Activities at West Abbey Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, as well as visits from the Donkey sanctuary, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our Cheese & Wine evenings and BBQ's in the summer, that we encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained. We encourage our residents to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can to ensure that life at West Abbey is fun and active for all.

Ryan Palmer

Activities coordinator

Hello, I'm Ryan and I joined West Abbey in 2018 in Hotel Services team where I was nominated 2 years running in the Barchester Care Awards by residents and their families. I moved to Activities in June 2021 which suits my outgoing personality. I know our residents well and love seeing their enjoyment of the entertainment we provide plus going out into the community on our mini bus, I have lived in Yeovil all my life so know all the best places to visit. The team call me the 'IT hero' as I'm always able to resolve the connection issues with our virtual events and our computer / tablets!

International Women's Day

Today we celebrated International Women's Day and started with a coffee morning for our residents and team who discussion the role of women in our life time and who has inspired us the most - everyone received a beautiful rose from the activities team as a thank you for their contribution to being part of our Barchester Healthcare family here at West Abbey.

Great quote from Michelle Obama "There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish".

Crafting on St David's Day

Residents celebrated St. David’s Day, the national day of Wales, crafting their very own daffodil decorations this week, each one carefully hand painted! They are now on display and really brighten up our home, lovely to bring spring from the garden inside

Making our own Bread!

Bread is the world's most widely eaten food and has been part of our diet since the early times of mankind so we just had to celebrate Real Bread Week here at West Abbey!
As a team, residents and Ryan kneaded, proven and baked a selection tasty traditional rolls, we all enjoyed reminiscing as we worked memories of watching mothers making bread at home and then doing the same with children and grandchildren
The rolls tasted delicious and we all agreed making bread binds us together as family

Helping our garden birds!

Residents are marking National Nest Box Week by creating and installing nest boxes in their garden to help support the local bird population. To attract the birds we chose bright paint colours and had a lovely afternoon decorating the boxes which will be going outside very soon.

Its been a busy Friday in the hair salon for Annette our hairdresser today, and best of all residents don't have to worry about getting windswept as they leave the salon! Everyone looks lovely and very happy
