Activities at Port Manor Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Exercise For All!

Exercise For All!

Our residents enjoyed a fantastic fitness session with the wonderful Harley, from Exercise For All

The class was thoughtfully designed for older adults, encouraging gentle movement, improving strength, balance and flexibility, while most importantly, bringing plenty of smiles and laughter along the way. Staying active is such an important part of supporting both physical health and emotional wellbeing, and our residents thoroughly enjoyed exercising together in a fun, supportive environment.
A huge thank you to Harley for another uplifting session. We can’t wait to welcome you back soon!
A Warm Welcome to Our Wonderful U3A Bridge Friends!

A Warm Welcome to Our Wonderful U3A Bridge Friends!

It’s always a pleasure to welcome our lovely friends from the Seaford U3A Bridge Club to Port Manor for their weekly bridge afternoon. Their visits are something we all look forward to, bringing together friendship, laughter and a shared love of the game.
One of our residents, Derenda, is always delighted to take her place at the table. As a passionate bridge player, she thoroughly enjoys the challenge, strategy and friendly competition, and it’s wonderful to see our U3A friends warmly welcoming our residents to join in each week.

At Port Manor, we believe in creating meaningful opportunities to stay connected with our local community. Activities like these not only encourage social interaction and mental stimulation but also help build lasting friendships.
A big thank you to the Seaford U3A Bridge Group for your continued friendship!
Oh we do like to live beside the seaside!

Oh we do like to live beside the seaside!

Recently, some of our residents, accompanied by Joel, one of our amazing carers, enjoyed a relaxing trip to the beautiful Seaford seafront, making the most of the glorious sunshine. There’s something special about sitting by the sea, enjoying a delicious ice cream, breathing in the fresh sea air and simply watching the world go by.
At Port Manor, we know that spending time outdoors and staying connected with our local community can have a positive impact on wellbeing. Times like these encourage conversation, trigger happy memories and provide opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment, which is so important in supporting positive mental and emotional wellbeing.
It was a lovely afternoon filled with laughter and seaside nostalgia… and we couldn’t have asked for better weather!
A proud new chapter for Port Manor

A proud new chapter for Port Manor

In June we marked a significant milestone for everyone at Port Manor as we officially opened our beautiful Memory Lane Community, a dedicated dementia care floor designed to enrich the lives of residents living with dementia.
It was wonderful to welcome our residents’ families, friends, members of the local community and our valued business partners to celebrate this very special occasion with us. Together, we marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our home.
We were especially honoured to be joined by our Regional Dementia Lead, Kayleigh Dale, who officially opened Memory Lane by cutting the ribbon alongside our wonderful General Manager, Nancy, and her Deputy, Ellie
At Barchester Healthcare, we believe every person living with dementia deserves compassionate, person-centred care in an environment where they feel safe, understood and truly at home. Our Memory Lane Community has been thoughtfully designed to promote independence, provide comfort and familiarity, encourage meaningful engagement and support residents to continue living fulfilling lives through tailored activities.
We are incredibly proud of this milestone and look forward to creating many more happy memories with our residents and their loved ones within our Memory Lane Community for years to come. Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate such a memorable day!

An Enchanting Evening of Opera

An Enchanting Evening of Opera

We enjoyed a magical performance as we welcomed the wonderfully talented soprano Demelza Stafford for a spectacular Evening of Opera.

Residents, their loved ones and members of our local Seaford community came together to experience an unforgettable performance featuring beautiful arias from the world’s most celebrated operas, much-loved songs from the shows and a selection of modern classics. Demelza’s exceptional voice captivated everyone in the room, creating a wonderful atmosphere filled with smiles, applause and treasured moments.
Guests also enjoyed a delicious buffet accompanied by a glass of fizz, providing the perfect opportunity to relax, chat and make new friendships. It was heart warming to see our home buzzing with laughter, conversation and the shared enjoyment that live music brings.

At Port Manor, we believe that bringing people together through meaningful experiences is at the heart of life enrichment, and evenings like this beautifully reflect our whole-home approach and our close connections with the local community.

Celebrating National Chess Week!

Celebrating National Chess Week!

It’s game on here at the home as our resident Paul and our wonderful carer Sarah enjoyed a friendly game of chess together. With both players deep in concentration, every move was carefully considered… although Paul had the advantage of being the experienced chess master!
Paul has been sharing his knowledge with Sarah, patiently teaching her new strategies and techniques along the way. Moments like these are a wonderful example of the meaningful relationships that flourish throughout our home, where residents and team members learn from one another every day.
Chess is much more than a game, it encourages problem solving, concentration and memory, while providing valuable opportunities for conversation, confidence building and social connection. Supporting residents to continue enjoying lifelong hobbies is all part of our person centred, whole home approach to life enrichment here at Port Manor.

Well played to both Paul and Sarah, we can’t wait to see who makes the next winning move
Stepping into treasured memories..

Stepping into treasured memories..

As we celebrate the opening of our wonderful Memory Lane Community here at Port Manor, our residents will now be able to enjoy some of the fantastic new technology designed to enrich their daily lives.
Sue recently tried our new immersive Virtual Reality goggles alongside Ellie, our Deputy General Manager. These amazing 360° experiences can transport residents to familiar places, peaceful beaches, beautiful gardens and cherished locations from years gone by, helping to spark memories, encourage conversation and provide meaningful reminiscence therapy.
For many people living with dementia, these calming experiences can help reduce anxiety, promote wellbeing and offer joyful moments of connection, discovery and comfort. It’s just one of the many ways we’re embracing innovative, person-centred care to enhance life on our Memory Lane community!

Today, Sue enjoyed listening to Sandy Shaw on our record player and shared how she remembered the singer performing barefoot! The familiar tunes brought back so many happy memories that Sue couldn’t resist getting up for a little bop with the support of our wonderful carer, Tatyana.
Our Memory Lane community is thoughtfully designed to provide a calm, supportive and enriching environment, where meaningful moments like these can be enjoyed every day. Through personalised experiences, music and reminiscence, our dedicated team helps residents continue to make special memories while celebrating those from years gone by.
