Activities at Bayleaf Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

A blooming lovely afternoon

A blooming lovely afternoon

With the weather being so unpredictable lately, our Activities Team have been showing just how creative they are at keeping residents engaged, active, and having fun.

Today, we enjoyed an impromptu flower-arranging session, which was a huge hit with everyone involved. Freda and Margaret especially loved getting creative, and the results were absolutely stunning.

The home is now filled with beautiful bouquets, bringing colour and cheer to every room. The ladies are incredibly proud of their creations – and so they should be!

A wonderful afternoon of creativity, conversation, and smiles all around.
Fitness Friday

Fitness Friday

It's Friday and that can only mean one thing..............FITNESS CLUB!!!!

We had no Fitness Rush Community today but that did not stop the residents from taking part in lots of different stretching exercises before taking part in some fun ball games to test the hand-eye co-ordination.

There was lots of laughter throughout the group and we finished off with a well-earned hot drink accompanied with freshly baked pastries.

Our exercise are so important for the residents and the group is getting bigger with every week.
A trip to Peterborough Cathedral

A trip to Peterborough Cathedral

We have been making the most of the glorious weather and our latest daytrip took us to Peterborough to have a look around the stunning cathedral.

Armed with plenty of refreshments and even more sunscreen, we set off early to avoid the bank holiday traffic and the heat.

Once we had arrived we looked around the grounds before taking our time to look inside at hundreds of years of history before heading back to the home full of new memories.

Variety is the Spice of Life

Variety is the Spice of Life

We have had a couple of very busy days here at Bayleaf as we head towards a sun-filled Bank Holiday weekend.

We were joined by the brilliant Boots 'n' Strings for an afternoon full of singing and dancing that was enjoyed by all.

The residents have also been very active thanks to Seated Zumba courtesy of Debs Zumba Huntingdon alongside fitness sessions from Sam at Fitness Rush and also One Leisure Huntingdon.

Variety is the Spice of Life and that is certainly the case here at Bayleaf.
Pets Corner

Pets Corner

We were very excited to be joined again by Michelle's Animal Therapy & Petting Party for an afternoon of fluffy cuteness!!

The residents waited patiently to get their turn to spend time with each of the animals and were only too happy to pose for some beautiful pictures.

We always love seeing the residents with the animals and there are always so many stories that follow these visits.

Thank you Michelle. We will see you again at Bayleaf very soon.

John the Chess-Master

John the Chess-Master

John, our resident chess enthusiast, always enjoys spending time with different members of staff, teaching them how to play.

Today, it was the turn of our Activities Lead, Courtney, to put his skills to the test. The pair enjoyed a wonderful game together, with the match proving to be a very close contest right to the end.

It was a fantastic way to spend the morning and a great example of the enjoyable connections made every day.
A special visitor

A special visitor

The residents were treated to a very special visitor yesterday as we were joined by Lottie the Cockapoo.

Lottie spent the entire day at Bayleaf and by the end of the day had spent time with every single resident and was thoroughly spoilt by residents and staff alike.

Our frequent animal interactions at the home are a big part of who we are and we very much look forward to welcoming Lottie back to Bayleaf.
The formula for success

The formula for success

There was a Formula 1 feel about Bayleaf on Sunday as we came together for the Canadian Grand Prix.

The residents sat in the F1 themed garden enjoying the fabulous weather whilst enjoying some lovely cold refreshments and freshly baked cupcakes before watching the Grand Prix in the cinema room.

We also took the opportunity to wish our fabulous Senior Carer, Sally, a happy birthday with a birthday cake and a resident-led rendition of Happy Birthday!!
An Afternoon on the River

An Afternoon on the River

Freda and Roy had a lovely afternoon yesterday as we joined our friends from Hilton Park Care Home for a lovely boat trip along the Great River Ouse.

The weather was a bit too chilly to be outside for long but everybody enjoyed the picturesque scenery and the wildlife nonetheless and there was the added treat of a little onboard picnic for the residents.

Both Freda and Roy had a lovely time and couldn't wait to tell everybody about it when they arrived back at Bayleaf.

Thank you to Hilton Park for sharing your afternoon with us.
The simple life

The simple life

We've had a very showery day today at Bayleaf but that hasn't stopped the residents keeping busy.

We had a visit from the hairdresser this morning for a little bit of well deserved pampering, a general knowledge quiz which both of our Margaret's thoroughly enjoyed, Freda sat in the lounge watching TV with Clive and Ted had a lovely time doing some people watching from Memory Lane lounge.

Sometimes it is the smallest things that have the biggest impact and that has definitely been the case today.
Seated Zumba with a Twist

Seated Zumba with a Twist

We had our weekly seated Zumba class yesterday but this week there was a little bit of a twist.............our chef made some time in the morning to make the most stunning of cakes and brought it out just in time for the end of the Zumba class.

Safe to say that it went down very well.

Nothing like a tasty home made treat after a fun-filled session!!!!
Afternoon Tea for Two

Afternoon Tea for Two

We were very pleased to be joined this afternoon by the latest winner of our Afternoon Tea for Two competition.

After coming to reception to proudly announce that he was a winner, George sat down with his Dad, Guy, to enjoy a fantastic spread of sandwiches, pastries, cakes and desserts courtesy of our head chef, Stephane.

Congratulations to you George. We hope you enjoyed your prize!!
A new adventure

A new adventure

We always love finding new places for our residents to visit so yesterday we visited Godmanchester Community Plant Nursery & Cafe for the first time and we were not disappointed.

The residents had a great time looking at all of the different plants and flowers before heading over to the café for a hot drink and a snack.

Days out are such an important part of life at Bayleaf and we very much look forward our next big adventure.
Unforgettable Furry Friends

Unforgettable Furry Friends

We had a brilliant afternoon with our residents for our 'Name the Breed' quiz. Although a few of the residents started off thinking that they were not dog experts, almost everybody got more than half of the breeds right!!

The quiz was about so much more than just breeds of dog; it was a lovely trip down memory lane. It was wonderful to see residents scrolling through their phones to share photos of their own dogs and tell stories about their favourite childhood pets.
Classic Car Show

Classic Car Show

We received a very special invite from our friends at Hilton Park Care Home to join them on Saturday at their popular Classic Car Show.

The weather was beautiful and our residents had a lovely afternoon looking at the amazing array of cars but more importantly spending valuable time with their friends from Hilton Park.

A big thank you to Jenny and the team at Hilton for the invite and for making us feel so welcome. We look forward to inviting you to Bayleaf in the very near future.
