Activities at Lakeside Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Showroom Open Day

Lakeside Manor celebrated a spectacular open day on 6th July 2019. Our open day was made special thanks to Jackson CI; the local car specialists for Jersey and the rest of the Channel Islands. Bentleys, R8s and BMWs were all showcased throughout the day. To add to the day our village chef Lorenzo provided some fresh cakes and cupcakes for all visitors to enjoy. Residents and staff alike enjoyed the day and the presence of Jacksons CI made it even more enjoyable.

Cupcake Day

A Cupcake Day event took place in June this year, at Lakeside Manor, St. Peter, Jersey. The home managed to raise a sufficient amount of money to help the Alzheimer's Society in its fight with the disease.  A large part of the sum raised went to opening special dementia cafes, to be held at Lakeside Manor. Residents, staff and local communities enjoyed baking sweet treats and decorating cupcakes. Lakeside Manor Home is determined to ensure the best possible care is provided to all living with Dementia and looks our for the Dementia Cafes coming soon.

Liberation Day

In Guernsey and Jersey, Liberation Day is celebrated each year on 9th May to mark the end of the occupation by Nazi Germany during World War II. It is celebrated as Guernsey and Jersey's national day.

To celebrate this historic event, staff, residents and families all joined together at Lakeside Manor for celebrations. Traditional bean crock was served, and everyone sang and danced together. A good time was had by all, and we're all looking forward to next year’s festivities.

National Gardening Week

Everyone had lots of fun celebrating National Gardening Week here at Lakeside Manor, which ran from 27th April to 5th May, and is the nation’s biggest celebration of gardening.

Here at Lakeside Manor, we took the opportunity to celebrate this great week by encouraging everyone to share the love and enjoyment of growing produce in our extensive grounds.

Families were in full swing, removing the weeds to decorate our donated plants, bulbs and seeds for our sensory garden.

Residents spent time in their own garden and were able to touch and smell their favourite plants, which provoked others to have a look.

As part of National Gardening Week, staff at Lakeside Manor have also established a greenhouse with raised planters so that residents can grow their own vegetables.

Everyone is looking forward to harvesting and eating their own home-grown food!

Yes Please to Cheese (and Wine!)

We hosted our first cheese and wine evening and it proved to be a huge recipe for success.

Residents and their guests were introduced to a whole new world of wine aromas and the best cheeses to complement a special evening. Residents tried their hand at identifying some of the more obscure cheeses and were surprised by how difficult it was to distinguish between the different wines.

As the practical session continued, both residents and guests alike learned ways to taste wines in a professional manner.

Everyone who took part thoroughly enjoyed the evening and is looking forward to the next event.

We are now 10-60-06 accredited!

We are now 10-60-06 accredited!

Lakeside Manor is delighted to have achieved accreditation for a new standard of dementia care that has been developed by dementia care specialists at Barchester.

The 10-60-06 dementia programme was developed and trialled by Barchester's dementia team, replacing the previous dementia care programme, in order to ensure that the care services provided in Barchester’s Memory Lane communities are the best in the sector.

We have implemented significant improvements to the personalised dementia care services we offer, and the way that all staff are trained, to better understand what it means to be living with dementia.

The accreditation was completed as part of an unannounced visit on 3rd and 4th December 2018, and was undertaken by Leon Smith, Dementia Care Specialist.
