Activities at Port Manor Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Celebrating life at Port Manor Care Home

Oh we do like to live beside the seaside!

Oh we do like to live beside the seaside!

Recently, some of our residents, accompanied by Joel, one of our amazing carers, enjoyed a relaxing trip to the beautiful Seaford seafront, making the most of the glorious sunshine. There’s something special about sitting by the sea, enjoying a delicious ice cream, breathing in the fresh sea air and simply watching the world go by.
At Port Manor, we know that spending time outdoors and staying connected with our local community can have a positive impact on wellbeing. Times like these encourage conversation, trigger happy memories and provide opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment, which is so important in supporting positive mental and emotional wellbeing.
It was a lovely afternoon filled with laughter and seaside nostalgia… and we couldn’t have asked for better weather!
A proud new chapter for Port Manor

A proud new chapter for Port Manor

In June we marked a significant milestone for everyone at Port Manor as we officially opened our beautiful Memory Lane Community, a dedicated dementia care floor designed to enrich the lives of residents living with dementia.
It was wonderful to welcome our residents’ families, friends, members of the local community and our valued business partners to celebrate this very special occasion with us. Together, we marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our home.
We were especially honoured to be joined by our Regional Dementia Lead, Kayleigh Dale, who officially opened Memory Lane by cutting the ribbon alongside our wonderful General Manager, Nancy, and her Deputy, Ellie
At Barchester Healthcare, we believe every person living with dementia deserves compassionate, person-centred care in an environment where they feel safe, understood and truly at home. Our Memory Lane Community has been thoughtfully designed to promote independence, provide comfort and familiarity, encourage meaningful engagement and support residents to continue living fulfilling lives through tailored activities.
We are incredibly proud of this milestone and look forward to creating many more happy memories with our residents and their loved ones within our Memory Lane Community for years to come. Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate such a memorable day!
Feel Good Friday at Port Manor

Feel Good Friday at Port Manor

Everyone had a great time at today’s Feel Good Friday Wellbeing Event!
It was lovely to see so many smiling faces, and positive energy all around. From relaxing activities to great company, it really lifted everyone’s spirits.
Feel Good Friday takes place every week from 10.30am, and everyone is welcome to join us! Whether you’re looking to unwind, socialise, or simply enjoy a warm and friendly atmosphere, we’d love to see you there.
Blooming Marvellous!

Blooming Marvellous!

This week our Residents have been busy arranging flowers to adorn our home in a riot of colour as we eagerly anticipate a sunny weekend in Seaford. The garden is beckoning but until such time we will bring the outside in and enjoy flowers, friendship and fun!
Bread-making activity

Bread-making activity

At Port Manor our residents rolled up their sleeves and headed into the kitchen for a bread-making activity, led by our Head Chef, Sharon.
There was plenty of teamwork going on, and a little bit of flour flying through the air as everyone enjoyed measuring, mixing, kneading and shaping! Activities like bread making are not only great fun, they also provide wonderful benefits for our residents. Baking encourages creativity, stimulates memories through familiar smells and tastes, and helps maintain important motor skills through hands-on activity. It’s also a lovely opportunity to socialise, build confidence and enjoy a sense of achievement when the delicious results come out of the oven.

Stepping into treasured memories..

Stepping into treasured memories..

As we celebrate the opening of our wonderful Memory Lane Community here at Port Manor, our residents will now be able to enjoy some of the fantastic new technology designed to enrich their daily lives.
Sue recently tried our new immersive Virtual Reality goggles alongside Ellie, our Deputy General Manager. These amazing 360° experiences can transport residents to familiar places, peaceful beaches, beautiful gardens and cherished locations from years gone by, helping to spark memories, encourage conversation and provide meaningful reminiscence therapy.
For many people living with dementia, these calming experiences can help reduce anxiety, promote wellbeing and offer joyful moments of connection, discovery and comfort. It’s just one of the many ways we’re embracing innovative, person-centred care to enhance life on our Memory Lane community!

Today, Sue enjoyed listening to Sandy Shaw on our record player and shared how she remembered the singer performing barefoot! The familiar tunes brought back so many happy memories that Sue couldn’t resist getting up for a little bop with the support of our wonderful carer, Tatyana.
Our Memory Lane community is thoughtfully designed to provide a calm, supportive and enriching environment, where meaningful moments like these can be enjoyed every day. Through personalised experiences, music and reminiscence, our dedicated team helps residents continue to make special memories while celebrating those from years gone by.

Everyone came together to enjoy a relaxing and sociable evening. We welcomed the talented guitarist, Alex Eberhard, who performed a beautiful selection of easy-listening Rat Pack melodies, featuring timeless classics made famous by the legendary Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.
The Residents indulged in a delicious buffet-style spread, while soaking up the soothing sounds of live music. The familiar tunes sparked fond memories, with many residents reminiscing and even singing and tapping there feet their favourite songs.

A special Gentlemens outing for Brian and Lewis!

We took a trip to the Wings Aviation Museum where Brian and Lewis had a wonderful time exploring the aircraft, learning about aviation history, and enjoying lots of interesting discussions together.
Both gentlemen really enjoyed the day, sharing stories, laughter, and making new memories along the way. A fantastic afternoon filled with fun, conversation, and smiles all around
Job of the Day at Port Manor!

Job of the Day at Port Manor!

Today Nick, our maintenance man set out with a mission to jet wash the decking on our café terrace and get it looking fresh and ready for the arrival of spring!
However, it wasn’t long before our resident Vernon spotted the task and simply couldn’t resist getting involved. With great gusto, Vernon took over the jet washer and got straight to work, leaving Nick assisting him, rather than the other way around!
Vernon loves being part of practical, hands-on jobs around the home, and moments like these are so important. Staying involved in everyday activities helps our residents maintain a sense of purpose, independence and wellbeing. It’s a wonderful way to keep minds active, and bodies moving.
Well done Vernon, the terrace certainly is now spring-ready!
A perfect summers day at Port Manor!

A perfect summers day at Port Manor!

Our beautiful garden was filled with laughter, music and wonderful company as our residents and their loved ones came together for a joyful summer picnic.
There was something for everyone to enjoy, from outdoor games and friendly competition to a delicious barbecue expertly prepared by our talented Chef, Nick. We were also delighted to welcome 'Charlies ice cream van' for a special visit, meaning it was ice creams all round!
With the sun shining, music playing and all the families sharing quality time together!

A Relaxing Afternoon!

A Relaxing Afternoon!

This afternoon, some of our residents enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing time together in the lounge, sharing good conversation, laughter, and of course, a delicious selection of cheese and wine.
Moments like these are a lovely reminder of the importance of togetherness, friendship, and enjoying life’s simple pleasures. It was so nice to see everyone chatting, reminiscing, and making new memories in such a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
At Port Manor, we believe that spending quality time together helps create a true sense of community and belonging for our residents.

Special moments like these create lasting memories for our residents and their loved ones, and today’s celebration was certainly one to remember!

Our wonderful Resident Ambassador Elly simply had to be first in line for a taste, as it’s one of her absolute favourites… and her daughter Lyn couldn’t resist joining in too!
There were plenty of smiles all around as everyone enjoyed this sweet Italian inspired treat together. A perfect afternoon at Port Manor!
Lovely Trip to Middle Farm

Lovely Trip to Middle Farm

What a lovely sunny March day we’ve had at Port Manor today!
Hannah, our Activities Co-ordinator accompanied some of our residents on a trip out to Middle Farm, Firle near Lewes. Nestled in the beautiful South Downs, Middle Farm is a traditional working farm and farm shop known for its friendly animals, local produce, and charming countryside atmosphere.
The residents enjoyed a gentle stroll around the farm, taking in the fresh country air and meeting some of the animals along the way. It was the perfect opportunity to reminisce, share stories, and simply enjoy a relaxing day together in the sunshine. It was lovely to see everyone making the most of the day.
