Activities at Port Manor Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

A visit from Teddy

A visit from Teddy

Here at Port Manor we had a lovely surprise visit from Teddy the gorgeous Peke-a-chon.
Mary thoroughly enjoyed her Monday morning cuddles and we know for certain that Teddy did after being slipped a biscuit or two.
What a wonderful way to start the week!

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside

This week we hopped in the Port Manor minibus and took a trip to the seaside.
The sun was warm, the breeze was warm, the company was warm but we didn't dare check to see the if the sea was warm!
The fresh sea air did us all good and we look forward to many more visits like this one.
Learning together

Learning together

We recently enjoyed a wonderful visit from Kayleigh Dale, our Specialist Dementia Nurse here at Barchester Healthcare.
Kayleigh led a fun and informative session for the Port Manor team, teaching latest innovations and best Practice in Dementia Care.
Here at Port Manor we are committed to ensuring our residents living with Dementia have the best quality of life. Kayleigh came to show us how we can achieve that, she explained how our beautiful home is designed to create an environment where residents are empowered and enabled to live a joyful life. We are inspired! Thank-you Kayleigh.

The Power of Colour

The Power of Colour

We want to say a huge thank you to the wonderful Melanie Redstone, image Consultant and Personal Stylist, for coming to us yesterday and delivering the most wonderful presentation. It was a relaxed and inspiring talk on the impact of colour and how wearing the right tones can make all the difference.
Everyone who came along thoroughly enjoyed the event and left with a lot to think about when it comes to styling ourselves. Follow Melanie's Facebook page for more details on how to contact her and how to arrange a personal session if you require.
We would also like to thank everyone who joined us for coming along and our wonderful kitchen team for providing the delicious food!
Our very first Employee of the Month!

Our very first Employee of the Month!

Here at Port Manor Care Home we are so excited to announce our very first Employee of the Month, Lori!
The weeks prior to the home opening are incredibly important and Lori has been such a huge help and support to all her colleagues, people inquiring to the home and our community contacts.
She is the first person people meet when they come through our doors and she is always full of happiness, smiling and welcoming.
Congratulations Lori this award is truly deserved!
Magic Table

Magic Table

Here at Port Manor our magic table is up an running and we are so excited to start using it with our residents. This table is full of wonderful benefits and here are just some of those:
  • Positive effect upon well-being by improving mood, reducing apathy and restlessness, as well as increasing engagement levels especially across the mid-to-late stages of dementia.
  • Increased physical social and cognitive activity.
  • Increased positive emotion and reduction of withdrawn-like symptoms.
An added benefit of our mobile magic Table means that our residents can utilise it anywhere in our home; lounges, coffee area, the garden or even bedrooms – the fun will come to them!
Sunset Sessions

Sunset Sessions

We recently enjoyed our very first Sunset Sessions.
Alex joined us to perform some beautiful classics from Frank Sinatra to Elvis. We drank fizz and enjoyed the music as the sun set on Seaford.
Even though the weather moved us indoors, the event was still a hit and we can't wait wait for the next one.
Thank you to everyone that joined us!
Afternoon Tea

Afternoon Tea

We recently welcomed the lovely ladies from Seaford Baptist Church to our home as they joined our residents and their families in our Café for a delicious cream tea. It was a lovely relaxing afternoon and we enjoyed extending a warm welcome to our home out to the Community.

Coffee with a Coppa

Coffee with a Coppa

We recently hosted our first Coffee with a Coppa event yesterday. We were fortunate enough to be visited by PCSO Jane Disney from Sussex Police who took time out of her incredibly busy schedule to deliver a scam prevention talk.
The talk was so detailed and informative, Jane was so helpful. She gave some great advice on how to keep safe but always what do you if you think you have been or are in the process of being scammed.
Thank you Jane for your time and for being so helpful!
We will be hosting more events like this so if you missed this one, keep your eyes peeled for more and of course, always stay safe!
Naming Our Communities

Naming Our Communities

Today we met with the wonderful Sally White, trustee of Seaford Museum & Heritage Society
We reached out to Sally's team to help us to find names for our three communities that had a special significance to Seaford Town.
We were thrilled and so grateful for the time they put in to thinking of names and being the experts they are, we think they have come up with some fabulous names!
We are keeping them firmly under our hats at the moment but keep posted for the great reveal....
Port Manor Gardening Club

Port Manor Gardening Club

The Residents at Port Manor have been busy in the potting shed giving our hanging baskets a glow up with seasonal flowers. We had a trip to Hillier Garden Centres in the minibus to stock up on spring bulbs, next job planting out before the first frost in readiness for a beautiful display to enjoy in the spring.

Our first Therapy Dog visit

Our first Therapy Dog visit

There is nothing better than a four legged friend to brighten everyone's day...
This gorgeous boy is our new Therapy Dog, Harley, he is a big bundle of energy and perfect for cuddles. We love it when he comes to visit us at Port Manor and we are already looking forward to seeing his cute face again.
Port Manor is Officially OPEN!

Port Manor is Officially OPEN!

Our new luxury care home in Seaford, has opened its doors in style, with a Grand Opening performed by the Mayor of Seaford, Councillor Maggie Wearmouth, in front of invited guests from the local community.
Barchester’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Pete Calveley, and General Manager, Nancy Walford, hosted the event and invited guests to view our stunning new 55 bed care home, along with its beautiful landscaped gardens, which is now open and welcoming its first residents. The home has been designed with residents’ comfort in mind and our team here at Port Manor will offer residential support, respite stays and specialised dementia care, all delivered by our dedicated and passionate team of trained professionals.
