Barchester staff and residents gear up for Care Home Open Day 2017
On Friday 16th and Saturday 17th June, many Barchester homes will be throwing open their doors and welcoming people from the community to join them for Care Home Open Day celebrations.
From cowboys and Indians to sumo wrestlers, each home’s open day is different but ‘friendship’ is the common theme that links them all.
Care Home Open Day was launched in 2013 and is celebrated by lots of care homes across the country. These free events are open to the public and are a chance for those living at Barchester homes to get to meet their neighbours while offering anyone interested in visiting a home, a chance to find out what life is really like there.
The occasion will be extra special for the Barchester homes taking part as they will also be celebrating Fundraising Week from 12th-18th June. This wonderful week is when staff and residents think up fun ways to raise money for Barchester's Charitable Foundation and other charities and then link this into their open days with raffles and competitions to encourage donations.

Here are a few examples of events happening in our homes:
- Wilsmere House in Harrow are planning a magical afternoon for guests on 16th June, 2-5pm, with a BBQ, magic show and a live singer performing songs from musicals
- Wadhurst Manor in East Sussex are getting all dolled up on 16th June, 1-5pm, for their 50’s themed high tea with cupcakes, Pimms and a 50’s style troupe show from 3.30pm.
- Edgbaston Beaumont in Birmingham are providing fun for the whole family at their event on 17th June, 2-5pm. Expect ‘Boogie Beats’ exercise to music, a delicious BBQ, a funny photo booth and various stalls
Staff will be on hand to speak with anyone wanting to find out more, so as well as being a great community gathering, the open day is also the perfect opportunity to learn more about the home and the care services on offer.
