Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Fancy Dress Friday

Maple Leaf Lodge decided to spread joy and laughter around our home as we celebrated ‘Fancy Dress Friday’

Residents, their relatives and staff all got involved with the spirit of this unique themed day and dressed up as a pizza, a lobster, Snow White, a clown and so much more. It’s been a full day of laughing and smiling. The gents got the most laughs with their wig wearing antics.

Senior General Manager at the Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home, said: “This has been a huge amount of fun and the home has been filled with laughter. So much so that we can’t wait to make Fancy Dress Friday a regular event.”

A resident at the home, Jean said: “It’s been so funny watching everyone dress ridiculously” we have definitely enjoyed the day and can’t wait for the next dress up day.

Maple Leaves

Our residents on Memory Lane have been busy creating some beautiful artwork today using leaves and chalk.

Our residents enjoyed the autumn air and had stroll around our gardens to pick different sized leaves from the trees for us to use in our art class. We headed back in the home and began.

Using the chalk we created vibrant outlines of the different leaves we had.

Our residents had so much fun with this and it developed creativity and stimulated imagination. Resident Pat said how beautiful everyone’s work was.

Day Out in the Park

Some of our lovely ladies from Memory Lane have enjoyed an afternoon stroll around one of our favourite places, Wyndham Park. Residents have enjoyed looking at the different flowers and meeting some wonderful people.

Before returning back to the home for a cup of tea we made a stop to Harold’s Traditional sweet shop to get some sweets. Residents got a mixture of fudge and hard boiled sweets.

We have had a lovely afternoon which has been enjoyed by all.

Barchester Supporting Grantham Care Fair

The Maple Leaf Lodge and Newton House Care Homes, came together and joined the local healthcare community at the inaugural Grantham Care Fair, held at the Grantham Guildhall Arts Centre.

The event brought together local businesses and health care professionals including hosts Farrow and Friends, NHS Lincolnshire, The Lincolnshire Nutritionist, Lincs Well-being, Age UK, Belvoir Home Care, Right at Home, Kings Court Care Home and Grantham College amongst others to highlight and promote the importance of health and well-being in the community and to highlight support for those in need.

One participant said “it is wonderful to see the variety of different organisations come together in unison, showing their support not only for one another but for those who are the most vulnerable in our communities, it’s heart-warming to know there is so much support in Grantham and the county at large.”

Pet therapy with Dylan

To mark the end of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, staff and residents at Barchester’s Maple Leaf Care Home in Grantham were treated to a visit from a beautiful therapy pet.  Animals have a wonderful calming effect and the residents love to stroke them, talk to them and play with them.

The home was visited by Therapy Dog Dylan who caused a great deal of excitement.

All of the residents enjoyed the visit, they petted and fed Dylan who seemed to appreciate meeting his new friends.

Minibus outing to Wyndham Park

Some of our lovely ladies from our Memory Lane community have been down to Wyndham park this morning for a beautiful walk around.

Residents enjoyed a walk around the sensory garden looking at the variety of different plants. Residents Barbara’s favourite was the lavender. The ladies have definitely enjoyed the sunshine and meeting families and dog walkers.

At resident Ruth’s request we finished the morning off with a delicious ice cream which we all enjoyed!
