Pub Games & Burgers

Wednesday evening residents enjoyed a social get together playing traditional pub games whilst enjoying burger & chips and for some a small tipple of wine or lager.

We started with a game of shut the box which residents enjoyed and then some had a friendly game of darts. Get togethers like this enhance residents' well-being and bring companionship and fun everyone. Taking part in social events helps create a warm, supportive atmosphere where everyone feels included and valued, which can have a positive effect on both mental and emotional health.

Meet the Author - How to be Human

This week we had a lovely visit from Louise Cavell Knighton who read from her book How to Be Human, residents listened intently as she gave an insight into her journey of writing the book and asked several questions regarding the content.

After the reading Louise explained  about the other areas that she was covering and how she was doing podcasts on different subjects to help peoples well-being and we are hoping that she will come and visit again and discuss some of these areas with us.

It is nice as a home to support local authors and we are still reading our novel by Lorna Marlow.

Having a book club within the home setting can bring both social and mental benefits to residents, giving them a chance to get together, share opinions, and enjoy friendly conversations.

Sitting on the dock of the Bay

Regular outings are just one aspect of our life enrichment program and all the trips we take are at the request of the residents. Our monthly activities calendar boasts a range of outings and entertainment.

Our Residents enjoyed a trip to the Docks and could be heard singing an Ottis Reading classic. Fresh air smiles and laughter all around for a slightly unusual but interesting trip out.

Our Activities Team take regular feedback from the Residents at Alice Grange and organise trips accordingly.

Fun and Games

At Alice Grange we support and encourage our residents to continue doing the things they love whilst also making new friends. We hold regular activities that help or residents use cognitive and motor skills to provide holistic benefits that enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of residents.

Chair-based exercises offer a safe and effective way for our residents to exercise to improve strength, flexibility, and circulation. These exercises are based on shoulder rolls, seated marching, and ankle rotations. Our Residents coach Darren always makes these exercises fun for all who join in.

A river cruise to remember

We had a truly stunning day yesterday as we took the residents out on a river cruise along the Great River Ouse.

It was an early start for our residents but it was definitely worth it. The sun was shining and spirits were high as we arrived. Once aboard the residents took their place on the boat and enjoyed the amazing views and the wildlife. There were lots of stories told about past river trips and even more laughter amongst the residents and staff.

We were then treated to a Fish and Chip lunch aboard the boat before we got back onto the minibus to head home full of memories from our special day.

Annie!

A big thank you to The Academy at Shotton Hall pupils for treating us to the musical Annie, you were all exceptional. We look forward to seeing you perform again soon. Our residents enjoyed singing and dancing along.
