Activities at Bayleaf Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Celebrating life at Bayleaf Care Home

Our amazing flower-ladies

Our amazing flower-ladies

Anybody who has visited Bayleaf will know that we’re always lucky enough to have the most beautiful floral bouquets on display.

What you may not know is that these stunning arrangements are lovingly created by our talented residents. Yesterday, it was Freda and Doreen’s turn to showcase their wonderful skills.

Together, the ladies carefully selected flowers that complemented each other perfectly, creating truly beautiful displays.

We’re sure you’ll agree the next time you visit Bayleaf!

A huge thank you to Freda and Doreen for sharing your creativity and talent with us. We are so proud of you both. ❤️
A visit from the Library

A visit from the Library

This morning we were delighted to welcome Pam Goodwin from Cambridgeshire Libraries, who gave an informal and engaging presentation about how the library supports people living with dementia.

Pam brought along a wonderful selection of arts and crafts, dementia-friendly jigsaw puzzles, and an amazing memory box. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed exploring the items, sharing memories, and reminiscing together.

We love providing opportunities like these for our residents, their families, and our local community, and today’s session was another fantastic success.

A huge thank you to Pam for such an enjoyable and meaningful morning. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.
Making our own aquariums

Making our own aquariums

Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome our friends from William Peacock and Sons for an afternoon of creativity as we made our very own Bayleaf aquariums.

Each resident had their own jar and, after a demonstration, enjoyed creating their own unique masterpiece. The finished aquariums will now be displayed around the home for everyone to admire.

A huge thank you to everyone at William Peacock and Sons for spending the afternoon with us. We all had a fantastic time and really appreciate your continued support!!
Freda's wish comes true

Freda's wish comes true

As part of Freda's 102nd birthday celebrations, we had one final surprise up our sleeves...

Freda had recently been chatting to one of her daughters about her father, who was a firefighter, and told her she would love to visit a fire station and see the fire engines.

After a few emails, we were absolutely delighted to make that wish come true.

Yesterday, Freda and her daughters were welcomed to Huntingdon Community Fire & Rescue Station where the firefighters gave them a fantastic tour of the station and the fire engines. Freda also had the chance to have her photo taken with the crew and proudly shared some incredible original photographs of her father serving on the horse-drawn fire engines of his day.

Watching Freda talk about her father with such love and pride was incredibly special. It was a beautiful reminder that some memories never fade, no matter how many years have passed.

A huge thank you to everyone at Huntingdon Fire Station for giving Freda and her family such a warm welcome and helping create another unforgettable memory as part of her 102nd birthday celebrations. Your kindness and generosity meant the world to them. ❤️
A special visit

A special visit

We were delighted to welcome a very special visitor to Bayleaf yesterday as we hosted Barchester Healthcare’s Chief Operating Officer, Natasha Lazovic.

It was Natasha’s first visit to Bayleaf since we opened, making it the perfect opportunity for our General Manager, Katie, to showcase everything that makes our home so special.

Joined by our Senior Regional Director, Margery, Natasha spent time chatting with our wonderful residents and their families before enjoying a delicious afternoon tea, lovingly prepared by our talented Head Chef, Stephane.

It was a fantastic afternoon and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the warm, welcoming community we’ve created at Bayleaf. A big thank you to Natasha for taking the time to visit us – we hope to welcome you back again soon!
Cash hits the Jackpot

Cash hits the Jackpot

Music has always been, and always will be, at the very heart of everything we do here at Bayleaf.

Our residents always respond so positively whenever we welcome a musician into the home, but today may just have been one of the very best performances we’ve ever had!

The phenomenal Cash arrived with nothing more than his guitar and a passion for giving our residents an unforgettable afternoon—and he certainly delivered.

The room was filled with singing, laughter and dancing as our residents took to the floor, just as they would have done in the grand ballrooms of years gone by. Moments like these create memories that will stay with us for a long time.

A huge thank you, Cash. We can’t wait to welcome you back again soon! 🎸🎶💙
Friday Fitness Club

Friday Fitness Club

It’s Friday, so that can only mean one thing… FRIDAY FITNESS CLUB!!

This week, we were delighted to welcome One Leisure Huntingdon, who led a fantastic morning of chair exercises, stretches and fun games. Our residents absolutely loved every minute.

These sessions are so beneficial for both physical and mental wellbeing, and seeing the smiles, laughter and enjoyment on everyone’s faces makes it all so worthwhile.

A huge thank you to One Leisure for another brilliant session – we can’t wait for the next one!!
St Ives Dementia Group Coffee Morning

St Ives Dementia Group Coffee Morning

We had a lovely morning as we took a short minibus trip into St Ives to join our friends at the St Ives Dementia Group for their coffee morning.

We were in for a wonderful surprise on arrival, as a local ukulele band treated everyone to a fantastic selection of classic songs. Our residents, along with everyone else attending, sang along enthusiastically, creating a truly joyful atmosphere.

It was a beautiful morning filled with music, laughter, and great company. A huge thank you to the St Ives Dementia Group for inviting us—we always enjoy spending time together and are already looking forward to seeing everyone again next month!
Freda's special day

Freda's special day

Yesterday was one of the most special and memorable days we’ve shared since opening as we celebrated our incredible Freda on her 102nd birthday.

Surrounded by her loving family, Freda enjoyed a beautiful birthday lunch before we all came together to sing Happy Birthday as she blew out the candles on her specially made birthday cake. It was a truly heartwarming moment that we’ll all treasure.

Happy 102nd Birthday, Freda. What an extraordinary milestone for an extraordinary lady. Your kindness, warmth and wonderful spirit bring so much joy to everyone around you, and we feel incredibly privileged to have you as such a treasured member of the Bayleaf family.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey and for sharing this very special day with us. Here’s to you, Freda—you are an inspiration to us all. 🥂💐
Get Barchester Moving

Get Barchester Moving

This week is Get Barchester Moving Week, and when we asked our residents how they’d like to get involved, they all agreed that an indoor Sports Day was the perfect way to do our bit!

With the temperatures soaring, it was simply too hot to be outside, so we made the most of our lovely air-conditioned bistro café and let the games begin!

Residents enjoyed a fantastic variety of events, including an egg and spoon race, target games, and plenty of friendly challenges that saw residents go head-to-head with our staff.

There was lots of laughter, a little healthy competition, and plenty of team spirit throughout the day. Most importantly, everyone had a wonderful time, proving that staying active can be fun at any age!!

Garden Club goes on the Road

Garden Club goes on the Road

We took Garden Club on the road today with a lovely outing to Godmanchester Community Plant Nursery & Cafe.

Our residents had a wonderful time exploring the beautiful displays, carefully choosing the perfect new plants to brighten up our gardens. There were plenty of smiles, conversations, and inspiration as everyone admired the colourful selection.

Now we’re back at Bayleaf, and our gardener, Mark, has been busy planting our latest additions into the already picture-perfect gardens that we’re so proud of. We can’t wait to watch everything flourish over the coming weeks!

A big thank you to Godmanchester Community Plant Nursery for such a lovely visit.
Two homes, one amazing afternoon

Two homes, one amazing afternoon

Some of our favourite activities at Bayleaf are the ones we get to spend with our friends from our sister homes, and today we were delighted to welcome our wonderful friends from Hilton Park once again.

It was lovely to see everyone sitting together, chatting, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company. The relaxed atmosphere soon turned into one of friendly competition when our quiz began, with everyone eager to put their knowledge to the test!

After all the excitement, we enjoyed a well-earned hot drink and some tasty snacks before saying our goodbyes as our Hilton Park friends headed back to Bottisham.

A big thank you for visiting us today. We always enjoy spending time together and can’t wait to welcome you back again soon.
A trip to the Seaside

A trip to the Seaside

Today we enjoyed a lovely little road trip with our residents to Hunstanton Beach!

The weather was absolutely glorious as we left Bayleaf, armed with plenty of tasty snacks, buckets and spades, and lots of sunscreen.

Once we arrived, we enjoyed a stroll along the seafront, stopping for a delicious ice cream before continuing our tradition of fish and chips. To round off the day, we headed into the arcade for some fun on the penny machines.

We’ve had such an amazing day, making wonderful memories together!
Sunday Service

Sunday Service

We had a wonderful outing with our residents yesterday as we made the short trip to All Saints Church in Huntingdon for the Sunday service.

Following the service, we stayed to enjoy refreshments and spent some time relaxing in the warm summer sunshine. It was a lovely opportunity to socialise and enjoy being part of the local community.

Supporting our residents to practise their faith is incredibly important to us, and we are grateful to everyone at All Saints Church for such a warm and welcoming reception.

Thank you for your kindness and hospitality.
An afternoon with 'Basha'

An afternoon with 'Basha'

Yesterday, we shared one of the most memorable moments with our resident, John, as we took him on a special trip to our local garden centre.

John is one of the newest members of our dementia community. A proud and distinguished military man, he asked us to call him by his military nickname, ‘Basha’—a name that reflects the strength and pride he carries with him.

Like many people moving into residential care, Basha’s transition has been an emotional journey for both him and those who care about him. Over the past few weeks, however, we’ve started to see something truly special—a sparkle returning to his eyes and a smile that says more than words ever could.

Yesterday, that smile shone brightly. Basha delighted in feeding the fish in the aquarium, laughed as he tried on different hats in the shop, and took his time admiring the beautiful plants and flowers.

It may have seemed like a simple outing, but for Basha it represented so much more. It was a moment of joy, connection, and confidence as he continues his new chapter with all of us at Bayleaf.

It’s a day we’ll always remember, and we’re so grateful to have shared it with him.
