Activities at Chestnut Gardens Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Chestnut Gardens VIP opening Day

Chestnut Gardens was officially opened in style by Councillor Jason Perry, Executive Mayor Of Croydon. Barchester's CEO, Dr Peter Calveley, and General Manager Krystyna Bosko hosted the event and invited guests to view our beautiful new care home which is now welcoming its first residents.

National Buy a Book Day!

Today is "National buy a book day" (National Buy a Book Day was created in 2012 to educate people to the importance of books to our culture and civilisation as a whole). To that end, Chestnut Gardens and the Book Club members have decided to try "Lord of the Rings!" Join us every month on the second Tuesday at 11.00am.

Waitrose, Sanderstead

Chestnut Gardens had a smashing day at Waitrose in Sanderstead today meeting many locals and chatting about their lives and those of their loved ones and how our wonderful home and team may help. Joan and Sue pictured here are lace makers and really excited about coming to share their skills with our friends and residents! Thank you ladies!

St Marks Memory Cafe

We were delighted to be invited to St Mark's Memory Cafe this week. St Marks, Purley offer a regular cafe on a Friday afternoon from 2pm to 4pm for people living with dementia and their carers. The "Place to be!" cafe. This time we met and mingled with all and brought our famous Chestnut Gardens cup cakes! A quiz, game of bingo, musical interlude and other activities made for a great session!

"Schools Out"

The summer holidays can be a stressful and financially draining time of year, however there is no reason why these weeks can't be jam packed with fun and happy times with your little ones. Here's to taking a break from bedtime battles, school traffic and stepping into endless snacks, sunscreen and fun! Chestnut Gardens have met many retired people who are worried about the safety of their dear grandchildren and so please find some hints and tips by the "British Swim School" from us to help!

Purley Firefighters!

There's no better way to spend an afternoon than with local emergency services. Today I was privileged to be invited to meet the fire fighters at Purley Fire Station. It's great to be able to understand their work and challenges, particularly in this extreme heat and thank them for all they do with our very own Chestnut Gardens' Cup Cakes and an invite to pop by to our care home at anytime on their breaks and fill up with a hot drink in their own Barchester Flasks and more cake if required! To know we will be in their care is wonderful! Thank you team, we all owe you so much.
