Activities at Mallard Court Care Home

We provide a wide range of group activities and individual one to one activities to meet our residents needs including musical entertainers, PAT dog visits, minibus outings, themed events and much more!

We take a person centred approach when planning each individuals activities so they can achieve a feeling of self worth and well-being.

We hold monthly meetings with the residents and also regular meetings with their family and friends, discussing any ideas that they may have, and also any problems that their may have. Both of our activities coordinators, Steve and Lynne, have completed NAPA Activity Workers Level 2 Award training, and are continually seeking new ideas so we can ensure life in the home is as varied and interesting as possible. We encourage strong community links with the local schools, colleges and local charities in the community. Steve is supported also by his dogs, Tia, Pebbles and Oscar who give great pleasure to the residents in our home, and can often be seen either on a persons lap or being taken for a walk around the home. Many of the visitors that come into Mallard Court commented that it is so friendly and welcoming.

Steve Moss

Lifestyle Coordinator

Hi, my name is Steve, and I have been a Lifestyle Coordinator at Mallard Court since 2006, and have achieved the NAPA (National Association of Activity Providers) Level 2 Award in Activity Provision in the Care Sector.

We provide a wide range of activities for the people we support, as well as for their families and friends. I also love to have one-to-one chats with residents who like to reminisce about their lives over a cup of tea and some biscuits.

We have our own minibus and have fun days out sight-seeing, having a picnic or going a local pub for a drink and a meal. We also arrange for local artists to provide musical entertainment for everyone at Mallard Court.

Life at Mallard Court Care Home

Halloween Cooking Demo at Mallard Court

Residents had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Halloween-inspired virtual cooking demo.

Alex demonstrated how to prepare a few themed dishes, such as root vegetable tagine, roasted butternut squash mac-n-cheese, chocolate pots with piped biscuits and flapjacks.

Our residents were delighted to be a part of this lovely virtual culinary session by tasting the vegetarian dishes from the comfort of our home.

Musical fun

Residents and staff at Mallard Court are so happy to be able to have live entertainment again with some of our favourite guest entertainers.

Everyone have been having  great fun, enjoying afternoons of our favourite music, singing along, dancing, laughter and enjoying the moment.

A little pamper

Residents really enjoy regular pamper sessions here at Mallard Court.  This week we turned our Foot Spa into a multi functioning mini hand Jacuzzi!

After a lovely bubbly nail soak we enjoyed manicures and pretty painted nails, followed by  luxurious hand massages and finished with a choice of wonderful scented hand creams.  We chatted and chose colours together, the most popular colours today being pale pastels and glittery golds.

,

A game of Boccia

Mallard Court residents and staff love the various games we play and one of the favourite pastimes is a good game of Boccia.

This game is a precision ball sport, similar to Bocce, and related to bowls and petanque.   The sport is contested at local, national and international levels and became a Paralympic sport in 1984.

Residents enjoy a virtual talk from journalist and novelist, Mike Gayle

We had a great time joining journalist and novelist, Mike Gayle, for an intriguing virtual interview, during which he shared top tips for creative writing with our residents and read passages from his latest book, All the Lonely People.

We were thrilled to find out about Mike’s background, to understand what led him to become a writer and his creative process.

It was a lovely talk, enjoyed by all, especially by our keen writers at the home.

A 'Willy Wonka' kinda day

Roald Dahl was born on 13th September 1916 in Llandaff in Wales, he was a British Novelist, short-story writer, poet, screenwriter and wartime fighter pilot.   We celebrated this talented and creative novelist, we chose one of our all-time favourite Roald Dahl stories, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and had a ‘Willy Wonka Day’!

We created our own mini Chocolate Factory and even had a visit from Willy Wonka himself and one of his Oompa Loompa’s !

We had real Wonka Chocolate, a ‘Sweetie Tree’ along with Wonka Cupcakes and buns with a selection of edible mini Roald Dahl books atop.

One resident commented “oh my word it’s a real feast for the eyes as well as the mouth”!   We had lots of fun and Mallard Court was full of  laughter and we put the movie on to watch together and lots of chocolate and sweet treats were eaten and we all  had a fantastic @willy Wonka@ day.
