Activities at Bayleaf Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Another busy day at Bayleaf

Another busy day at Bayleaf

It was another action-packed day for our residents yesterday, with plenty of fun, laughter and some lovely time out in the community.

Our Memory Lane community started the morning with a variety of games in the lounge, including ten-pin bowling Connect 4 and some fantastic interactive games on our Memory Tablet. There was plenty of friendly competition along the way.

In the afternoon, we hopped on the minibus and headed to nearby Hemingford to visit the beautiful St Margaret’s Church. The residents were fascinated by the stunning stained-glass windows and each took a turn to light a candle, creating a peaceful and very special moment.

And, of course, no afternoon out would be complete without a little refreshment! We finished our trip with a well-earned drink at the Axe and Compass before heading back home to Bayleaf.

What a wonderful day of games, community, reflection and good company.

A Lovely Trip to the Garden Centre

A Lovely Trip to the Garden Centre

We had a wonderful time heading out to the garden centre with our residents.

There was plenty to see, from beautiful flowers and colourful displays to all the plants, garden goodies and the aquarium.

We loved taking our time wandering around, enjoying the sights and chatting about our own gardens at Bayleaf.

Of course, no trip to the garden centre would be complete without a little refreshment along the way.

It was a lovely day out filled with smiles, memories and a little inspiration for our own gardens.
A trip to the Farm

A trip to the Farm

We had the best afternoon yesterday when we headed off for a visit to Johnsons of Old Hurst.

The residents were absolutely fascinated by all of the wonderful animals and even had the chance to get up close and personal when it was feeding time! There were plenty of smiles, laughs and some very curious faces along the way.

After meeting the animals, we took a trip through the museum, where we discovered an amazing collection of vintage vehicles, memorabilia and relics from yesteryear.

It really was a beautiful trip down memory lane, bringing back lots of wonderful memories and conversations.

A fantastic afternoon enjoyed by everyone — and we’re already looking forward to our next visit!
St Ives Dementia Cafe

St Ives Dementia Cafe

We’ve had another absolutely lovely morning with our friends at St Ives Dementia Cafe.

We were warmly welcomed with hot drinks and delicious homemade cakes before settling down to enjoy some fantastic live entertainment. The songs from yesteryear had everyone singing along — and even had us all up dancing!

These special mornings are always something we look forward to, filled with laughter, music, friendship and wonderful memories.

We already can't wait to see everyone again next month!
Thanking our emergency services

Thanking our emergency services

With the hot weather continuing to put additional pressure on our emergency services, we thought the very least we could do was show our appreciation for the incredible work they do.

With this in mind, our General Manager Katie and Activities Coordinator Courtney made the short trip to Huntingdon Community Fire & Rescue Station armed with a hamper packed with fresh fruit, cold drinks and other snacks.

It may be a small gesture, but it was the very least we could do to say thank you.
We continue to be incredibly grateful to our wonderful emergency services and all they do to keep our communities safe.
Boots 'n' Strings play for the Residents

Boots 'n' Strings play for the Residents

We love nothing more than welcoming live entertainers into the home, and yesterday we were absolutely delighted to be graced by the wonderful Boots 'n' Strings.

Their fantastic mix of songs from yesteryear, alongside some more recent favourites, had our residents up on their feet, singing along and showing off their best dance moves.

But the fun didn’t stop there! Afterwards, Boots ‘n’ Strings took the time to visit some of our residents in their rooms and perform for them too. This was very much appreciated and made the afternoon extra special.

It was an energetic, joyful and truly beautiful afternoon, and we’re already looking forward to welcoming Boots ‘n’ Strings back to Bayleaf very soon!
THE GREAT BAYLEAF SHORTBREAD BAKE-OFF

THE GREAT BAYLEAF SHORTBREAD BAKE-OFF

Things got wonderfully competitive yesterday at Bayleaf kitchen as Margaret and Kath took part in The Great Bayleaf Shortbread Bake-Off.

With hands all clean and rolling pins at the ready, our talented bakers got stuck in—mixing, rolling and cutting their way to what they hoped would be the perfect shortbread.

There was plenty of laughter, a little flour flying around and, of course, the all-important taste testing.

But who baked the winning batch?

One thing is certain: everyone was a winner when there was delicious shortbread to enjoy!

Exciting news........

Exciting news........

We are absolutely delighted and incredibly excited to announce that we have finally secured a plot on the allotments, right next to the home!

Our residents couldn’t wait to head over and have a look and whilst we know there is LOTS of work to do, we simply cannot wait to get started!

We have some really special plans for our new allotment and are looking forward to creating a beautiful space where our residents can enjoy the outdoors, get involved, grow things, make memories and have lots of fun along the way!

This is just the beginning…

Watch this space for regular updates as we transform our little plot into something very special!
A Step Back in Time

A Step Back in Time

We had a lovely day on Saturday at the annual Ramsey 1940s Camp.

Our residents were fascinated by the historic military vehicles and thoroughly engaged with the wartime re-enactments. The live music from the era was another highlight, with everyone tapping their feet and singing along.

It was a beautiful day and a gentle reminder of the importance of remembering the events of the past that helped shape the future.

A wonderful day of memories, music and history. ❤️
National Bowling Day Fun

National Bowling Day Fun

It was National Bowling Day on Saturday, so we brought our residents together for an afternoon of fun, laughter and some light-hearted competition!

We started off with some ten-pin bowling before trying our luck at indoor bowls and cone games. Then things got even more exciting when we brought out the parachute, with everyone seeing just how high they could launch the balls!

It was an afternoon filled with silly fun, plenty of laughter and lots of smiles. We all absolutely loved it!
A lovely morning at St Ives Dementia Cafe

A lovely morning at St Ives Dementia Cafe

We had another absolutely wonderful morning with our friends at the St Ives Dementia Cafe at the Free Church.

Our residents were treated to delicious hot drinks and cakes before the music started — and it certainly didn’t take long before everyone was singing along, tapping their toes and dancing.

We always love our visits to the Cafe. The warm welcome, wonderful company and fantastic atmosphere make these mornings so special.

A huge thank you to everyone who makes it such a lovely place to visit. We’re already looking forward to seeing you all again in October.
Rain or shine, the fun never stops at Bayleaf

Rain or shine, the fun never stops at Bayleaf

After weeks upon weeks of glorious sunshine, we’re finally getting to see some much-needed rain.

But a few rainy days certainly haven’t put a dampener on things here at Bayleaf! We’ve been keeping our residents busy with a fantastic variety of activities.

We’ve been having fun with games on the magic tablet, held our very own in-house ten-pin bowling competition and we’ve enjoyed plenty of ball games with our giant parachute.

It has been such a pleasure watching our residents getting involved, having fun and, most importantly, enjoying themselves.

Whether the sun is shining or the rain is falling, there’s always plenty going on at Bayleaf!

The Great Outdoors

The Great Outdoors

We’ve been taking advantage of the cooler weather by enjoying some lovely days outdoors.

Our residents had a wonderful time visiting Notcutts Garden Centre in Brampton, where they enjoyed looking around at all the beautiful floral arrangements and displays.

When we returned to the home, we were inspired to take a stroll around our own gardens. John was particularly impressed with how well our tomatoes are coming along!
Solar Eclipse

Solar Eclipse

After a 27-year wait since the last solar eclipse, residents at Bayleaf were excited to take part in this once-in-a-generation event.

We spent the morning making our own eclipse viewers and were also fortunate to have some eclipse glasses available. So, when the Moon began its journey across the Sun, we were ready to be amazed—and we certainly weren’t disappointed!

It was an incredible experience, and every resident felt they had been part of a truly special moment in history.
Cruising along the Great River Ouse

Cruising along the Great River Ouse

Whilst we’re in the middle of the summer that just keeps on giving, it seemed only right that we continue to make the most of the sunshine!

With this in mind, our residents were only too happy to spend a lovely afternoon cruising down the Great River Ouse aboard the Ladybird River Cruiser.

We took in all the beautiful sights along the way and enjoyed swapping stories and reminiscing about similar trips from our younger years.

A wonderful afternoon on the water was topped off with the traditional fish and chips before we headed back to Bayleaf, full of happy hearts, full tummies and new memories that will last a lifetime.
