Activities at Bayleaf Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Celebrating life at Bayleaf Care Home

Flower Arranging at Bayleaf

Flower Arranging at Bayleaf

We have been at our creative best at Bayleaf today as we sat in the bistro lounge and did some very special flower arranging.

Margaret and Sue were very keen to make sure that their creations were as perfect as can be and they certainly did not disappoint.

We now have some beautiful floral displays throughout the home for everybody to see.
Fiesta Time at Bayleaf

Fiesta Time at Bayleaf

We had a great afternoon yesterday as we celebrated the Mexican festival Día de la Bandera "Flag Day".

Día de la Bandera "Flag Day" is a national holiday in Mexico dedicated to the flag of Mexico and the residents enjoyed decorating the lounge with Mexican Flags whilst the staff dressed up in traditional Mexican outfits.

Our resident Mike took great pleasure in showing pictures of himself back in the late 1950's wearing a Mexican Sombrero and telling us stories of his global travels from his military days.

It was another memorable afternoon here at Bayleaf filled with fun and laughter.

John's trip to the Cathedral

John's trip to the Cathedral

Our resident John recently told us that he would like to have a look around Peterborough Cathedral so yesterday we got up nice and early and set off for Peterborough.

The cathedral was amazing and we spent all morning looking around hundreds of years of history in the grand old cathedral with it's amazing stained-glass windows and the beautifully sculptured walls and ceilings.

John had a lovely time and couldn't wait to tell everybody about his day when he arrived back at Bayleaf.
Pancake Day at Bayleaf

Pancake Day at Bayleaf

We've had a flippin' amazing afternoon at Bayleaf making (and tossing) pancakes to celebrate Pancake Day.

Head Chef Stephane sat with the residents and helped them create the perfect mixture ready to be cooked.

Once the pancakes were ready all of the residents, along with our manager Katie, had a go at tossing their pancakes before we added our favourite toppings and feasted on our extra special creations.

The laughter filled the room as much as the pancakes filled our tummies!!
Valentines Day preparations

Valentines Day preparations

Love is very much in the air at Bayleaf as we prepare for Valentines Day.

We have been making decorations which are now on display throughout the home and our head chef, Stephane, has been spending time with the residents helping them make some very special Valentines Love Heart biscuits
World Book Day

World Book Day

We have had a lovely intergenerational time at Bayleaf as we were joined by St John's CE Primary School, Huntingdon for an extra special storytelling afternoon to celebrate World Book Day.

The residents listened intently as the pupils shared their favourite stories before they shared some of their own stories with the children.

We finished the afternoon with freshly prepared refreshments and then the children said their goodbyes before heading back to the school.

A memorable afternoon and we cannot wait to welcome the school back to Bayleaf in the very near future.
Happy Birthday Margaret

Happy Birthday Margaret

Birthdays are magical days and it is always a huge privilege when we get to share our residents' birthday with them.

Today is Margaret's special day and we surprised her during her lunch when we presented her with a specially made Birthday Cake and a present. All of our other residents joined us to sing 'Happy Birthday' to Margaret as she blew out her candles and cut the cake.

Happy Birthday Margaret. We hope your day has been as amazing as you are.

Animal Magic at Bayleaf

Animal Magic at Bayleaf

We spent a wonderful morning with Michelle's Animal Therapy & Petting Party where we got to spend some time with the most adorable cats, dogs, rabbits, gerbils and even a tortoise.

Our residents were absolutely transfixed with the animals and all took turns in carefully holding the animals.

There is something so therapeutic about animals and it is always very well received when we receive these visits.

An intergenerational Valentines Day

An intergenerational Valentines Day

We had some very special visitors to the home on Friday as we were joined by staff and pupils from St John's CE Primary School, Huntingdon to help our residents decorate our Valentines biscuits.

There was a lot of fun and laughter (and maybe a little bit of a mess) and we all got creative with our designs. There was also time at the end for the residents and pupils to read some stories together before our friends headed off back to the school.

We love the intergenerational activities that we host at the home and very much look forward to seeing St Johns back at Bayleaf very soon.
A day out in Ramsey

A day out in Ramsey

We had a lovely, If a little chilly, morning as we took a trip over to Ramsey Pavilion for their Memory Support Group.

We then went on to visit the local church, which had some beautiful displays of crocheted and knitted flowers.

Freda enjoyed sitting in the church and talking about the different stained glass windows while John enjoyed having a good walk around.

We also took a drive past Ramsey Gatehouse and the Abbey, which was very pleasing for John as he is very interested in the history.

We look forward to our next adventure!!

A trip to Hinchingbrooke Country Park

A trip to Hinchingbrooke Country Park

We are very fortunate to have a lot of areas of natural beauty and yesterday we ventured out and had a lovely time at Hinchingbrooke Country Park.

John and Andy were eager to explore as much of the park as possible and when they had seen everything that they wanted to they enjoyed a hot drink and snack in the cafe before heading back to the home to share stories with the other residents.
A Chocoholic Afternoon

A Chocoholic Afternoon

We had the rarest of occurrences yesterday.........the sun was out ☀️☀️

Sue and Maureen asked us if we would be able to take them out to have a look at the Hotel Chocolat Factory Outlet so we got our jackets and and took the short walk.

The ladies had a lovely time looking around and choosing their treats before we headed back to the home. On the way back we had another little surprise as Mark, our Gardener, spotted a little Caterpillar and we just had to stop and get a couple of pictures.
A memorable outing with the Lambs

A memorable outing with the Lambs

Despite yesterday being a chilly and overcast day it did not stop us having a wonderful outing as we visited Johnsons of Old Hurst to see the ewes and their baby lambs.

The residents were absolutely transfixed with the lambs and could not believe how well they behaved. We were also given the chance to feed the ewes which Freda and Joyce happily accepted.

A magical morning and an amazing experience once again for our residents.

The simple things in life

The simple things in life

Sometimes it's the most simple things that can bring the most joy!!

All Freda and Joyce needed were some ping-pong balls and a few cups to have an afternoon of light-hearted fun and games. They were both giggling together as they tried to get the balls into the cups and the staff had just as much fun watching them.

Once they had finished they enjoyed a well-earned cup of tea with a slice of cake.
Happy Birthday Sue

Happy Birthday Sue

We had a very special day at Bayleaf as we celebrated the Birthday of our amazing resident, Sue.

Chef made Sue an extra indulgent cake and the staff and other residents joined Sue for lunch where we all sang Happy Birthday and made a fuss of Sue on her big day.

Birthdays are always a special day at Bayleaf and today was no different.

Happy Birthday Sue. We hope your day was as amazing as you are!!!
