Activities at Highfield Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Neil Barnard
Hi, my name is Neil, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Highfield! I joined the team and role in March 2025.
I love being around people and making a difference to those individuals. Just to see the smiles on their faces brings so much pleasure. I have been a vocalist since 2021, and singing brings me so much joy. You may hear me before you see me.
Don’t be shy—come say hello! I hope you can join us for the fun activities we have planned!
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Highfield Care Home

International Nurses Day
On this International Nurses Day, we honor the unwavering dedication and compassion of nurses everywhere—especially the incredible residents among us who once wore the uniform with pride. (Anne pictured) Today, as we celebrate with those who spent their lives caring for others, we’re reminded of the deep impact their kindness and strength had on countless lives. Their stories, laughter, and wisdom continue to inspire us, making this day not just a tribute, but a heartfelt celebration of a legacy built on love and healing.

Keeping active with a game of boules
Keeping active, having social interactions and being mentally stimulated is very important to Residents at Highfield. Residents took advantage of the lounge space to play indoor bowls.
As part of the homes' life enrichment programme, we include firm favourites in the homes calendar with fun-filled adapted games that they have played over the years in a safe environment!

VE Day Celebrations
Pupils and staff at Barkston Ash Catholic Primary School proudly hosted a special VE Day celebration, welcoming residents from Highfield for an afternoon of music, cake, and shared memories.
Homemade cakes were enjoyed by all, and residents shared personal stories of wartime Britain, offering pupils a unique, living insight into history. The event highlighted the importance of intergenerational activities, providing young people with a deeper understanding of the past and giving older guests the joy of connecting with the younger generation.

Residents enjoy musical performance
Residents and guests enjoyed an afternoon of grins with a live music performance that took place at the home.
Local entertainer Maggie performed a selection of classic hits, including Run Rabbit Run and Somewhere Over The Rainbow. The residents truly embraced the fun and sang their hearts out.
One resident said, “I haven’t heard some of these songs in many years. The classics never go out of style!”

Alpaca Visit
Highfield was full of animal mischief when Joe's Owl Encounters Exotic Zoo paid a visit with - Mr Bubbles and Colin. Animal therapy sessions are designed to stimulate and engage while promoting mental well-being.
Resident Patricia was very excited by Mr Bubbles and Colin: “As a child I used to love all the animals on the nearby farm. "Today was very enjoyable, and it was wonderful that the animals were happy to be stroked by so many of us.”

Home host Menopause Talk with guest speaker
Highfield hosted a special menopause coffee morning, welcoming local community members for an open and supportive conversation. The event featured guest speaker Donna Dabell from Flawless by Donna, who shared insights and advice to help those navigating the challenges of menopause.
The coffee morning focused on the impact of perimenopause on the skin, offering practical advice for skincare before, during, and after menopause. Attendees also learnt essential tips for maintaining skin health and were guided on the key safety questions to ask when considering professional treatments such as fillers or Botox.
