Activities at West Abbey Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, as well as visits from the Donkey sanctuary, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our Cheese & Wine evenings and BBQ's in the summer, that we encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained. We encourage our residents to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can to ensure that life at West Abbey is fun and active for all.

Ryan Palmer

Activities coordinator

Hello, I'm Ryan and I joined West Abbey in 2018 in Hotel Services team where I was nominated 2 years running in the Barchester Care Awards by residents and their families. I moved to Activities in June 2021 which suits my outgoing personality. I know our residents well and love seeing their enjoyment of the entertainment we provide plus going out into the community on our mini bus, I have lived in Yeovil all my life so know all the best places to visit. The team call me the 'IT hero' as I'm always able to resolve the connection issues with our virtual events and our computer / tablets!

Chinese New Year

We recently decided to go oriental here at West Abbey as we celebrated the Chinese new year in style! Did you know that 2024 is the year of the Dragon? Take a look at some of the wonderful food that was cooked for the occasion, all courtesy of our wonderful Chefs here in the home. Residents also received a red (which is said to be a lucky colour in China) envelope with a fortune inside for them to read! We hope you had a Happy Chinese New Year everyone!

Valentines Bingo

We were joined by our residents and their families at West Abbey yesterday evening for a good old game of Bingo! Everyone was treated to some delicious scones with jam and cream. There were lots of prizes to be won and smiles all round!

,

Scrabble Club

What a better way to spend an afternoon than a good old game of scrabble with friends and family. If you didn’t know already, we take our scrabble seriously here at West Abbey! We’re always looking for a challenge, so feel free to join us if you think you’ve got what it takes, to take on our scrabble champions!

Australia Day

Happy Australia Day to all our residents, families and friends of West Abbey! We've had an afternoon of Aussie themed fun, from armchair travel around Australia to trying classic Aussie snacks such as Anzac biscuits and lamington cakes. Join us next time as we will be visiting Venice on our armchair travels!

Burns Night

Burns Night was a great success.

With the whisky flowing and a delicious lunch of Hagis, prepared by our Head Chef, we really enjoyed each others company.

We also had the pleasure of listening to Robert Burns poetry, sang beautifully by one of our residents.

International Flower Day

International Flower Day is on the 19th of January every year, providing a day to connect and bond with people through a shared love for flowers. To celebrate the day, residents and family members joined the staff for an afternoon of flower arranging, good conversations and lots of fun and laughter!
