Barchester Healthcare's Newest Care Home in Melbourn Reaches Topping Out Stage
A new care home development in Melbourn celebrated a major construction milestone recently with a topping out ceremony, where the final tile was laid on the roof of the home. The occasion marked the completion of the latest stage of the 75-bed care home, as it enters the final months of construction.
The new home, officially named Melbourn Springs Care Home, has been built by McGoff Construction, and is owned and operated by Barchester Healthcare. The home will provide residential and expert dementia care for the older people in Melbourn and the wider community. The home is set to open its doors to residents for the first time in December 2019.
The luxury new home, located on Hyacinth Drive just off New Road, will feature large dining areas with access to the terrace, relaxing lounges with garden access, life skills kitchens, an activities room with interactive, multi-sensory dementia facilities, a cinema room, en-suite bedrooms, spa bathrooms, an in house hair salon, and Wi-Fi available in all parts of the home.
Andy Williams, the Senior Property Development Manager at Barchester said, “The home is really coming together. The design of the home will not only allow our operational colleagues to provide the best level of care for the residents who live there, but also ensure the residents are able to live dignified lives in surroundings that allow them to be as independent as they choose to be.”
McGoff Construction Manager Ged Rodgers commented: “We were delighted to reach such a significant stage in the build process today. It was a pleasure to share the occasion with our project partners Barchester Healthcare. We look forward to handing over the Marketing Suite in the next few months which will allow finished aspects of the care home to be showcased.”

Melbourn Springs Care Home in Melbourn will open in December 2019 and will deliver personalised residential care as well as expert dementia care in Barchester’s unique Memory Lane Community.
