Activities at Bayleaf Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Celebrating life at Bayleaf Care Home

A new adventure

A new adventure

We always love finding new places for our residents to visit so yesterday we visited Godmanchester Community Plant Nursery & Cafe for the first time and we were not disappointed.

The residents had a great time looking at all of the different plants and flowers before heading over to the café for a hot drink and a snack.

Days out are such an important part of life at Bayleaf and we very much look forward our next big adventure.
Unforgettable Furry Friends

Unforgettable Furry Friends

We had a brilliant afternoon with our residents for our 'Name the Breed' quiz. Although a few of the residents started off thinking that they were not dog experts, almost everybody got more than half of the breeds right!!

The quiz was about so much more than just breeds of dog; it was a lovely trip down memory lane. It was wonderful to see residents scrolling through their phones to share photos of their own dogs and tell stories about their favourite childhood pets.
Classic Car Show

Classic Car Show

We received a very special invite from our friends at Hilton Park Care Home to join them on Saturday at their popular Classic Car Show.

The weather was beautiful and our residents had a lovely afternoon looking at the amazing array of cars but more importantly spending valuable time with their friends from Hilton Park.

A big thank you to Jenny and the team at Hilton for the invite and for making us feel so welcome. We look forward to inviting you to Bayleaf in the very near future.
Our creative ladies

Our creative ladies

It was a little bit chillier this morning so we decided that rather than having our regular Garden Club, we would stay inside and do some flower arranging instead.

Margaret and Freda were very keen and took to the task with some amazing skill and creativity and the end result was a number of beautiful floral arrangements.

Both ladies were only too happy to pose with their bouquets before finishing with a lovely cup of tea and slice of homemade cake.

Parkinson's Awareness Presentation

Parkinson's Awareness Presentation

We were very pleased to be joined by Beth Condie from Parkinson's UK who gave an excellent presentation on Parkinson's Awareness.

Whilst Beth was with us we were able to present her with the cheque for the money that our amazing team at Bayleaf raised by doing the 5k inflatable run at Huntingdon Racecourse on April 11th.

Parkinson's UK is an amazing charity that offers so many levels of support and we are very proud to have an association with such a worthwhile cause.
Variety is the Spice of Life

Variety is the Spice of Life

We have had a couple of very busy days here at Bayleaf as we head towards a sun-filled Bank Holiday weekend.

We were joined by the brilliant Boots 'n' Strings for an afternoon full of singing and dancing that was enjoyed by all.

The residents have also been very active thanks to Seated Zumba courtesy of Debs Zumba Huntingdon alongside fitness sessions from Sam at Fitness Rush and also One Leisure Huntingdon.

Variety is the Spice of Life and that is certainly the case here at Bayleaf.
Pets Corner

Pets Corner

We were very excited to be joined again by Michelle's Animal Therapy & Petting Party for an afternoon of fluffy cuteness!!

The residents waited patiently to get their turn to spend time with each of the animals and were only too happy to pose for some beautiful pictures.

We always love seeing the residents with the animals and there are always so many stories that follow these visits.

Thank you Michelle. We will see you again at Bayleaf very soon.

VE Day Celebrations

VE Day Celebrations

Our VE Day celebrations have been in full swing at Bayleaf.

The residents all came together in the lounge to watch the Mountbatten Festival of Music courtesy of The Bands of HM Royal Marines before going into the garden to be entertained by the brilliant Steve Jay who sang a collection of songs from yesteryear which had the residents singing and dancing.

There has been a huge amount of effort from our residents to decorate the home with Union Jack bunting and Red, White and Blue balloons and there is an enormous feeling of national pride throughout the home.

It is an amazing sight to see and we are incredibly proud.
Roy's Special Lunch

Roy's Special Lunch

We recently held a very special lunch in our private dining lounge for one of our residents, Roy, and his family.

Our Chef, Stephane, prepared a delicious Beef Brisket for everybody and as the sun was shining Roy and his family were able to dine on the balcony overlooking the allotments.

Roy's Great-Grandchildren also enjoyed the cinema room and were able to watch some of their favourite Disney.

It was such a lovely occasion and Roy was so proud to be hosting the event at his new home.
Thanks for everything, Rakesh

Thanks for everything, Rakesh

So the day that we were not looking forward to has arrived. We have said a fond farewell to our brilliant second chef, Rakesh, who has sadly left Bayleaf to move closer to his young family.

Since joining the Bayleaf team Rakesh has been a very popular member of staff who has played a big part in providing our residents with amazing meals whilst always making time in his busy day to sit and talk with the residents and their families.

The staff and residents were all keen to see Rakesh on his final day to wish him all the very best in his new adventure.

Thank you Rakesh. You have been a credit to Bayleaf and a credit to yourself.
An Afternoon on the River

An Afternoon on the River

Freda and Roy had a lovely afternoon yesterday as we joined our friends from Hilton Park Care Home for a lovely boat trip along the Great River Ouse.

The weather was a bit too chilly to be outside for long but everybody enjoyed the picturesque scenery and the wildlife nonetheless and there was the added treat of a little onboard picnic for the residents.

Both Freda and Roy had a lovely time and couldn't wait to tell everybody about it when they arrived back at Bayleaf.

Thank you to Hilton Park for sharing your afternoon with us.
The simple life

The simple life

We've had a very showery day today at Bayleaf but that hasn't stopped the residents keeping busy.

We had a visit from the hairdresser this morning for a little bit of well deserved pampering, a general knowledge quiz which both of our Margaret's thoroughly enjoyed, Freda sat in the lounge watching TV with Clive and Ted had a lovely time doing some people watching from Memory Lane lounge.

Sometimes it is the smallest things that have the biggest impact and that has definitely been the case today.
Keep Fit with Liam

Keep Fit with Liam

Our residents have been put through their paces this morning with an energetic exercise session with Liam Rushmer PT.

We started with the exercise bike and then moved onto resistance training with the elastic stretch bands before finishing off with some light-hearted seated football and seated balloon tennis.

The residents absolutely love these sessions and Liam is brilliant with each and every resident.

Thanks Liam. See you soon!!!
A river cruise to remember

A river cruise to remember

We had a truly stunning day yesterday as we took the residents out on a river cruise along the Great River Ouse.

It was an early start for our residents but it was definitely worth it. The sun was shining and spirits were high as we arrived. Once aboard the residents took their place on the boat and enjoyed the amazing views and the wildlife. There were lots of stories told about past river trips and even more laughter amongst the residents and staff.

We were then treated to a Fish and Chip lunch aboard the boat before we got back onto the minibus to head home full of memories from our special day.
An impromptu BBQ

An impromptu BBQ

We do love a bit of spontaneity here at Bayleaf so when the residents said it was BBQ weather, our brilliant Head Chef Stephane made it happen!!

Once we had arranged the outdoor tables and set them up for dinner the residents took their seats and were treated to an amazing array of meats and salad along with some refreshing cold drinks.

Tummies were soon full and that's when the stories and the laughter started. We love listening to our residents' stories and this was no different. It was the perfect way to end an impromptu lunchtime.
