Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Kings Birthday Celebrations

Never known to miss a chance for a celebration, The Maple Leaf Lodge and Newton House Care Home in Grantham marked the King’s birthday on November 14th with a right royal musical extravaganza!

Inspired by the Kings Coronation Concert last summer, the Residents took part in an afternoon of royally approved song and dance before enjoying some very British tea and cake.

We were delighted to welcome our special guests the Grantham U3A Guitar Club led by Graham Wellham. Our homes were also delighted to welcome back, home favourite singer KJ and the Cat!

Autumn Fair

Our residents and colleagues at Barchester’s Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home, in Grantham celebrated Autumn and Halloween with an Autumn Fair by hosting a day of community themed fun, activity and song.

Residents at Maple Leaf Lodge enjoyed attending the fair with their friends, family and members of the local community.  The fair featured a mulled cider stall, tombola, cake bake sale and musical entertainment courtesy of Sue Tinkler.

Halloween Creativity

Residents on our Kensington community have been busy meeting their creative needs by flower arranging inside a pumpkin to display around the home.

Not only did our fabulous ladies have fun but flowers also have been shown to have a positive impact on mental and physical well-being, and the act of creating something can be therapeutic and uplifting.

Our ladies discussed their favourite flowers and all agreed that they’re all beautiful but roses were everyone’s favourite.

Baking club

Residents gathered together today to make some delicious chocolate brownies and cinnamon cookies in our weekly baking club.

Residents weighed out all the ingredients and mixed them up. Resident Sylvia told us how baking use to be one of her favourite things to do and she used to love when the kitchen filled with a delicious smell. While waiting we sang wartime classics and enjoyed a cup of tea. Afterwards we enjoyed the brownie with some cream.

Our baking club brings so much joy to our residents and sparks old memories from when they use to bake.

Intergenerational Halloween party

Residents got themselves dressed up in Halloween accessories as we waited for our wonderful friends from Dancing Daffodils to join us this morning in their amazing costumes for a spooky Halloween party with arts and crafts.

Children and the residents have been busy painting pumpkins, making Halloween sand bottles and painting wooden decorations. We have all had so much fun and it has been lovely to see different generations enjoy crafts together. Resident Peggy said “I have had a lovely morning and really enjoyed myself”

Resident Sylvia made goodie bags for the children full of sweet treats and Halloween toys, which resident Liz handed out.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Maple Leaf Lodge care home in Grantham marked Breast Cancer Awareness Month which is taking place throughout October.

Sadly, we all know someone affected by breast cancer - over 55,000 people are diagnosed with the disease each year.  October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, a chance for people to Wear It Pink, get involved in raising funds and find out more about how to check themselves and what to do if they find any symptoms of breast cancer.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, staff and residents at the Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home spent time coming together to raise funds by wearing it pink, holding a pink-themed bake sale, pink raffle, creating, decorating the home pink and holding a tea party. Everyone enjoyed getting involved and showing their support.
