Thackeray House Care Home in Croydon

At Thackeray House Care Home, we provide first-class 24-hour nursing care and palliative care for older people as well as offering the opportunity for short-term respite stays, perhaps for convalescence after an operation or to give a family member a break from caring for a loved one.

Our nursing home is a small, purpose-built residential care home in Croydon, set in compact but beautifully maintained gardens, with excellent transport links to London and surrounding areas via train, bus and tram. There is a pleasant conservatory overlooking the rear garden and the home is a short walk from Croydon centre.

Personal profiles drawn up with the person concerned and relatives, provide the basis for individualised elderly care, treatment and support. They ensure that Thackeray House tailors activities, diet and medical care to particular needs.

Thackeray House welcomes visitors – we like people to drop into see what we can provide.

Types of care

The Thackeray House nursing and care team provide individualised, person-centred care for older people who are unable to remain at home or who require experienced end of life support. Each individual is assessed prior to admission to ensure the team have the skills and knowledge to meet specific care needs. Residents and families' comments or suggestions are encouraged during the development of proposed care plans and at regular reviews. This enables the team to plan and implement our services based on the individual requirements of each resident, and maintaining a high level of independence is always something that we strive towards. In our latest CQC inspection, 'Care' was rated as ‘Good,’ and for the past two years, we have won a placing in the ‘Top Twenty London Homes’ on carehome.co.uk.

Felicity Motcho

General Manager

Hi, my name is Felicity and I am the General Manager here at Thackeray House. Welcome to our website!

I have over 20 years’ experience in the care and housing sector. I am passionate about leading care and housing within the industry and I take pride in all I have implemented and achieved in my 20 years plus working in this area.

Furthermore, I worked as Head of Care and Housing for over 10 years in my last role and I was part of the senior executive management team. Ultimately, I was the Registered Manager for the Nursing Home and Domiciliary Home Care Services and I managed all of the sheltered housing stock and lease-hold properties. I also managed senior level staff, from managers to nurses.

My main focuses here at Thackeray House are to put residents first, raise staff morale and ensure that the home is well lead.

Tracy Robertson

Administrator

I have worked in an administration since leaving school at age 16 and have been at Barchester since 2009, originally as a Receptionist/Admin Assistant at Westwood House, and from there to the Administrator at Thackeray House on.

Natalie Popa

Activities Coordinator

I began working for Barchester in 2015 as a Carer at Orchard House in Newport. It was a very exciting and enjoyable experience.

In September 2016, I moved to Bromley and learned that there was an activities vacancy at Thackeray House in Croydon, so I requested to be transferred to this home. I began my new job in January 2017 and love working here and making a difference to residents' lives.

Moses Chanakira

Head Chef

I was born in England, but went to Zambia as a child and returned to England in 1988, when I started training to be Chef at Lewisham College and I worked at the student union as a catering assistant while studying.

I initially started working with Barchester Healthcare at a home in Wimbledon as a 2nd Chef and moved to Thackeray House 4 years ago, having been promoted to Head Chef.

I am aware mealtimes are a hugely important event in the day for our residents, so I endeavor to prepare, cook and present food from seasonal menu that residents enjoy. I lead a team of kitchen staff comprising of, a 2nd Chef, Kitchen assistants and hostesses whom I support in their roles and encourage to professionally develop. I work closely with the General Manager, Deputy and Registered Nurses to ensure we provide meals suitable for residents differing requirements, for example, Diabetic, Pureed, Soft, Halal, Gluten free and Lactose free diets.

Thackeray House, holds events for residents, relatives and local community throughout the year which always involves catering. This is jointly organised with the General Manager, Activity Coordinator and myself and relies on effective team work by all the kitchen team to make a success of the event. I communicate daily with the General Manager and visit residents in their own rooms regularly or chat with them in the dining room, to ensure we are meeting their individualised needs and they are satisfied.

I am always happy to prepare catering for special occasions for residents and their families and we have previously catered for a wedding, birthday parties and funeral teas. Visitors to the home will find they have access to tea, coffee and my home baking and many make use of this facility.

I enjoy working at Thackeray House, as there is excellent communication between all departments and I there is a great team spirit where everyone helps when required.
