Activities at Bayleaf Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

A day out in Ramsey

We had a lovely, If a little chilly, morning as we took a trip over to Ramsey Pavilion for their Memory Support Group.

We then went on to visit the local church, which had some beautiful displays of crocheted and knitted flowers.

Freda enjoyed sitting in the church and talking about the different stained glass windows while John enjoyed having a good walk around.

We also took a drive past Ramsey Gatehouse and the Abbey, which was very pleasing for John as he is very interested in the history.

We look forward to our next adventure!!

Coffee and Cake at Starbucks

Today our residents fancied a little change of scenery so we all boarded the minibus and popped into Starbucks for a cosy coffee break.

From cappuccino to hot chocolate and cookie to muffin, everyone enjoyed their drink and snack of choice while chatting and soaking up the atmosphere, it was a relaxing and uplifting outing for all

Moments like these make all the difference.

Freda's Memorable Afternoon

We had an absolutely lovely afternoon yesterday as we took a trip over to see our friends at Hilton Park Care Home.

We were invited to visit them as they being visited by Evie’s Owls and wanted us to be a part of it. Freda was incredibly excited when she heard about the visit, and was fascinated by the two beautiful birds: a Barn Owl named Sarah and a Bolivian Chaco Owl named Chico.

Freda then listened to an engaging talk about the birds before enjoying the unique experience of stroking them and feeling their soft feathers.

It was a truly wonderful afternoon and we are very grateful to Hilton Park for their generosity. We look forward to returning the favour very soon.

Retail Therapy

There's nothing like a little bit of retail therapy to soothe the mind so when Freda and Mary said that they would like to go and have a look around the local supermarket, we were only too happy to oblige.

We had a lovely wander around and after the ladies had bought what they wanted to we headed back to Bayleaf for a coffee and some cake.

Eyes Down and dabbers at the ready

It was Eyes Down at the home on Friday as we were joined by fellow keen dabbers from our local community as we hosted a fun-filled evening of Bingo at the home.

Refreshments were provided upon arrival and then it was eyes down for a full house as our residents and visitors battled it out to find out who would prevail. There were prizes for all of the winners and the evening was a great success with lots of fun and laughter throughout the evening.

We very much look forward to doing this again very soon.

Happy Birthday Sue

We had a very special day at Bayleaf as we celebrated the Birthday of our amazing resident, Sue.

Chef made Sue an extra indulgent cake and the staff and other residents joined Sue for lunch where we all sang Happy Birthday and made a fuss of Sue on her big day.

Birthdays are always a special day at Bayleaf and today was no different.

Happy Birthday Sue. We hope your day was as amazing as you are!!!

Employee of the Month

It's Employee of the Month time and it gives us enormous pleasure to announce that the Bayleaf Employee of the Month is the amazing Lorraine.

Lorraine is the first face you see when you visit Bayleaf and the first voice you hear when you call and we could not ask for a better person to make the best possible first impression for our home.

Thank you Lorraine. We simply wouldn't be the same home without you.

We welcomed a number of new visitors to the home and they, along with our residents and their families, enjoyed everything that Bayleaf has to offer.

We had some amazing home-made cakes and snacks courtesy of our catering team and we were also joined by RAW Theatre Productions for a 'Burns Night' themed afternoon of live music.

Thank you for everybody who worked so hard to make the day come together.

Feed the Birds.......

In preparation for the Big Garden Birdwatch, which is happening at Bayleaf later in the week, our Ladies have been busy making home-made bird food and feeders.

Using a mixture of peanuts, seeds, suet, lard and mealworms we care blended everything together before putting the mixture into the feeders and left them to set.

It was messy work but everybody had a great afternoon and we very much look forward to seeing the different birds as they come to feast!!!

Clive's Bin

We had our regular Fitness Friday with Liam Rushmer PT but this one was a little bit more special than usual as today we were joined by former Professional Footballer, Junior McDougald, who grew up a few hundred yards away from Bayleaf and was here to meet life-long Tottenham Hotspur fan Clive and become the first person to sign 'Clive's Bin'.

Clive's Bin is a wellbeing initiative thought up by Liam aimed at bringing former or current athletes or celebrities to Bayleaf to meet the residents, share memories from their careers and then sign Clive's Bin before nominating the next person to come to the home.

As well as this Junior also joined Freda, John and Clive for a little bit of seated Football and seated Tennis before happily agreeing to have photos with residents and staff alike.

A big thank you to Liam for his initiative and Junior for making our morning such a memorable experience.

Dave the Great Entertainer

Today has been full of singing dancing and laughter as we welcomed a new musician, Dave Parry, to Bayleaf.

All of the residents have thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment, especially Freda who had a little dance with one of our excellent carers.

It is always good to introduce new entertainers to the home and it is safe to say that we will certainly be looking forward to welcoming Dave back to Bayleaf in the near future.

A Musical Journey

This morning we were joined by our friends from Hampton Grove Care Home - Barchester Healthcare for an unforgettable performance from the one and only Musical Journeys.

The residents from both homes were taken on a nostalgic journey through their musical past and there was a lot of singing, dancing and foot-tapping throughout the performance.

It was a memorable morning and we very much look forward to welcoming Musical Journeys back to Bayleaf in the not too distant future.

Cambridgeshire Deaf Association visit Bayleaf

We were joined yesterday by Riley and Lisa from Cambridgeshire Deaf Association for the 'Living Well With Hearing Loss' presentation.

It was a very well delivered and informative presentation which all of the people that were in attendance appreciated. There was a very useful Q&A session at the end and everybody took new information home with them.

We now look forward to welcoming CDA back on Tuesday 27th January for the Hearing Aid Maintenance Clinics, which are being held at Bayleaf and are running from 2pm until 3:30pm.

We had a lovely day out yesterday as we took Freda and Joyce to the Wyton Garden Centre.

Flower Power

Joyce, Margaret and Olivia were busy yesterday afternoon after a delivery of flowers arrived at the home.

They set about coming up with some utterly beautiful floral arrangements, carefully selecting which flowers went together to create their very own works of art.

The end result was a selection of stunning bouquets of flowers which are now placed in resident rooms and in our communal areas for all to see.
