Activities at Elgar Court Care Home

Residents this week were collecting dried flowers and creating a collage for everyone to see. Group activities are a marvellous way of getting people together not just for the activity, but to get to know each other more and have some fun! The collage is currently on display in our reception area if you would like to drop by for tea and cake and take a look.

Wonderful wonders will never cease at our home, and we were very lucky to have Patch, a wee Shetland pony visit us. Residents were delighted to meet such a well behaved cutie, and he visited residents on every community. Completely unfazed by our lift, we hope this 'uplifting' experience will be repeated again later this year! Thank you for visiting us Patch and see you soon!

At Elgar Court, we are lucky to have a range of indoor and outdoor activities and exercises for residents, put on by our Activities team and also from experts brought in. Sarah Grocutt a local Malvern fitness trainer is coaxing residents of all abilities, through some gentle pilates exercises and making the most of the lovely weather outside.

At the weekend Elgar Court had their 2nd year anniversary of providing a home for residents and a place for our local communities to meet.

Living life well continues to be at the heart of everything we do in our residential home, and we had another amazing year welcoming new residents and returning guests.

Joining us this weekend to help us celebrate and appreciate staff and our residents was Cllr Clive Hooper, who originally launched Elgar Court in 2023 and Cllr David Mead who was also Deputy at the time.

Residents were riveted to watch the “So X-Sighted Morris Dancers” who are a sight impaired Worcestershire group, and audience members also got up to have a go too! After the dancing, Residents, guests and Morris Dancers stopped by the home’s Tikki Bar for a Cocktail or Mocktail or two, before moving onto watch the Malvern’s Malarkey Ukulele group perform. The Strawberry and Basil crush and Espresso Martinis were very popular!

Michael's family travelled from far and wide to celebrate his birthday with him this weekend at Elgar Court. Michael is a man who has travelled extensively all his life, and his family worked with our Chef to theme his birthday feast of 'Food from around the World'. However, just look at that magnificent cake his family made just for him - we were certainly impressed! A resident's Birthday, family gatherings and social events are very important to us at Elgar Court, and an opportunity to gather with their loved ones, share stories, and make more memories.

At Elgar Court, we will do all we can to ensure our residents live life well with us and have special moments like this.

Residents are always keen to go out on country drives and find news places to visit - and cake to enjoy! This week, a new hotspot was found in The Cafe, at Barton Court in Colwall. This treasure of a cafe is set in beautiful countryside surroundings, and as you can see the group is thoroughly enjoying a relaxing morning with friends.

This week we decided to have a trip to Tewkesbury and enjoy the wonderful views of the River Severn over tea and cake. But by popular consensus, it was ice creams and squash all the way because of the splendid weather! It was a chance to catch up, chat about life and enjoy the scenery and more importantly, get to know our new guests more. Respite breaks are an ideal ways to take a mini holiday from day to day life or to recuperate after an illness - and quite often, guests decide to stay after sampling life at Elgar Court and the services and lifestyle we offer.

At Elgar Court, trips out, Social and physical activities are not just our only weekly activities, but togetherness opportunities to spend time with each other in our home - especially when it's too hot to go out and air conditioning in our Cafe was the order of the day!  Discombobulated is an informal adjective meaning confused or disordered and our residents had to come up with as many words as possible using the letters in this word. There was certainly no confusion or disorder amongst residents as they had made well over 150 words! Management and staff were truly stumped at the combinations and we were truly out performed by these mighty geniuses!
