Activities at Sutton Valence Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Jacinta Wilson
The job description of Activities Coordinator fitted me perfectly and brought me out of retirement; I did miss the social aspect of working life... Enriching resident’s lives through art & crafts coupled with a vibrant caring nature is me to at T. I have a passion to give our residents access to their own self-esteem and confidence. Re-gain, explore or enhance their quality of Winter Life. Share the tools to make each moment the best it can be and if, it's, not then let's explore why? My team buddy laughs with me when I recall or mention Golden/Platinum moments I've been blessed with. I witness them every day. Finding a way to give purpose to a day is a mission of mine and I do my very best for our resident family to gain that.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Care Awards
We'd like to congratulate our South Divisional winner, Lorraine!
Staff and residents at Sutton valence are celebrating our South Divisional winner, Lorraine Wickens.
Over 5,250 incredibly high-standard nominations were received this year.
Lorraine joined winners from across the UK at a special awards event to celebrate their outstanding achievements, which we watched live from the home.
Huge congratulations from all of us!

Declan at the Rugby
Happiness is free but priceless…
One of ‘THE’ most honourable parts of our role as lifestyle and enrichment Activity Co-coordinators, is being able to organise and carry through the simplest of wishes.
“Amazing, amazing, amazing." Were Declan’s words summing up ‘his’ wish to watch a Rugby match.
Cranbrook Rugby club were one hundred percent incredible! Our special thanks go to Mandy and Lindsay for making us feel exceptionally welcome.

Talk on Bees
Our home hosted an insightful talk by Michelle Ernoult, ‘We can’t all be bee keepers but we can help Bees’ which was in collaboration with, and organised by Sutton Valence Gardening Association.
The talk, as you may have guessed by the title, informed us about ways of supporting all bees, not just the honey bee.
We can all play a part! Just a few bee friendly plants in your garden will go a long way to help the bees essential survival.
Tea, coffee, cake and time to mingle completed the afternoon.

Knitting and Crochet Group
Today saw the beginning of our new Knitting & Crochet gather together. This is a new skill for some and others are already ardent at the craft.
Lynn picked up the crochet chain very quickly but did learn that it’s not good to make the chain too tight as this will inhibit creating the first row.
The beauty of the gathering is that it helps residents connect with others, learn a new skill, keep muscles and hands mobile, and one that is very overlooked, is that it's a great craft to pay attention to the present moment (mindfulness). You get totally absorbed, helping all other thoughts disappear from your mind.
We would truly welcome for your participation, bring along your project, learn a new skill with us, have a chat or simply a cuppa and cake.

Celebrating Salma
Salma has been a volunteer with the Lifestyle and Enrichment Co-ordinators for over a year now and proving to be such an asset.
Salma's self-reassurance and confidence within our home has grown from strength to strength.
Salma pushed herself outside of her comfort zone by explaining to Robert (our Senior General Manager) how she had collated necessary information to assist the Team with future planning of activities for our resident family.
Volunteers are always welcomed. Be wonderful to have a few more Buddy Volunteers too.

Armchair Yoga
Kerry enhanced our Yoga session by giving our residents a new experience using Spikey Balls.
Spikey Balls work on the myofascial system to reduce muscle tension, improve blood flow, increases body awareness making them perfect for knots and tightness.
Joy expressed that she could feel the benefit from using the spikey ball after Kerry demonstrated several ways to alleviate the pain in her hand and fingers.
Kerry visits us the 1st Tuesday of every month and did you know you are so welcome to join us.
