Activities at West Abbey Care Home
Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, as well as visits from the Donkey sanctuary, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our Cheese & Wine evenings and BBQ's in the summer, that we encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained. We encourage our residents to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can to ensure that life at West Abbey is fun and active for all.

Hello, I'm Ryan and I joined West Abbey in 2018 in Hotel Services team where I was nominated 2 years running in the Barchester Care Awards by residents and their families. I moved to Activities in June 2021 which suits my outgoing personality. I know our residents well and love seeing their enjoyment of the entertainment we provide plus going out into the community on our mini bus, I have lived in Yeovil all my life so know all the best places to visit. The team call me the 'IT hero' as I'm always able to resolve the connection issues with our virtual events and our computer / tablets!

We are having a 'WOW'
Our Lyde Memory Lane Unit has been undergoing a 'Wow' for few months and we are just putting the finishing touches to the beautiful new bedrooms. The lounge and dining room look stunning so we wanted to give you a little peak of how fabulous it looks - more news on our opening date very soon
Pudsey Day!
We all need a little sunshine yellow in November and helping raise money for pudsey bear this year was lots of fun!
Stepping back in time!
We all enjoyed another amazing Reminiscence session with Jan Millward. On this visit Jan took us back in time to look at bedtime and all the different style of bed clothes and assorted bed time essentials.
Jan then took us on a trip back in time to the old wars to tie in with remembrance. We had a look at all sorts from old ration books and medals, to all the gadgets that was used from mini spy cameras to the morse code!
Not only does Jan bring all her interesting items to show us but she’s full of the knowledge and stories Behind it, this allows her to connect with our residents on such a unique level.
Paying our Respects
Residents at West Abbey care home made a visit to their local memorial stand outside Preston village to laid a wreath on behalf of all the staff and residents.
Pumpkin magic!
We had a Fang -Tastic time celebrating Halloween this weekend! We had a Halloween inspired classic pumpkin carving and put on display at the front entrance for all our visitors to admire
We all enjoyed the Halloween film in the evening, nothing spooky just a bit of fun
Residents loved their ZooLab Visit!
For over 20 years, ZooLab has amazed, educated and inspired through their ethical and engaging hands-on animal encounters.
Staff and residents would also like to say a big thank you to Anna the presenter, she was amazing with the residents and was full of knowledge about all the weird and wonderful creatures she has. We all touched or held an animal without fear, even the snakes!
