Redditch man to cycle 700 miles for charity

A 61-year-old from Redditch is preparing to embark on a 700-mile cycle challenge in aid of the charities Alzheimer's Research UK and Cancer Research UK.

Elan Homer will start his journey in Santander, Spain and finish up in Brittany, France. It is estimated that the challenge will take 17 days to complete.

Mr Homer will be joined on the adventure by his long-time friend Rob West.

He said he was inspired to take on the journey after reading a book called Downhill All The Way by Edward Enfield, which centres around cycling trips in France.

"Our route will take us through some beautiful scenery, and after all the training we’ve been doing in the last few months, I’m really looking forward to setting off," Mr Homer said.

Parminder Summon, community fundraising manager at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said every £20 the challenge raises will be enough to pay for an extra hour of research, bringing new treatments closer.
