What our families say

A Warm, Homely Environment with Outstanding Support
Milford House in Salisbury is one of the most welcoming and homely care homes I’ve had the pleasure of visiting. The environment is warm, comforting, and truly feels like a home away from home for its residents.
A special mention must go to Scarlett, whose passion and dedication are evident in everything she does. She is a true advocate for resident wellbeing and has played a vital role in raising awareness about the impact of hearing loss within the home. Thanks to her efforts, Milford House is actively addressing this important issue, ensuring that residents with hearing loss are not only supported but empowered to stay connected and engaged.
It’s rare to see such thoughtful, inclusive care, and Milford House is setting a brilliant standard. The team’s genuine care and commitment to wellbeing shine through in every detail.
I would strongly recommend that anyone considering care homes in Salisbury visit Milford House.

I really can't say enough good things about Milford House.
I never wanted to see my grandmother unable to stay in her own home, but here I know she is not just safe and cared for, but is more happy, healthy and active than she has been for a long time.
The staff are fantastic, and genuinely care about the residents and creating a warm, homely atmosphere that makes everyone feel welcome.
Each week there are a range of activities (from weaving, yoga, trips out, talks, music to much more) and suggestions are also considered.
The medical side of things is well handled and responsive.
The food is exceptional, with a varied menu and the chef has happily accommodated the needs and requests of my gran.
Oh, and the garden! My grandmother loved gardening, and having such a lovely garden is really wonderful for her. Even moreso after the works that have just been carried out to make it even more easily accessible.
It's hard to praise it highly enough - it's been fantastic as a new home my grandmother and it is a pleasure to visit her each day.
Thank you!

Milford House Care Home was recently part of the Salisbury Art trail. My husband and I went along with our 5 year old son. We were greeted with warmth. The building was lovely and clean, the staff were welcoming and friendly, but most importantly the residents we met seemed happy, they told us all about the things they get up to. It was a really enjoyable morning

I have been visiting family in this home for a while now and I can honestly say that it is the most well established home I have ever seen. The staff are extremely welcoming, friendly and supportive to everyone who walks through the doors, resident or visitor. The management is outstanding and you can really feel how much everyone cares for the residents here. The home has a lovely inviting atmosphere and I know that everyone in there is looked after magnificently including all of the staff. I couldn’t recommend this place enough!!! Brilliant.

As a music therapist from the national music therapy charity Nordoff and Robbins, I am greatly enjoying visiting Milford House each Tuesday and providing music therapy sessions to residents both in groups and in 1:1 sessions. This is a truly wonderful home and I am so impressed by the quality of care, the friendly professionalism of the staff, and the home's imaginative approach to maintaining quality of life for all residents!

My relative moved into the home following a fall. The staff treated her with dignity and made every effort to get her better. She especially enjoyed the creative and music activities. Unfortunately she passed on Christmas Eve. The family also appreciated the warm support the staff gave us both during and after her stay.

My Brother has been in Milford care home for 6 years and I cannot thank all the staff enough for their kindness and care both of my brother and all the family.
It is a very special place where the staff work so hard to ensure that all the residents have the best possible quality of care, tailored to their individual needs both physically and socially.
Thank you to all the amazing staff from Bridget, Bob and all of Ralphs family

"I was apprehensive putting my mum in a care home. Well i am so suprised what a fantastic home this is. Beautifully done out lovely rooms but most of all the staff are amazing. The manager, the nurses and the carers are empathetic caring and wonderful. Last week me and my sister thought we were losing out Mother. The Milford care home gave us a room each and all meals. How wonderful of them. The food was lovely and each and everyone of the staff was empathetic and caring. Amazing home I'm so happy my mum is in here. 10/10 to all the staff!"

"The Family of and myself can't thank the general manager and her staff at Milford House Care Home, Salisbury for their truly professional care of our mother. Nothing is too much trouble and their attention to detail and empathy is second to none. Chef ensured she had the food she liked which was very important as we all thought she was passing away the weekend of the 6th March. She was very, very ill and I came over from Spain to be with her, my sister and I were made very welcome and were looked after as if we were in a 5* Hotel. We were all prepared for the worst and then by a miracle she pulled through due to the excellent care of the nursing staff and carers, who guided her through the bad times and of course her loving family. Mum is happy in her lovely room with TV, hairdresser saloon, spa and beautiful gardens. We would highly recommend Milford House for its wide range of facilities and loving care and the experienced management team."

"Very welcoming and friendly atmosphere given that my dad stayed as a respite user for just two weeks. My father found the staff very warm and engaging and they took the time to talk with him. He thought the quality of food was excellent, but he would have liked a warm drink, biscuit or snack in the evening, bearing in mind his dinner was at 5.30 pm."

"We have always been impressed with the standard of care provided by Milford House. The home always has a warm and friendly atmosphere, the staff go above and beyond what would be expected. During this Coronavirus crisis, it is comforting to know that my brother-in-law is being so well looked after particularly as we are unable to visit as we live abroad, knowing he is cared for gives us great peace of mind. Many thanks to you all."

"My parents (both aged 89) moved into Milford House together in December 2019. Although there were no double rooms available, the manager was very helpful and arranged two adjacent rooms for them. These were set up as a living room and a bedroom so that Mum and Dad could sleep in the same room together. Recently, during the COVID-19 lockdown, they have moved into two larger next-door rooms, which they tell me they are even happier with. The care my parents have received over the last 6-months has been exemplary. They both have chronic health conditions which made staying in their own home untenable, even with care from me and daily visits from carers. Neither of them was at all happy about moving into a care home, but they have settled very well at Milford House which is testament to the high standard of care they have received there from all of the staff. I feel at ease now knowing my parents are safe and well cared for at Milford House."

"My father is very well looked after in Milford House. He was with my mother until she passed away in April 2020. Dad was escorted to the funeral of Mum and was and still is well looked after. They were both very happy from 2015-2020 in the home. Dad is still very well looked after. Thank you to all staff in this difficult time."

"Mum needed nursing home care and was admitted in March just prior to the nationwide lock-down. The worst possible time to go into "care" where she could have felt abandoned by family and friends. However, Barchester Milford House staff have been wonderful throughout the whole pandemic keeping families informed. Skype calls were offered, which for my 91-year-old mother was an experience. However, she was well supported through these and enjoyed having a chat. We have subsequently visited on 1 July under strict guidance (absolutely necessary) and my daughter and I were so pleased to see my mother looking well and very happy. I feel I could not have chosen a better home for my mother. Thank you to all the staff who have worked so hard during these recent months."

"I have been quite happy here. The staff are friendly. I have a nice room overlooking the garden. A bit noisy at night - but I knew that when I took the room. I am only here for 3 weeks respite - but I would be happy to stay longer if I had to. All the carers are very happy which is good to see!"

"My brief convalescence at Barchester Milford House achieved everything I had hoped for. Everybody I met seemed cheerful and unfailingly helpful in getting me back on my feet. Although I understand the reason for it, 5.30 was three hours too early for the last meal of the day but retaining the bun from afternoon tea and the dessert from supper until later saw me through."

"My friend went into the Barchester Milford House Care Home 18 months ago because of incapacity and unable to manage at home even with community care. Everyone at the home was so kind and helpful to special needs. Her room was nicely decorated and with lovely views across the fields. I was able to book and have lunch with her before the restrictions of Covid. She has recently passed away and was treated with dignity, we will all miss her bright smiley face."

"After living with increasing support at home, my mother moved into Milford House Care Home about a year and a half ago. During all that time, she has been suffering from Vascular Dementia and struggles to remember anything or to form meaningful sentences. Since moving into the home we have noticed how happy she is. She loves being surrounded by people who are kind and look after her. There are wonderful activities which she thoroughly enjoys. Although she can't express this in her own words, we can see it in her eyes and members of staff tell us lovely stories of the ways she enjoys dancing with them. We can't thank Milford House enough."

"My mother was extremely worried about going into a care home for respite care. After a couple of days, she said "This is a really nice place to live". By the end of the week, she was calling it home and wanting to stay permanently. My mother is not the easiest of people to please, so a big thank you to all the lovely staff who have made her feel welcome, cared for her needs without fussing and ensured she is happy and comfortable. I am very much relieved that she has been so happy and it is the most relaxed that I have seen my mother since my Dad died. Thank you so much."

"A positive experience during what was a trying and difficult time for all concerned. The care afforded to my mother could not have been more empathetic, professional or thorough. My mother entered the home suffering, in addition to Alzheimer’s, acute anxiety and depression. The latter two symptoms were addressed and managed expeditiously. Staff were open and frank with me over all aspects of my mother’s care and devoted considerable time and resources to make her feel safe, comfortable and respected."

We are convinced this was a result of the wonderful care she received there. We will always feel indebted to all the wonderful staff at Milford House. Thank you all."

"I was impressed by the management of Milford, her experience, commitment and high standards. Some of her staff have been here for a considerable length of time. Cleanliness is very good and genuine practical support from the carers. Catering was varied with choices and well cooked. All this strengthened me and I would certainly recommend Milford to anyone. A very minor point, if Grapefruit is on the daily breakfast menu please provide it. How about a physical exercise room for some who need it."

"Friendly and caring staff. Since being in the Milfdor House as a resident, my mother has only undertaken planned hospital visits. Previously, she spent 23 out of 26 weeks in and out of the hospital for various ailments. This illuminates for me the impact of 24-hour nursing care along with 24-hour live-in care."

"After four turbulent weeks between wards in the wonderful hospital, my grandma came to Barchester Milford House Care Home for end-of-life care. The last weeks of her 97 years were dignified and peaceful. The manager and all her team could not do enough for us at all hours of the day and night. Grandma was afforded excellent nursing care in the quiet and comfort of a five-star hotel. A tremendous thank you to all and I felt such a connection to them, I asked if I could volunteer there."

"One cannot expect perfection as we who have been asked to make the judgements have good days and bad days. Routines get disturbed. However, my 90th birthday last week showed up the loving, inspired party planner's skills; getting to know me, what and why I love the birds, flowers and butterflies to decorate the dining table making it worthy of the delicious meals the chefs create. The festive air brought out happy greetings from those coming and going on daily rounds. No better care home is there."

Milford House Care Home surpassed all expectations - providing a log from one carer's garden that was decorated with little bird figures, including a nut hatch and a woodpecker. "I visited a friend at Milford House last weekend and I must say how impressed I was. There was a lovely, homely atmosphere. The staff were friendly and the care my friend received was wonderful. We spent some time looking at their current art exhibition and what joy that has given to the residents, friends and family of the home. It certainly is a unique concept to have the exhibition on the doorstep. It has been a real talking point with my friends in the women's institute back home. My friend says that the 3-course meals at lunchtime are of a high standard and there is a varied menu each day. It is just like being in a restaurant."

"My husband has been a Milford House user since leaving the Spinal Unit in 2010. At first, he was there for 6 months while I had a property converted for his needs and then a respite user. His needs altered in 2018 and I became unable to care for him at home, and he was admitted to Milford House on a permanent basis. The staff have been kind and supportive to him and me since then and have nurtured him back to better health, and he is happy to stay there. This year the staff supported him in arranging a (surprise) proposal on Valentine's Day, even helping him obtain an engagement ring, and also assisted him, and attended, our wedding in July on his 70th birthday. The staff make us feel part of a large family and I am so glad we were able to find such a fantastic place for him to stay."
