Activities at Port Manor Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Festive Fun at Port Manor!

Festive Fun at Port Manor!

It’s been a wonderfully busy few days here at Port Manor as our team and residents have been turning the home into a magical winter wonderland!
Residents Helen and Janice have been especially hard at work – and having lots of fun along the way! Together, they’ve been proudly overseeing our festive preparations and even created these beautiful Christmas hanging baskets for our front door .
A huge well done to them both – the baskets look absolutely stunning and add such a warm, seasonal welcome to everyone visiting our home.
There’s plenty more Christmas cheer to come…

A Magical Nativity at Port Manor

A Magical Nativity at Port Manor

Our home was filled with the true spirit of Christmas as our carers and staff came together to perform the Nativity story, accompanied by Christmas carols, for our residents and their families.
The event was a perfect example of our whole home approach, with colleagues from across the home coming together to create something meaningful for our residents. At Port Manor, our residents are at the heart of everything we do, and moments like these remind us just how important it is to create memories, celebrate traditions and share joy as one big family
The production was beautifully brought to life in classic style, with traditional narration, familiar carols and a wonderful sense of togetherness that captured the magic of the Christmas story. It was lovely to see residents and loved ones singing along, smiling and sharing such special moments together.
Thank you to everyone who joined us!
Flower Arranging with the Ladies

Today our lovely Administrator Lori and Head of Housekeeping Sabrina gathered the ladies together for a lovely flower arranging session
They were also joined by Ross and, of course our much loved therapy dog Harley, who supervised the activity in his own adorable way!
The afternoon was full or colour, laughter, and beautiful creations
Moments like these brighten our home and bring everyone together in true Barchester style!
A Love Story Spanning Over 60 Years

A Love Story Spanning Over 60 Years

At Port Manor Care Home, we were truly touched to welcome Sue and Trevor into our Barchester family recently.
Sue joined us for a short stay and today, we were delighted to see the couple reunited once again. The smiles on their faces said it all, they are still as happy together as the day they first met.
Their beautiful story began back in 1968, when 16-year-old Sue was on holiday with her family at Trevor’s parents’ B&B in West Wales. It was, as Trevor fondly says, “love at first sight.” Just a year later, in 1969, the same year man first landed on the moon, they were engaged! Three and a half years after that, in 1973, they married, beginning a lifetime of love and devotion.
Now, more than six decades later, their bond remains as strong as ever.
We are honoured to have shared a small part of Sue and Trevor’s wonderful journey, and we look forward to welcoming them both again soon. Here’s to a love that has truly stood the test of time.

'The Port Manor Plodders'

'The Port Manor Plodders'

Our residents here at Port Manor recently suggested they start a walking club. It wasn't long before they had decided on a name and become 'The Port Manor Plodders'!
With the brisk winds we have had this week the Plodders chose to stay close and walked around the gardens of the home. They stopped every now and then to discuss their plans for the garden and of course pick some herbs from the raised beds. 🌱
We love getting out in the fresh air, stretching our legs and getting our bodies moving!
Festive Fun at Port Manor!

Festive Fun at Port Manor!

Today, our wonderful residents continued to sprinkle Christmas magic throughout Port Manor as they got fully involved in the festive preparations!
They were creating gorgeous Christmas pom pom decorations by painting pine cones and crafting with wool, cardboard and other natural materials, they truly went to town!  Their creativity, laughter and determination shines through as they work hard to make Port Manor’s very first Christmas a truly unforgettable one.
There’s a real buzz of excitement in the home now as everyone busies themselves for the run-up to Christmas, making sure we’re all set for a truly special Barchester celebration.
Well done, everyone the spirit of Christmas is well and truly alive at Port Manor!
A Little Pampering at Port Manor

A Little Pampering at Port Manor

This afternoon, our lovely and talented Lori treated our residents to a relaxing pamper session in our salon — and what a heart-warming success it was!
With gentle care, warm conversation, and her wonderful creative touch, Lori offered calming manicures that left our residents feeling valued, uplifted and truly special. The salon was filled with smiles, laughter, and those meaningful moments of connection that reflect everything we value here at Port Manor.
As you can see, the session was incredibly popular, the residents really enjoyed it, and the finished nails were beautiful.
A huge thank you to Lori for bringing so much joy, comfort, and confidence to our community today. Moments like this capture the spirit of Barchester’s values: respect for individuality, passion for wellbeing, and heartfelt dedication to enriching the lives of those we care for.
 Pumpkin Pandemonium at Port Manor!

Pumpkin Pandemonium at Port Manor!

What a fang-tastic afternoon we had today carving pumpkins here at Port Manor Care Home! Our brilliant staff (and their little monsters ) joined forces with our residents to create some truly boo-tiful lanterns.
There was plenty of laughter, a sprinkle of mischief, and lots of pumpkin flesh flying around — all under the watchful eyes of our residents, who made sure every lantern was up to spooky standards!
Now we’re ready for a night of trick or treating… hopefully all treats for our lovely residents!

Demelza even serenaded our Therapy Dog Harley with a rendition of "How much is that doggy in the window" Big cheers, smiles and wagging tails all round!

A visit from Teddy

A visit from Teddy

Here at Port Manor we had a lovely surprise visit from Teddy the gorgeous Peke-a-chon.
Mary thoroughly enjoyed her Monday morning cuddles and we know for certain that Teddy did after being slipped a biscuit or two.
