Oak Grange Care Home has a special feel, its all about the lovely, caring, thoughtful staff that create it. From day one when I was desperately looking for somewhere for mum (Pauline) who was in hospital and couldn't go home again, the support I received was brilliant. I found that time very upsetting and difficult.
Everyone works hard to make the residents feel loved and respected and to join in the many activities or not, mum has actually put weight on with all the good food provided.
Importantly I feel very welcome and supported every time I visit (as well as my good friends)and most importantly mum feels at home and loves the staff.
I cannot recommend Oak Grange highly enough and thank everyone who works so hard and thoughtfully.

I attended Oak Grange on New Year's Eve to provide a pamper session for some of the residents and found it to be a welcoming home with some fantastic care staff. Nicola is new to the activities coordinator role and has a fantastic timetable worked out with all sorts of things for the residents to do - later that day they were having a cocktail masterclass and some live entertainment.
The dining room was quite a hive of activity on our visit and the communal areas were all beautifully decorated for Christmas. The bistro in the reception area also looked a nice place for family members to get a coffee.

"My dad always looks well and clean. Staff are always friendly. If staff have concerns they will always let me know or contact me. Dad has been in lots of homes and I can honestly say this is the best."

"A close friend who is like a family member booked in for a respite stay due to being unwell and struggling to cope with daily life. He was made welcome on arrival and was supported in settling into a spacious room. The decor is lovely and clean, just like a home-from-home with a 5* hotel treatment. All the staff in the Jubilee community have been outstanding and have given 100% to ensure all his individual needs are catered for. Nothing has been too much trouble to do and they have gone above and beyond to promote/support him to be able to return back to his own home when he is ready."

"The home is satisfactory overall, some aspects better than others. The majority of staff are friendly and caring. One incident of poor attitude/conduct towards my friend has been reported. Staffing levels appear to be inadequate - the staff appear to be run off their feet. My friend's privacy is constantly invaded by other residents despite many complaints no meaningful action has been taken to address this. This is a major cause of unhappiness and distress to my friend. It is very positive that rooms are ensuite. Rooms are kept clean, but my friend's room is in need of some basic maintenance to attend to scuffed paintwork and furniture and stained carpet. Whilst the menu looks appealing, meals when served are disappointing in terms of the quality of ingredients, lack of choice (too much pasta, jacket potato, baked beans) and often reach the room barely warm. The evening meals that I have observed are particularly poor. My friend often returns meals uneaten."

"Mum stayed for respite during May and as a family, we were very impressed with the overall care and support provided. The activities were brilliant and we can see a big difference in Mum's communication. The flexible approach to visiting was also very welcome, we were always made to feel very welcome. Thank you very much for all the support provided, this is the best care home we have ever come across and would highly recommend it for respite care."

"I came for one week of respite care and found it satisfactory. My room was very nice, a good size and a large window. The staff were excellent, if you ask, you got it. The bathroom was well fitted out but was not cleaned every day nor were the towels and sheets changed during the week (I did not expect it done every day!). On the whole, the food was acceptable, very nice puddings, poor soup and always a choice. A lovely warm feeling of caring, always a smile and a happy place to be."

"My visits to Oak Grange are met by very caring and committed staff. One of the care workers is the most caring and considerate young woman who in my view goes beyond her role to ensure she has time to listen, engage and value my mum as a person, not a sufferer of dementia, she sees Mum, not dementia. All the staff are helpful and respectful."

"Since first going into Oak Grange Care Home, everybody who works there has shown so much respect towards me. I was helped to settle in and have enjoyed my time here. "My husband went to Barchester Oak Grange Care Home in Chester for respite care. It is a beautiful care home, well appointed rooms, lounge and dining areas and a lovely garden giving outside space. The standard of care given by the staff is excellent and in a friendly manner. all his medications were administered correctly. He is a fussy eater and the staff ensured he had plenty of his favourite foods. My husband had quite a few visitors during his stay and they were always made to feel welcome. I can definitely recommend Barchester Oak Grange Care Home."

"My mother stayed at Oak Grange for about 10 weeks in early 2023. She had been in hospital before this for 6 weeks with a fractured hip. When she first went to Oak Grange she had very little mobility and needed assistance to get up from bed into a chair. The manager at Oak Grange liaised with community physiotherapy and was able to ensure that my mother was treated as the priority case that she required. As a result, she was able to become mobile much more quicker than if her therapy was further delayed. The manager sat in on all consultations with the doctor and physiotherapists and was aware of all medical and therapy developments. The staff at Oak Grange are very pleasant and helpful. The rooms and facilities are good, with lovely gardens. The overall atmosphere is a calm, welcoming and caring home. Oak Grange is very well run with good food, laundry services etc."

"I visit my friend at least 3 times a week. I think this care home is excellent, it's well managed, very clean and security is good, visitor book is laid on the desk and the Bistro is good too. Visitors cannot get into the home sometimes for example on busy weekends but there is a buzzer and staff will always let you in. There is no smell like some homes have. The dining room is lovely and visitors are always welcome to sit with the resident and you can get a cup of coffee."

"Oak Grange has provided an exceptional level of care for my father during a few recent respite stays. Not only is Dad well looked after but the care staff (from carers through to cleaners) go the extra mile to engage and socialise with him. This makes his stays very pleasant, he is both content and happy, and he has enjoyed a much richer experience than he gets at home. His stay shortly before Christmas was also very memorable, many of the Oak Grange staff made extra efforts to say hello to him when he is back in for respite stays. This provides a very happy and personal environment for him. The food and catering are really exceptional. All lounge and bathing facilities are first-class quality being recently renovated, so it really is a welcoming home from home and Dad is looked after worry-free on my part."

"My auntie and uncle moved to Oak Grange in July 2022. Oak Grange does not feel like a care home when you walk in. It is beautifully furnished with lots of social areas for visitors and residents to sit in. It feels more like a hotel. My uncle was downstairs in the medical unit, he had MS and was very ill. He was looked after with such care by the staff, we always knew he was in good hands. He sadly passed away in December but the staff were fantastically supportive in dealing with his end-of-life care and helping us as a family. My auntie is upstairs in the dementia unit and is so happy there. There are so many activities and although she is getting worse with her dementia she is thriving compared to being at home or in the hospital. We cannot thank the staff enough and would definitely recommend the home."

"Oak Grange Care Home is a lovely care home that has amazing staff and facilities. The home is run very professionally from the front desk to all carers and management. My dad seems very happy here. One thing I would say is that more staff is needed on Olypic Ward."

"In the relatively short time that my dad has lived at Oak Grange, he has really settled and he's happy. As a family, we have no concerns about my dad's care and well-being. My experience today has been that my dad is happy and he's in good spirits. The staff are on hand and approachable. I always find the staff friendly. We made a very good choice in Oak Grange for Dad."

"My sister moved into residential care at Oak Grange last summer as it had become impossible for her to have sufficient care at home after a number of hospital admissions. She found it very difficult and challenging at first to accept that she could no longer live at home. But gradually, thanks to the really wonderful encouragement from the lovely community care manager and Oak Grange care team, my sister is settling in. I don't live locally but notice progress every time I visit. She is now even accepting help to get out of bed and eat meals in the dining room as well as starting to chat with other residents. It is very reassuring to know that she is being so well looked after. I can ring at any time to find out how she is and always have lovely support from the very dedicated care team. Nothing is too much trouble and everyone is prepared to go the extra mile. It is always a pleasure to visit the home as there is such a nice happy atmosphere. I can highly recommend Oak Grange."

"My mum has been at Oak Grange for several years now. She has severe dementia and has additional care issues requiring significant attention. The care provided by Oak Grange staff has been wonderful, and I couldn't ask for Mum to be in better hands. Mum is still smiling and singing even though it has been many years since she could last communicate with me."

"I cannot commend more highly the care, respect and attention that my mother has received since she became a resident. Unfortunately in September 2020, my mum had a fall at home resulting in hospital care, from there she was not able to go home and I needed to find a care home to take her during the initial Covid lockdown. Oak Grange dealt with everything from assessment by hospital staff to transfer immediately in the late evening - it was such a weight off my shoulders. We could not visit due to regulations, but Oak Grange constantly kept us informed. They have continued to do this throughout her stay, both from Barchester and from staff within the care home. Knowing my mum, she will not have been the easiest resident, especially at the beginning, but despite her increasing dementia, she has always received the highest level of care and compassion, not forgetting the weekly entertainment. It is not the cheapest of homes, but you do get what you pay for."

"My brother has settled in very well since moving here. He feels safe and well cared for by the staff who always treat him with a friendly smile, respond to his needs and respect his choices. A sense of humour is around and a relaxed atmosphere abounds. His medical needs are assessed and responded to appropriately if changes need to be made and always explained to him as appropriate. "Our expereince of the care home was extremely positive. Mum was encouraged to move about, her personal hygiene was well attended to and she ate and drank more regularly. She looked better than she had since her fall, and her grandson said "she looked like a woman with dignity". Whilst she was encouraged to participate socially, her wishes were respected."

"Mum has been at Oak Grange for nearly two years now. My sister and I are extremely pleased with her care and the lovely atmosphere. All the staff from reception, carers and support staff are all friendly, efficient and very caring, so visiting feels like a pleasure. Mum is happy and content. Everyone seems to know her name and the care staff have come to understand her needs, her likes and dislikes and her personality very well. We also feel as relatives very well supported and can relax knowing she is such a caring and safe place."

"Leaving your loved one in a care home can be a very emotional experience however this is made so much easier in a home of this standard. The facilities are wonderful and attention to detail is considered in every aspect of the home but, by far, the best thing is the care the residents are shown by all members of staff. How lucky we are to have found this place."

"Barchester Oak Grange is a lovely care home. Well designed with most residential rooms having French windows, it feels more like a hotel. The staff from the home administrator to the maintenance man were wonderful. My mother's regular carers were excellent, kind and compassionate and I could not have wished for better. I knew I would be kept fully informed of my mother's health which gave me peace of mind. But.. when they had their days off she had care that was not always good and so I cannot say overall everything was excellent but as I visited regularly I was able to ensure needs were quickly met. Although in other ways the home excelled themselves. For example when after a few hours in hospital we took my mother back at 2 am she was greeted with smiles, a hug and whispered what about a cup of tea and hot buttered toast. Home from home! I would highly recommend Oak Grange and at the end they treated my mother with dignity and me with compassion."

"Sadly my mother passed away on 06.06.2024 at Oak Grange, after living there since October 2022. Throughout her time at Oak Grange Mum was always treated with dignity, respect, care and most of all love. Following a fall in the summer of 2023 and a subsequent hip replacement, the team in the Jubilee community enabled Mum to regain her mobility within weeks and until very recently she still navigated around where she called home and enjoyed the company of her fellow residents and the wonderful activities provided. Sadly two weeks ago, Mum's body finally gave in after a long fight with Cancer and Alzheimer's and her health rapidly declined. In Mum's final days, the team went above and beyond to support both Mum and I. Her final hours were peaceful, pain-free and dignified. To the Community Manager, the love and care you showed my mum, even once she had passed, will be something I will never forget. You are a very special lady and a credit to yourself and Oak Grange."

"Our friend arrived last year from a care home in a different country. He had declined significantly and he needed to be near family. He was wheelchair-bound, dangerously thin, and mostly nonresponsive. A year later we found him walking, responsive, and strong! I am impressed that all of the staff know him and genuinely care: managers, nurses, carers, kitchen staff, laundry, and maintenance. Despite his special diet, they ensure he receives a variety of tasty food presented beautifully. They tune their TV to their favourite stations or music channels. If family leaves him snacks, they make sure he gets them though he doesn't have the dexterity to feed himself or the verbal skills to request. He is always dressed and clean. And, everyone knows him and his background from his career to his hobbies. They talk to him and engage with him. His medication management is top-notch even with a very challenging condition. Additionally, they treat all of their residents with the same kindness and care."

"My Mum recently moved from a care home out of the area into Oak Grange. From the day she arrived the welcome from all members of the team was warm yet professional ensuring Mum’s needs were met. She is treated with dignity yet the team has got to know her and she has fun there, seeing her laughing with them is just the best feeling. The facilities are excellent and the food is varied with lots of options. Mum feels safe and at home which is all we as her family had hoped. I can’t comment on the activities yet as Mum has yet to try them but with the team's encouragement and support, Mum is sitting in a chair which she hasn’t done for a few years."

"My husband had sadly been kept in the hospital for 17 weeks as he tried to recover from Sepsis. He was treated appallingly there, without respect and care, ignoring his dementia. He was deteriorating so quickly they found him a care space at Oak Grange. I was very impressed when I was shown around this home. Unfortunately, although the care appeared good, many times when I visited there was a shortage of qualified staff on the ward and my hubby was showing a high level of fear and distress. He was often dirty and his urine bag wasn't emptied making walking impossible. I found him walking around without slippers on a number of occasions because one/both of them had disappeared. There was no real concern. On transferring to a home nearer to me, many carefully named belongings weren't sent with him. Indeed his case contained a whole variety of clothes, including a lady's blouse, that didn't belong to him. There was no concern when I reported this to the home."

"From the moment I walked into Oak Grange, I knew that it was the home where my Dad would be cared for in the best possible way. The residents are treated not just as old people with dementia, but as people still very much living and there is an emphasis on knowing all about the person, their life and interests. All staff are utterly professional and genuinely interested in and caring for both residents and their families and take the time to speak with and listen to any concerns the family may have which are always acted upon quickly. The activity staff and programme is a blessing and second to none. My Dad may not remember the activity shortly after taking part, but in the moments of the activity he has gained much pleasure, been stimulated and able to engage with others. Oak Grange has lovely facilities in my Dad's unit, which creates a genuinely homely environment: the spacious bedroom with en-suite, wide carpeted corridors with more than one corridor, beautifully furnished sitting room, garden views from the bedroom and dining room, access to a secure outside space and not forgetting the super cinema room for entertainment! I am and will be forever grateful that Oak Grange exists and that my Dad is able to live there."

"My dad moved to Oak Grange Care Home having lost my mum and becoming nearly blind and was made to feel straight at home. The staff caring for him with kind and loving care. He had a lovely sunny room which he was able to make his own which was well maintained. He had patio doors onto a sunny patio and was able to sit outside. The food was excellent he loved walking along to the restaurants three times a day for his meals (all on the flat). Coffee and tea were regularly brought to his room and he could walk up to the bistro to entertain or just sit and read the paper with a coffee. The staff were lovely, caring and kind, creating a home from home environment. The entertainments were amazing and gave him a lot of fun and laughter during the last years of his life. He was very happy at Oak Grange and we will forever be grateful to the wonderful staff."

"My father is extremely happy in the home and he is loved by all. The staff are very kind and work extremely hard under considerable pressure as nursing care needs are very high. Often, there seems to be insufficient staff for the workload. Consequently, my dad's shaving is often nursed and he does not get a bath, which he did love."

"We have been regular visitors to see my father-in-law for several years. We have nothing but the highest praise for all the staff in this lovely home. "Having viewed various care homes in the area I decided to book my 88-year-old mother into Oak Grange for respite whilst I and my husband took a much needed holiday. Mum has dementia and when we explained to her that we had no alternative she reluctantly agreed but was very concerned about going there, however, when we returned she had totally changed her mind. She enjoyed the experience so much that after two days back home she decided that she wanted to return to Oak Grange on a permanent basis which we believe is the best solution for all concerned. I have been very pleased with the attitude and helpfulness of everyone that we have met at the home and we are both pleased and relieved that she is happy and has now opted to go into a well-run home at this stage in her life, as are all the other members of our family. Therefore, I would have absolutely no reservations about recommending this home to others in need of help."

"The nine days that I lived in Barchester Oak Grange Care Home have been very happy for me. I enjoyed the bedroom, the food and the gardens etc. The staff was very kind, helpful and always trying to make you feel at home. Singing in the choir was my favourite activity as well as painting. I will definitely recommend Barchester Oak Grange Care home to anybody who is looking for a nice place to stay a while."
