pet brings every day. We all had the opportunity to meet Marmite up close, offer a few treats, and enjoy some relaxing moments stroking and chatting about our own memories of pets.

Highlighting the Power of Non-Verbal Connection

While dementia may take away words, it can never diminish the person within. The homes activity coordinator, Becky, recently shared a moving tribute to resident Karen and her husband, Pete, highlighting the profound "silent" communication that defines their daily bond.

Karen who is now non-verbal, continues to connect with staff and her husband through facial expressions, warmth, and a lingering "spark" of humorous personality. The story which was recently shared on social media, has resonated deeply with the local community, with family members and friends describing the couple as an inspiration.

Pete, who visits Karen daily has integrated with the home over the past number of years, and who himself is living with a serious health condition, has been praised by other resident’s families for his tireless support to other residents, with local Diane Lewis who shared, "Without his help, we would be at a loss." Pete is often seen around the home, helping here and there and also pottering about in the homes garden, ready to connect with everyone who visits or resides at the home, along with bringing heart felt warmth to the homes staff.

To support local families navigating similar journeys, Hampton Grove invites the Peterborough community to a special event: "Talking Positively to Someone Living with Dementia." Taking place at the end of the Month, this session will offer practical advice, emotional support, and insights into maintaining meaningful connections when verbal communication becomes difficult.

A Day in Scotland

The residents had a wonderful time celebrating Burns Afternoon with a special Day in Scotland.

We began with a much-anticipated Scottish lunch, enjoying neeps and tatties prepared by our fantastic catering team, with plenty of Scottish music playing in the background to set the mood.

After lunch, we spent time learning more about Burns Night and Scottish culture through activity booklets and a talk from our lovely care assistant, Liz. As Liz was born in Scotland, she also shared her own personal story, which made the afternoon even more meaningful.

We were then delighted to welcome the wonderful Steve Sutton, who treated us to a live performance full of Scottish tunes and positive energy, bringing everyone together around the table.

It was a truly enjoyable day, especially for residents with Scottish roots and heritage, and a brilliant opportunity for others to discover traditions that are so cherished by many.

Big Garden Bird Talk

We had a fantastic time joining Rob Magee from Gwent Wildlife Trust for an engaging virtual talk all about birds, held in the lead-up to the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch.

Residents explored a range of species found in our gardens and across the UK, learning more about their behaviour and habitats. We then put our knowledge to the test with a bird-themed quiz and Oomph activity books, before settling down to watch David Attenborough’s The Life of Birds, all while enjoying some delicious sweet refreshments.

It was a fascinating session, and best of all, we now feel more confident about spotting and identifying birds in our local area.
