Activities at Elgar Court Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Kerrie Perks

Activities Leader

Hello, My name is Kerrie and I provide the unique life enrichment for residents at Elgar Court.  I moved to Malvern 12 years ago to live with my fiance and we have two tortoises and a snake.  I love to play Dungeons and Dragons with my friends.  I am very 'outdoorsy' and used to ride horses and compete nationally in athletics, specialising in track and field for Redditch and Bromsgrove athletics club.  In my spare time, I love being in the kitchen and making treats for my family.

Hogan is a howling success!

Pets As Therapy (PAT) is a national charity that enhances the health and wellbeing of thousands of people in communities across the UK.  They visit many care homes to give residents who enjoy being with animals, an opportunity to spend time with them.  Our residents, were delighted to hear more from his owner Andrea about Hogan, and the support ‘Pets As Therapy’ provides. Many of our residents had family dogs in the past, and this was a lovely opportunity for them to tell everyone about the pets they had owned.

Thank you to Andrea, and we look forward to see you soon.

Flower Power!

We think one of our residents has started a mini Florists in her suite! Pam has recently joined our family at Elgar Court, and all weekend visitors came to see how she is settling in. It’s always a welcome sight to meet our resident’s families and friends, and it helps us to get to know our new residents better – and reassure them our home is living up to the excellent standards we set ourselves to care for them.

We were particularly touched to see the floral table display brought to Pam, which was made up of flowers from each of Pam’s neighbours gardens. Pam is clearly missed by all her neighbours, as they wanted to send her a very personal greeting from them all.

Up, up and away!

Malvern Hills is wonderful for paragliding, and our residents have been marvelling at the numbers of paragliders floating over the top of our home from the comfort of their terrace!  We asked them if they would like to have a go……it was a 50% yes from one of our ladies – and I bet you can’t guess who?

First Dementia Music Cafe in Malvern!

Age UK and Elgar Court are launching the first ever Dementia Music Cafe in Malvern.

Music and singing is proven to be enormously therapeutic and beneficial to people living with dementia. Kirsty Hughes from Age UK, met with the team at Elgar Court this week to see how we can make this happen! Watch this space as we are really excited to see how we can support our community members living with dementia and above all, connect and have some fun together. Register your interest with us, and we will keep you posted. Pictured here is Kirsty Hughes from Age UK (left) and Becky, our fabulous carer (right).
