Always very clean and very welcoming helpful staff. Beautifully decorated in a very homely style. I attend the home on a regular monthly basis with colleagues from U3A to attend a class. Lovely place.

My Aunt had a 2 week respite stay at Chestnut Gardens in May / June 2025. The care home is about 2 years old so all nice and new / fresh. However what we were delighted to see was the care and attitude of the staff, it was excellent and on point. My Aunt was well cared for and had activities each day to keep her engaged with life and the people around her. We have had experience of care homes in recent years and this is the best we have dealt with. Happy to recommend.

My Mum had her 4th fall in August 24, she has refused to even attempt respite in the past but while in Hospital she decided to go.

I searched for respite homes while Mum was in Hospital and came across Chestnut Gardens in Purley, I spoke with Mark the homes services advisor and was invited to visit the care home , Mark was very informative putting my mind at ease , he showed me available rooms and I was confident my Mum would be happy ( as was i) here for respite.

Gayan the Manager contacted me to arrange and discuss Mum while she was in Hospital , she spoke to my Mum, Gayan did an assessment, explaining the process again although I was very stressed Mark and Gayan put me at ease as this was all knew to me and Mum.

Mark and I liased on a regular basis because I wasn't sure when Mum would be discharged in-between I was allowed to bring her luggage, toiletries, wheelchair etc to her designated room ready for her when she's discharged , after 5 weeks being in Hospital Mum was finally discharged but unfortunately the Hospital discharged my Mum and sent her straight to the care home without my knowledge in October, the staff couldn't have been more helpful .

Fast forward , Mum decided to stay and has been here for 6 months ! Maxine the receptionist , Andy the head of maintenance, who kindly took me to mums house to collect her chair and bring for her room all the staff ie senior carers, care assistants too many to name ,Nelli the Hostess shout out to Rick the events co ordinator and the chef are amazing .

Chestnut Gardens is a beautiful well maintained clean care home , it's over a year old and knew my Mum would be happy here for respite but the fact she wants to stay is saying something . The chef makes a cake for all which i aim for as soon as walk in !

There have been a few hiccups ( like everywhere) Gayan and her team dealt with all issues promptly .

Chestnut Gardens feels like a 5* Hotel, my mum has a private physio but there are free exercises , she attends a few classes ie flower arranging , she may be in the cinema room with a glass of vino , hairdressers is on the premises ,when my family visit they ask if there's a spare room for them !

I could say more but overall I am very happy but more importantly Mum is happy , Gayan and her team are amazing .

A BBQ was held yesterday (23rd May) for residents and families all I can say is Wow wow wow !
The weather was on our side ,chef and his team were fantastic as was the food , the carers were amazing , I was there earlier and watched the staff go into action to organise this fabulous event , I offered to help but they insisted they were OK, bless them .
The BBQ felt like a party , the food ,atmosphere,entertainment, watching residents and families dancing was magical, Mum enjoyed a pimms as did I!
Congratulations to all who work so hard at Chestnut Gardens , Gayan has a wonderful team .

"We can't speak highly enough of all the staff at Chestnut Gardens, from housekeeping through to management. My mum moved in back in November and has taken a while to adjust to a new way of life and missing her own home. The staff have been so kind and helpful and spending time with her and encouraging her to join in the activities. Would recommend this Care Home to everyone."

"Our mum came to the care home, this is the first for her, she arrived right in the middle of the Christmas party, having just come straight from the hospital, she was made to feel very welcome and took part and enjoyed the food. Mum's settlement to the home wasn't straightforward as Mum, as staff concerned about our health, was sent to hospital on Christmas Eve, she came home on Boxing Day. Couple of days later, she was sent back to the hospital so she spent New Year in hospital, this has been very upsetting for everybody but the staff had been great and don't mind being bombarded with loads of questions. We are an outgoing family so we have joined in with the quizzes etc., grandchildren have been made to be welcome and also helped put the Christmas decorations away, the other residents have fallen in love with our 9-year-old grandson, said he's funny and entertaining. Mum has only been in the home three weeks, says room is lovely, the staff are very caring and kind, food is good too."

"When Mum needed to go into a care home, we visited many. Barchester Chestnut Gardens Care Home is absolutely beautiful inside - the care and attention to detail are just amazing. From the hairdressers to the cinema, to all the activities arranged daily, we could see that this was a place that really cared for its residents and improving their quality of life. The general manager is just wonderful. I was very anxious about Mum moving to a residential home, not only did she understand this but was also able to set my mind at rest about the quality of care Mum would receive and, most importantly to me, how we would all work together to look after her. The transition was so easy from hospital to the home. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. I can honestly say that during her stay, my mum had the most wonderful care from all of the staff. "On entering Barchester Chestnut Gardens Care Home, my initial thoughts were this feels like a five-star hotel and I was greeted by smiling, welcoming staff. I felt very comfortable talking to the staff and I thought the facilities had a lovely ambience. It is a good-sized home giving a spacious and luxurious feel. When I took my mother for one week respite, the staff came to her at once to introduce themselves and they did with such a kind and warm manner that I instantly felt that she would be in good hands. The staff went above and beyond to make sure Mum was happy and for that, I am truly grateful and would highly recommend Chestnut Gardens."

"What a wonderful place, the care my mother received in her year here was absolutely first class, as well as the care and support they gave me. There was always lots to do, lots of laughter, the food is wonderful, the rooms spacious and the staff - well they are just simply the best. Thank you all so much."

I came in to meet some friends and was shown around the home, as well as experiencing their excellent food they have on offer. (We had a very extensive and freshly made buffet but I'm positive the main meals are equally excellent too).

Whilst the rooms, food, and attention to our visit were all great, I was especially impressed with the obvious care that is made to the mental health and complete experience of their residents. I've visited a few homes over the years and I've rarely seen this much effort made on the nurturing, empathy, and proactive experiences designed for the residents to keep them as mentally "fit" and able as possible.

I had the pleasure of attending a meeting at the Chestnut Gardens care home in Purley recently. I was overwhelmed with the facilities available to their residents. The food was amazing and the staff were a delight to deal with. I encourage anyone looking for an exceptional care home for themselves or a loved one to visit to see what is on offer.

I could not feel more welcome and I noticed a very positive change in her whilst she was there. Everyone was incredibly kind and compassionate and my friend would not hesitate to move his mother permanently when she is ready."

"I stayed for two weeks for respite care after a hip replacement. The care was the best I could hope for. The staff were amazing, took care of every need I had and went above and beyond expectations. Arranged extra equipment and help. The food was an exception. The choice of food and menu was equivalent to having a meal at a Michelin restaurant. Five stars plus experience. Would recommend this place to whoever wants to know more and I am willing to attend and explain more. I was fortunate to have found myself in this place and if needed will be back.
