A beautiful wedding celebration
One of our lovely residents, June, recently enjoyed a very special day as she attended her granddaughter’s wedding blessing at St Helen & St Giles Church, surrounded by family and friends.
The touching ceremony was filled with love, happiness and heartfelt moments as the happy couple received their wedding blessing. June was delighted to witness such an important milestone in her granddaughter’s life and to share in the joy of the occasion.
Following the service, the celebrations continued back at Derham House, where family and friends gathered for an after party. It was wonderful to see generations of June’s family coming together to celebrate, sharing laughter and precious memories.
We were delighted to help make this special day possible and to welcome June’s family into our home for the celebrations. It was a truly memorable occasion that brought so much happiness to June and to everyone involved.
Odds and sods crafting
The focus of today's activity was to use everything from our crafting cupboard, from felt and lolly sticks to tissue paper and cotton wool.
We decided to create a summery landscape and were inspired by the views of the Chiltern Hills which we can see from the bottom of our garden.
Art in any form is great for improving mental well-being, not to mention it being enjoyable!
Bee Day
We enjoyed a lovely Bee Day celebration inspired by Jean Bishop, the Bee Lady. The day included a fun and informative activity where we learned about bees, their importance, and the positive impact Jean Bishop had on the local community through her charity work. Everyone had the opportunity to sample a selection of honey-based treats along with different fruits to pair them with. Andrew particularly enjoyed the honey and other honey-flavoured treats, commenting that they tasted "beautiful."
Gary found the day especially amusing as staff and participants dressed up as bees, which created lots of laughter and smiles throughout the day. Simon was pleased to have a lovely photograph taken and enjoyed talking about the Bee Lady and what she represented.
Although Andy preferred not to join the main group activity, he was happy to celebrate Bee Day from his room. We spent time chatting with him about the Bee Lady, her fundraising work, and why she is remembered so fondly. He also enjoyed having a photo taken to mark the occasion.
Overall, Bee Day was a wonderful experience that brought everyone together. It was an enjoyable opportunity to learn something new, share tasty treats, create happy memories, and increase awareness of an inspiring local figure and the important role bees play in the world around us.
Greek Day
Our Greek-themed day was a fantastic success and enjoyed by everyone who took part. The day was organised to encourage social interaction, stimulate memories, explore different cultures, and provide a fun and engaging experience for everyone involved.
The day was filled with fun, laughter, and learning as residents joined in with a Greek quiz, dressed up in themed outfits, and sampled a variety of delicious Greek nibbles and tasters. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Greek culture, traditions, and cuisine while spending quality time together. Laura and Dad really embraced the spirit of the day. Laura especially loved dressing up in her beautiful dress and said the whole experience was "just brilliant."
Martin and Amanda also thoroughly enjoyed the event. Having visited Greece themselves, they said the day brought back many happy memories, particularly when tasting some of the traditional foods. It was a fun-filled and very enjoyable day, full of conversation, memories, laughter, and new experiences. The event encouraged residents to share their experiences, reminisce about past travels, and connect with one another through a shared activity. Everyone had a wonderful time, and the Greek theme was a great way to bring people together.

Gentlemen's Day Out
What better way to enjoy the warm weather than great company, a refreshing glass of beer, and football on the big screen! Our gentlemen residents had a fantastic afternoon out with the Activity Team, sharing laughs, stories, and cheering on the match together.
At Lynde House, we believe every day should be filled with friendship, fun, and memorable moments. Creating meaningful experiences for our residents is at the heart of everything we do.
Remembering Their Valour, Fidelity, and Sacrifice: The 82nd Anniversary of the Allied Landing in Normandy
The 6th June 2026, marks the 82nd anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, France. With each passing year, it becomes increasingly crucial to remember and commemorate the heroic efforts of D-Day veterans who fought to liberate Europe from Nazi Germany, so their stories are not forgotten.
Codenamed “Operation Overlord”, D-Day is still considered to this day, one of the largest military assaults in human history and the most significant victory of the Allies during WW2. And for those who have wondered what the ‘D’ in D-Day stands for ‘Day’, which was often used as a codename for important military operations. The use of the name ‘D-Day’ indicated the first day of this particular Allied WW2 operation to liberate France from the control of Nazi Germany.
At Tyspane Care Home, many of our residents, families, friends and staff have affiliations with the armed forces, which includes; Naval Service, British Army, and Royal Air Force (RAF). Therefore, it is even more crucial that these significant dates in history are remembered.
Tyspane Care Home held several activities and events to honour the D-Day Landings. These were: raising the flag, reading articles from a newspaper published on 6th June 1940, with residents and guests from the armed forces, afternoon musical concerts by Tamsin Ball and Land Army Annie.
Thank you to everyone who made this event so special.
Thank you to our Carers.
During Carers Week, we would like to take a moment to recognise and thank all the incredible carers who make such a difference every day.
BBQ and Pimms in the garden
Residents enjoyed a wonderful afternoon in the garden at Waterside Court, coming together for a relaxed BBQ and refreshing glasses of Pimms.
The delicious BBQ was a highlight of the day, and we'd like to extend a special thank you to our chef, John, for preparing such fantastic food and helping to make the event such a success. His hard work, dedication, and excellent cooking were greatly appreciated by everyone.
The event provided a lovely opportunity for residents to spend time with friends and family, enjoy good food, and share plenty of laughter and conversation. It was wonderful to see everyone coming together and making special memories.
Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the afternoon so enjoyable. We look forward to many more happy gatherings at Waterside Court!
