Activities at Mallard Court Care Home

We provide a wide range of group activities and individual one to one activities to meet our residents needs including musical entertainers, PAT dog visits, minibus outings, themed events and much more!

We take a person centred approach when planning each individuals activities so they can achieve a feeling of self worth and well-being.

We hold monthly meetings with the residents and also regular meetings with their family and friends, discussing any ideas that they may have, and also any problems that their may have. Both of our activities coordinators, Steve and Lynne, have completed NAPA Activity Workers Level 2 Award training, and are continually seeking new ideas so we can ensure life in the home is as varied and interesting as possible. We encourage strong community links with the local schools, colleges and local charities in the community. Steve is supported also by his dogs, Tia, Pebbles and Oscar who give great pleasure to the residents in our home, and can often be seen either on a persons lap or being taken for a walk around the home. Many of the visitors that come into Mallard Court commented that it is so friendly and welcoming.

Steve Moss

Lifestyle Coordinator

Hi, my name is Steve, and I have been a Lifestyle Coordinator at Mallard Court since 2006, and have achieved the NAPA (National Association of Activity Providers) Level 2 Award in Activity Provision in the Care Sector.

We provide a wide range of activities for the people we support, as well as for their families and friends. I also love to have one-to-one chats with residents who like to reminisce about their lives over a cup of tea and some biscuits.

We have our own minibus and have fun days out sight-seeing, having a picnic or going a local pub for a drink and a meal. We also arrange for local artists to provide musical entertainment for everyone at Mallard Court.

Life at Mallard Court Care Home

,

Christingle

We loved making our very own Christingles here at Mallard Court using cloves, fresh ginger, star anise and cinnamon sticks along  fruit and berries and we used fresh Rosemary picked from our garden here at Mallard Court.

Our home smells of Christmas spices and our residents and staff loved creating their own individual Christingle!

Bauble Workshop

We all had a wonderful time joining Jennifer Owen - founder of Goldfinch Floral Studio for a creative floral bauble workshop.

Jennifer transported our residents to the out of the ordinary world of flowers and crafts and demonstrated how to create stunning hand-made baubles filled with dried flowers and grasses.

Our residents enjoyed filling and decorating their own glass baubles and their unique creations will be displayed at the home for everyone to enjoy.

Birthday celebrations

Mallard Court resident Pat celebrated her landmark 90th birthday on the 15th of December 2021. Pat was born in Leeds on the 15th December 1931 and lived in Headingley and Pat worked has a Pharmacy Assistant in the West Park area of Leeds.

Pat had a visit with her family and they sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to Pat with members of the dedicated Care team at Mallard Court.

Pat is a very family orientated individual and she loves animals especially dogs and loves to see her daughter’s Jack Russell called Jazz and the Pat dogs that visit Mallard Court regular basis.

Christmas decorations

Here at Mallard Court our residents were thrilled to receive beautiful handmade Christmas Tree decorations from the 6th Bridlington Scouts Group

We decorated our tree on Memory Lane with them and they look gorgeous and we all agreed how absolutely  wonderful they are as we all admired them!

Thank you the 6th Bridlington Scouts Group from everyone here at Mallard Court!

Blenheim Palace Virtual Experience

We experienced the Christmas extravaganza of Blenheim Palace with Social Historian - Antonia Keaney, who took us on a recorded tour around the Christmas sights at the palace this year.

Our residents were able to discover the story of The Nutcracker re-imagined within the palace rooms, each one exquisitely transformed and filled with hidden surprises – from the toymaker’s workshop on a frosty Christmas Eve; through the glistening Land of Snow and onto the candy-cane Kingdom of Sweets adorned with the sweetest of treats and larger-than-life gingerbread men.

Then the residents explored the after-dark illuminated trail in the palace’s picture-perfect gardens. A feast for the senses, as we witnessed glittering tunnels of light, dancing lakeside reflections, trees drenched in jewel-like colour and mesmerising flickering flames in the fire garden.

It was a truly magical experience, enjoyed by all.

Pet therapy

We have regular visits from our furry friends here at Mallard Court including our very own Pebbles who comes to work with one of our activity coordinators.  Ziggy loves his visits and residents enjoy their pet therapy sessions. Ziggy is a very handsome and kind boy and as usual there was lots of smiles and laughter from the residents and staff and two very happy ‘Pat Dogs’ getting lots of attention.
