Meet our Activities Coordinator, Amber Wilson
Hi, my name is Amber and I'm the Activities Coordinator for Latimer Court care home. I've worked at Barchester since November 2018, initially joining as a receptionist. My passion is to provide person centred activities that simulate life enrichment. Residing in a care home doesn't mean you can't continue to do the things you have always enjoyed. I spend time with each resident to ascertain the type of activities that suit their particular interests and abilities.
I believe 'life is for living' and, along with my colleagues; fellow activities coordinators and the care teams from each community, we have created a full schedule of daily activities which include; Knit & Natter, Music and Movement, Pottering and Planting (inside and out), Flower arranging, quizzes, getting creative with textiles and paints.
We also have a fortnightly Gentleman’s club and Ladies pampering session. I'm keen on extending our current community engagements too, linking with local schools, church groups and entertainers to ensure life at Latimer is fulfilling and fun!
New ideas and interactions are always welcome, please feel free to email me at any time LatimerCourt.Activities@barchester.com
Activities at Latimer Court
Here at Latimer Court, we have a varied social programme that includes themed events once a month, painting classes, day trips out, exercise classes and arts & crafts, to name but a few. We strive to tailor our activities to suit everyone's needs, and update our notice boards weekly so that all families and visitors can see what their loved ones have been up to. Our aim is to make sure that those we support can enjoy a happy and fulfilled stay with us. You can take a look at some of our regular activities by clicking here.
Life at Latimer Court Care Home
Our living kitchens were the perfect place to try some cupcake topping today. Apparently not as easy as Head Chef Tony makes it look! Well done to all our lovely residents who gave piping chocolate-cream a try.
Autumn Season Flower Display
Our residents have selected these beautiful autumnal flowers from Floral Image in Bristol. They decided to give them pride of place in the Bistro, where they can enjoy them with a lovely brewed coffee and a homemade treat, cooked fresh daily by Head Chef Tony. Big thank you to Sean for delivering them. www.floralimage.co.uk #floralimage
International Chefs Day
We took time today, 20th October 2020, to applauded Chef Tony Jeanes and his team for the amazing job they do to keep our residents nourished with an exciting and varied daily menu.
Tony, along with assistants; Ian and Sajmon (pictured) are just a few of the overall kitchen staff celebrated today by the residents and staff on ‘International Chef’s Day’. In honour of this special day, Chef Tony and the team cooked up a trio of scrumptious Pavlovas topped with fresh berries, as requested by one of our residents this morning, to demonstrate their culinary skills before starting the day.
Kerry Hill, General Manager at Latimer Court said: “I’m delighted to have such a caring and talented team working together in our kitchens, they always take time to listen and learn about our residents dietary needs and look to produce flavoursome dishes using seasonal produce. Chef Tony has even offered to provide ‘cookery classes’ to groups within the local community, we’d ask you to keep an eye out on our Facebook page for future tutorial posts.” https://m.facebook.com/BarchesterLatimerCourt/
Our residents have started making these wonderful tissue-paper textured poppies for our 'Rememberance Day' window displays. We think its going to look amazing.
Arts, Crafts and Pampering
The Latimer residents have enjoyed various arts & crafts sessions this week. Knit and natter in the bistro, painting and magic water painting on memory lane. Some of our ladies were even treated to a mini-manicure and polish - beautiful!
Thanks Chef Tony! Our residents from each community enjoyed a morning of decorating freshly baked cookies. From adding chocolate sprinkles to iced flowers, it was a true ‘sugar rush’ activity to get them ready for afternoon tea. The temptation to not eat them was all too much for some ...well nearly all of us!
Continuing Life Enrichment
During this unprecedented time, we have a number of measures in place to ensure residents remain engaged, connected and socially active.
Cheese, Wine and a Tour
We would like to invite you to join us for a relaxing afternoon where you can meet the team, sample a selection of delicious local cheeses and wine and take a tour of our home.
Weekly Gentlemen's Club
Come along and enjoy various social activities with other gentlemen and some delicious light refreshments.
