Meet our Activities Coordinator, Julie Gibbons

Hi, my name is Julie and I am the Activities Coordinator at Latimer Court in Worcester.

I started working here as the Receptionist/Administrator; I really enjoyed meeting and greeting people in reception, as well as entertaining residents by organising coffee morning activities, such as music therapy, doing the crosswords, reminiscence sessions, and just general chatting. However, I wanted more interaction with the residents and their loved ones, so I decided to become an activities coordinator.

I am a qualified yoga and mindfulness meditation teacher and I started introducing armchair yoga to residents on a weekly basis. I am very passionate about the benefits of doing yoga and meditation on a regular basis, as it helps us to become strong, stable individuals on an emotional, mental and physical level. I started my yoga journey in 2003 whilst I was living in Belgium with my children. I quickly learned that it made me feel very positive, happy and very relaxed. I teach gentle yoga exercises specifically adapted for the elderly to improve their mobility and breathing.

I am a very creative person and have lots of ideas and ways of stimulating residents' minds to improve their overall well-being. I love to make residents feel happy, secure and challenge them with different physical, artistic and intellectual activities to fulfill their needs. I ensure that activities are full of fun and laughter and I even introduced residents to laughter yoga for the first time, which was a huge success – I have finally found my dream job!

Activities at Latimer Court

Here at Latimer Court, we have a varied social programme that includes themed events once a month, painting classes, day trips out, exercise classes and arts & crafts, to name but a few. We strive to tailor our activities to suit everyone's needs, and update our notice boards weekly so that all families and visitors can see what their loved ones have been up to. Our aim is to make sure that those we support can enjoy a happy and fulfilled stay with us. You can take a look at some of our regular activities by clicking here.

Lollipop Pony Parties

Lollipop Pony Parties visited Latimer Court for the first time recently. Lollipop and Tinkerbell the miniature Shetlands were loved by all the residents and were really well-behaved. We hope to have them visit again in the new year.

This is Our Minibus

Here at Latimer Court, we have our own minibus for trips out and appointments.

Coming into a care home should not mean you lose your independence; we strive to ensure that residents are kept active and can get out and about when they want.

Here is the lovely Margaret; she is off to the garden centre!

Our next trip will be to do some Christmas shopping, so look out for our minibus and give us a wave!

Tesco Trip

We went to our local Tesco with these lovely ladies to buy treats and essentials – and even a Christmas stocking filler or two were purchased!. The ladies decided to buy a few extra items to donate to the local food bank.

Out in Worcester

On Saturday 11th November, we took the lovely, colourful Margaret to St Richards Hospice in Worcester to purchase beautifully handmade poppies. We also took the opportunity to stop off at Worcester Country Park for a nice warming cuppa in the fresh air.

Barchester's 25th Anniversary

Residents at Latimer Court had lots of fun celebrating 25 years of Barchester. Everyone really got into the spirit of the celebrations with live entertainment, party games, champagne and canapés, which were enjoyed by residents, their families and the local community.
