Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Tina Holmes
Lead Activities Co-ordinator
Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.
I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.
I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.
Celebrating life at Meadowbeck Care Home
Cheese & Prosecco
Our residents from around the home gathered together with friends in the local community who joined us for our Cheese and Prosecco afternoon. It was a wonderful time-sharing a selection of delicious cheeses paired with a glass of prosecco or two.
A special thanks to Clare for the fantastic live saxophone entertainment, starting off playing a great mix of gentle 70s and 80s from well-known films to get everyone singing along with their toes tapping, then stepping up the tempo with some rock ‘n’ roll tunes from The Rolling Stones, Credence Clearwater Revival and Bob Segar that kept the atmosphere lively and fun.
A wonderful afternoon with smiles all around!

Therapy time with Ted
We had a visit from Hilary and Ted, our therapy dog, who brightened the day of our residents and staff with his gentle presence and wagging tail.
During his visits, Ted offers comfort, companionship, and a reason to smile for everyone he meets. His calm and friendly nature always makes him very popular.
Residents love to have him sit beside them as he says hello giving them a soft nuzzle with his nose, always happy for a little fuss and the occasional treat.
Musical moments
Our Musical Moments session was a ray of sunshine for our residents with Maggie, who played a variety of instruments including the saxophone and the ukulele. The session explored classic songs all about the weather – from sunshine to rain, bringing rainbows.
Residents joined in with great enthusiasm, using fun props like tambourines and shakers to add their own rhythm to the music. The room was filled with laughter, singing, and a wonderful sense of connection as nostalgic tunes sparked memories and conversations.
A fabulous time had by all!
Intergenerational fun with Rainbows & Brownies!
Residents were delighted to have Rainbows and Brownies from 1st York St Margarets come to visit.
The evening was spent having lots of intergenerational fun with lots of singing and playing games together, which involved a balloon exercise and a creative session making colourful bunting for our residents to display in the home.
Everyone enjoyed chatting with the girls, and it was marvellous to hear the laughter fill the room.
Who can resist freshly baked cheese scones?
Our ladies from our Baking Club came up with the idea to make cheese scones, one of their favourite savoury delights.
Whilst some residents got busy showing off their skills, others enjoyed watching the bakers at work taking in a few tips. Afterwards, the ladies invited Pete, our Hospitality Manager, to join them afterwards to sample the scones fresh out of the oven baked to a golden, gooey perfection.
The aroma alone was irresistible!
Ladies Day!
We marked the annual Royal Ascot Ladies Day races in style as we dressed to impress, and put on our favourite hats.
Our residents enjoyed the event from the comfort of the home. Some of our residents gathered on the terrace sitting in the shade, and had great conversations about Royal Ascot fashion and celebrated the occasion with a glass or two of Pimms and refreshing fruits. Some of our residents enjoyed listening to the races in the garden or watching on TV. We had a great time debating who was going to win.
We all had great fun.
Say Cheese!
Staff and residents had a fantastic time celebrating National Cheese Day this week, surely one of the best days of the year!
The home's life enrichment and hospitality team got together to source some local cheeses, as well as some more exotic ones. The residents had great fun taste-testing a variety of cheeses along with relishes, chutneys, fresh fruits, plus a range of breads, biscuits and crackers, accompanied by a glass of prosecco. There was a lot of debate over which flavour combination was best. It was very hard to decide on a winner!
Minibus outing to Dean's Garden Centre
Today we had a lovely trip out in our mini bus to Deans garden centre. It was a beautiful day with the sun shining, taking in the scenic views along the way with the lambs in the fields.
Our residents enjoy choosing what they want for lunch from the menu, accompanied by a pot of tea and speciality coffees.
We had a lovely time walking around admiring all the flowers and plants, getting ideas for our raised beds and reminiscing on what flowers they had in their gardens in the past.
VE Day 80th anniversary celebrations!
Today we marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day in style by throwing a party to remember with our home specially decorated for the occasion with flags and bunting, and entertainment with the wonderful Nikki singing wartime songs.
Everyone enjoyed sweet and savoury treats with delicious-themed cakes made by our kitchen Assistant Denise. Showing off her baking skills, some of our residents reminisced about their memories of VE Day and watched clips of the celebrations that took place outside Buckingham Palace and all across London.
We had a fabulous day, enjoyed by all. Flags were flying, hands were clapping and feet tapping with everyone singing along.
