Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Tina Holmes

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.

I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.

I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Valentine's Day Celebrations!

The mood was set for Valentine's Day, here at Meadowbeck.

We decorated the home with hearts, and we hosted a special Valentine's-themed evening with delicious cheeses, prosecco and lots of sweet treats on offer made by our Head Chef Raouf.

To make the evening more special, we welcomed back the wonderful Clare, who entertained us with her saxophone, playing a selection of love songs past and present, with Nina Simone and Frank Sinatra amongst the favourites that residents enjoyed singing along to.

Love was certainly in the air; we had a wonderful evening.

Read Aloud Day!

Today we celebrated Read aloud Day. To celebrate the day, our residents were joined by sixth form students from Archbishops Holgate school, where they shared some of their amazing stories as they brought along favourite books.

Our residents enjoyed Storytime, listening to the students read various books from fireside friendship poems and a selection of children’s favourite classics that brought back special memories of bedtime story time with children and grandchildren.

We had a wonderful afternoon!

Dominoes Club!

Some of our residents filled the afternoon with laughter and a little friendly competition, playing a few rounds of dominoes.

Our dominoes club is always very popular with both residents and their friends visiting, a great way for friendships to be formed.

A fond farewell to retiring nurse

After almost 35 years of continuous service much-loved Nurse, Janet has decided to retire. Staff and residents at the home sent Janet off in style with cards and flowers to thank her for many years of dedication. Everyone at the home has very fond memories of working with Janet, everyone is delighted of the news that Janet has taken on a new role at the home in joining our activities team.

During her time at Meadowbeck, Janet worked as a Registered Nurse on both days and nights and was an NVQ Assessor for a number of years at the home, before going externally.

Janet said: “Meadowbeck Care Home is like a family to me and I am so excited to be joining the activities team, where I get to make lots more fun memories with our residents.”

Mamma Mia for National Pizza Day!

What could be better on a cold February day? Staff and residents had a fantastic time celebrating National Pizza Day on February 9th hosting a pizza party, a brilliant excuse to sample lots of delicious, warming pizza!

Overseen by head chef Raouf, staff and residents experimented with many different types of toppings and flavour combinations - from the exotic, to the classic and everything in between! Some people controversially added pineapple, others preferred spicier options, and some stuck to a good old Margherita.  Many people tried a folded Calzone pizza for the first time or branched out with a creamy base instead of tomato. Everyone ate their fill and declared National Pizza Day a triumph!
