Activities at Stoneham Grove Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Hello, my name is Iuliana and I'm Activities Lead here at Stoneham Grove.

I worked as a History Teacher for 12 years before joining Barchester in 2017.

I am passionate about my job and I love working with people. I enjoy planning and providing meaningful activities that make a difference in the lives of our residents, counting their hobbies and wishes.

In my free time, I enjoy travelling, dancing, quizzing and playing board games with my  family and friends.

I am looking forward to using my skills and experience to enhance the lives of our wonderful residents.

How lovely that Eddie joined his mum, Betty on our visit to Hilliers' garden centre enjoying quality family time together and creating special memories. "It brings me great pleasure to see resident's families join us on outings or at our home. Betty was thrilled that Eddie joined us and thoroughly enjoyed herself" Jodie Lunnon, General Manager.

Reading Football Club Memory Café

Reading Football Club Memory Café

Staff and residents had a fun filled and memorable day at the annual dementia awareness event hosted by Reading Football Club. The group were greeted warmly and enjoyed delicious complimentary refreshments, had a chat with charities and specialists in dementia and then enjoyed a walk around the stadium to see where the action happens! For many residents the visit helped them reconnect with the thrill of football bringing back fond memories whilst creating new ones with friends and carers. The trip highlighted Stoneham Grove’s commitment to meaningful activities that support wellbeing, social connection and a strong sense of community.

A Very Egg - citing visit!

A Very Egg - citing visit!

Children from Purley Pre-School and the local community visited us for an Easter Egg Hunt, and we all had a wonderful time. Our residents were delighted to see the children running around and collecting the colourful eggs hidden in the garden.

Dorcas, a resident, said: “I loved taking part in the Easter egg hunt, it was such a lovely idea, and we were so happy to be able to give Easter surprises to all the children. I think the children all had a great time too."

Art In Care Homes Day

Art in Care Homes is a NAPA programme which aims to highlight the wellbeing benefits of arts, creativity and cultural engagement in care settings. Its aim is to promote the beneficial outcomes for care recipients, staff teams and relatives, champion good practice and encourage care settings to develop more creative activities and opportunities.

We decided to celebrate the day by hosting a crafting session using collage techniques and going green by reusing materials... The residents loved it and produced some wonderful pieces of artwork

We celebrated Mother's Day in style by inviting families to attend a cream tea held in our bistro! We had a fabulous afternoon filled with cakes, tea and entertainment by Rosie ...., who had everyone up and grooving!

A big thank you to all the staff who made the afternoon possible. It was so nice to see everyone so happy and dancing the afternoon away!

What a glorious week its been....

A stroll along Thames Promenade

A stroll along Thames Promenade

A firm favourite of our residents at Stoneham Grove, is a walk along the river at Thames Promenade in Caversham. Residents were wrapped up warm in winter coats, within the space of a few days they’re enjoying an ice cream by the river with the sun shining!! There’s nothing better than stretching your legs, and breathing in some fresh air and admiring the nature and scenic scenes.

Exploring the past at Milestones Museum

Exploring the past at Milestones Museum

We are so lucky to have so many interesting places to visit within easy access of our home. Recently we visited the Milestones Museum of Living History and explored the museum’s streets, shops and buildings to discover how people used to live, admired the unique collection of vintage vehicles and had a go in the penny arcade!

Our residents spent time learning interesting and fun facts about the museum's collections and enjoyed a reminiscing session, where they shared amazing stories about their childhood.

We'd like to thank all the Milestones Museum staff for their kindness, generosity and guidance. It was a very exciting and enjoyable day out for all!

Baking Funtimes

Baking Funtimes

As part of our great activities planner the residents are always kept busy with fun things to do at Stoneham. Our ladies had fun in our weekly baking club today where they could get creative making cakes, but also enjoyed a nice slice with a nice cuppa afterwards.
