Activities at Lotus Manor Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Read our brochure ‘Life-enriching activities’ for more information about life in our care homes.

Kristiina Owen
Activities Coordinator
My name is Kristiina Owen and I’ve been leading activities in care homes for over a decade.
I first started as a volunteer and quickly realised how much I loved spending time with residents—so much so that I changed careers to focus on activity provision full-time.
I’m passionate about delivering person-centred activities that reflect each resident’s individual story, interests, and wishes. My approach always begins with getting to know everyone personally—listening to their life histories, learning what brings them joy, and tailoring experiences that truly resonate.
Whether it’s a quiet moment of conversation, a lively group outing, or a creative project, I believe every interaction matters. I love spending time with residents and creating opportunities for connection, laughter, and meaning.
Outside of work, I enjoy gardening, walking in National Trust gardens, going to concerts and opera, exploring history, and reading.
It’s a privilege to be part of a team that values each person’s uniqueness. I look forward to bringing warmth, creativity, and care to every day.
Celebrating life at Lotus Manor Care Home

Dementia Friendly Pamper Day!
Last week brought a truly heart‑warming experience to our home, turning an ordinary day into something beautifully memorable. As part of Dementia Awareness Week, we welcomed Hayley, a wonderfully talented therapist who arrived with a calming presence and a suitcase full of pampering magic for our Dementia Friendly Pamper Day!
From the moment she began, the soft music, gentle laughter, and the unmistakable feeling of being cared for filled our home. Our residents quickly settled into the experience, enjoying soothing massages and facials to immaculate manicures that left everyone glowing.
Just like any special day here, our residents added their own sparkle. Pat and Eileen couldn’t stop admiring their freshly painted nails.

Duckling Bath Time Brings Joy To Our Home!
There has been a special kind of excitement in our home over the past week, thanks to the arrival of our newly hatched ducklings. From the moment they joined us, these tiny bundles of fluff have captured everyone’s hearts and quickly become part of our daily routine.
Yesterday was an especially memorable day as our residents gathered for the ducklings’ bath time. The room was filled with laughter, gentle splashes, and plenty of smiles as everyone helped care for our newest little members. Watching the ducklings paddle around with curiosity and confidence brought a sense of calm and joy for all of our residents.
Our ducklings are growing fast, and we’re excited to continue watching them explore their world and to share many more heart-warming moments with our residents along the way.
If you would like to come along to our home and visit our new fluffy friends please call us on 01483 359340!

Celebrating Mothers Day at Lotus Manor

Lotus Manor Celebrates Chinese New Year!
This week, Lotus Manor was filled with colour, culture, and celebration as we marked Chinese New Year together. The home came alive with the wonderful sights, sounds, and flavours of this special occasion, creating a joyful atmosphere enjoyed by residents and team members alike.
Everyone was treated to a selection of delicious traditional foods, which brought a real taste of celebration to the day. The sound of traditional Chinese music added to the festive spirit, creating a lively backdrop that had many of our residents smiling, tapping along, and reminiscing.
A highlight of the day was an engaging and informative talk from our very own General Manager, Candy. She shared personal insights and stories about Chinese New Year traditions, offering a deeper understanding of the customs and meanings behind the celebration. Her warmth and enthusiasm made the experience even more memorable for everyone who joined.

A Special History talk from Nigel Lawson
We are delighted to share a heart‑warming moment from this week at our home, when we had the pleasure of welcoming the wonderful Nigel Lawson for one of his engaging musical and historical talks.
Sessions like these mean so much to our residents and team. Nigel’s warmth, passion, and gift for storytelling created an atmosphere that felt both nostalgic and uplifting. Together, we travelled back through time, reminiscing about favourite musicians, cherished memories, and the songs that have shaped different chapters of our lives.
It was a joy to see how animated and connected everyone became as we shared joy in old time favourite tunes, sharing personal stories, and celebrating the power of music to bring people together.
We are truly grateful to Nigel for joining us and making the afternoon so special. Creating opportunities like this, where residents feel inspired, valued, and part of something meaningful, will always be at the heart of what we do. We look forward to welcoming him back for another fantastic session very soon.
Lotus Manor Hosts Its First Ever Summer BBQ – A Night of Community, Music and Celebration
Lotus Manor marked a joyful milestone this week as we hosted our first ever summer BBQ since opening our doors just eight months ago. What began as a hopeful plan for a sunny evening quickly turned into something even better — a celebration filled with warmth, laughter, and community spirit that shone far brighter than the British weather.
From the moment families, residents, neighbours and friends stepped through our doors, the atmosphere was buzzing. Even as the rain made its appearance, everyone brought the sunshine indoors, turning our home into a lively hub of music, conversation and shared joy.
At the heart of the evening was our hostess with the mostess, Preyana, who transformed our cocktail bar into the place to be. Her colourful creations, cheerful energy and effortless charm kept glasses full and spirits high all night long.
Adding to the magic was The Shades, a fantastic Ripley‑based band whose live music filled he home with rhythm, nostalgia and feel‑good summer vibes, with our very own Care Assistant John stealing the show with his now‑legendary dance moves.
Of course, no BBQ would be complete without delicious food, and our talented chef Danbar delivered in style. Guests enjoyed sizzling sausages, juicy burgers and a mouth‑watering selection of freshly prepared dishes that had everyone going back for seconds.
What made the evening truly special, though, was the sense of togetherness. Seeing residents laughing with their families, neighbours chatting with staff, and the local community coming together under one roof reminded us exactly why Lotus Manor was created people feel connected, welcomed and at home.
Easter Cheer at Lotus Manor!
There was a wonderful sense of Easter cheer at Lotus Manor this week as residents and staff came together for a day filled with colour, creativity and of course the traditional easter egg hunt!
Laughter drifted through our home as everyone and their families got stuck into decorating, sharing memories of past Easters and comparing whose chocolate selection was the best.
Jennifer was especially delighted as she carefully , helped our activities coordinator prepare the easter decorations whilst Pat and Brian's great granddaughter got stuck in with the easter egg hunt. There is no doubt they both did incredibly well with finding all the chocolate eggs!
Days like this highlight the true meaning of Lotus Manor, bringing friends, family and multiple generations together to bring warmth, laughter and a family feel.

Bill becomes first resident to complete our most challenging puzzle!!
This week we celebrated a very special achievement. Our wonderful resident Bill has become the first person at Lotus Manor to complete our beautiful puzzle of the old Boughton Hall, The home that once stood on this very site before Lotus Manor was built.
This wasn’t an easy puzzle by any means, but Bill approached it with patience, determination, and his trademark sense of humour. Watching the image of Boughton Hall slowly come together felt like watching a piece of local history come back to life.
At Lotus Manor, the stories of Send and Ripley are woven into our daily life. Many of our residents have deep roots in the area, and keeping that history alive through memories, conversations, and even puzzles is something we treasure.
A huge well done to Bill for completing this special puzzle and helping us honour the past while we enjoy the present together.

Residents sing their hearts out during monthly choir practice
We are delighted to share a heart‑warming moment from life in our home this week, when our residents enjoyed a truly uplifting session with our monthly dementia‑friendly choir.
From the moment the wonderful Nina Bromham struck the first note, the atmosphere was transformed. Familiar melodies filled the room, voices blended beautifully, and smiles spread from one resident to the next. Music has a remarkable way of unlocking memories and creating connection, and this session was no exception.
This month brought an extra touch of excitement as our residents had the chance to play the drums and join in with the instrumental side of the morning. The rhythmic fun quickly became the highlight of the day, sparking lively conversation around the lunch table as everyone reminisced about their favourite songs and musical moments.
Our dementia‑friendly choir meets on the second Tuesday of every month, offering a warm, informal and welcoming space for anyone who would benefit from shared music and companionship.
Next session: 10th March, 10:30–11:30am
An Afternoon With the Silver Friends Group at Lotus Manor
This week, Lotus Manor was delighted to host the Silver Friends Group for an afternoon filled with conversation, laughter, and good company. Guests enjoyed tea, freshly prepared sandwiches, and scones straight from the oven, creating a welcoming atmosphere that brought everyone together.
The gathering was a wonderful opportunity for friends old and new to connect, share stories, and enjoy time together in a relaxed setting. The room was alive with smiles and conversation, making it clear how much these moments mean to everyone involved.
We are pleased to announce that the Silver Friends Group will now be joining us at Lotus Manor every third Thursday of the month for afternoon tea. It’s a chance to enjoy delicious treats, meet new people, and be part of a friendly community.

Lotus Manor Residents get their dancing shoes on!
Yesterday brought something truly special to our home, transforming an ordinary afternoon into one we’ll be talking about for a long time. We were delighted to welcome Katie Lewis from Tap about Dancing dancing who embraced our home with her West End flair! She filled every corner of the room with energy from the moment she began to perform!
Our residents very quickly became part of the show with Pat taking centre stage with sparkly top hats and dancing sticks, giving everyone a performance that had the room cheering. Meanwhile, Doreen embraced her inner rock‑and‑roll star, delivering an unforgettable air‑guitar routine that earned her first prize and plenty of applause!

Springtime Animal Visitors Bring Joy to the Home
There was a real buzz of springtime magic in the home this week as we welcomed some very special guests, Playful lambs, soft‑eared rabbits and a wonderfully calm chicken who took it all in her stride.
Lilian’s face lit up the moment she held the baby lamb in her arms, her smile growing wider with every little nuzzle. Nearby, Mary was completely absorbed as she fed a rabbit a bright orange carrot, which disappeared almost as quickly as it was offered. Brian, meanwhile, spent a peaceful moment stroking the chicken, who seemed just as relaxed and content as he was.
These simple, heartfelt interactions filled the home with warmth. It’s moments like these that truly brighten the day for everyone.

World Book Day Fun with Send CofE Primary School!
We had a brilliant time celebrating World Book Day with a visit to Send CofE Primary School. Our residents were welcomed with plenty of enthusiasm, and it wasn’t long before everyone settled in to read stories together. The children’s excitement and our residents’ enjoyment created a warm, lively atmosphere throughout the afternoon.
The visit continued with a mix of traditional games, where children and residents teamed up—or occasionally went head‑to‑head, in everything from Puzzles with Pat to card games led by Jennifer. The friendly competition brought lots of laughter and competitive conversation.
It was the kind of day that leaves everyone in great spirits. Spending time with our little neighbours from the primary school is always a highlight for everyone at Lotus Manor, and we’re already looking forward to seeing them again very soon.

A Lovely Day Out at Marks & Spencer
We are delighted to share a wonderful moment from life in our home last week, when our residents enjoyed a much‑anticipated shopping trip to Marks & Spencer.
Outings like these are always a highlight. They offer the chance to explore something new, enjoy a change of scenery, and spend time together. This visit was no exception. Our residents had a fantastic time browsing the latest fashion, admiring the new seasonal displays, and chatting about their favourite styles and memories of shopping trips over the years.
And of course, no trip to M&S would be complete without a stop at their café. A warm drink, a sweet treat, and plenty of conversation made the perfect finishing touch to a lovely afternoon.
Creating opportunities for our residents to stay connected to the wider community, enjoy meaningful experiences, and share moments of fun and companionship will always be at the heart of what we do. We’re already looking forward to planning our next adventure together.

A Cosy January Morning at Ferma Farm Shop & Bistro!
This week, a few of our residents enjoyed a lovely morning out at the Ferma Farm Shop and Bistro in Ripley. It turned out to be exactly what we all needed to brighten a chilly January morning. Doreen and Pat treated themselves to the luxury hot chocolate, and it really was every bit as delicious as we had heard. Rich, warming and wonderfully indulgent, it lifted our spirits straight away and helped chase off the January blues. We do love our sweet treats here at Lotus Manor, and this one certainly didn’t disappoint.
We spent time looking out over the beautiful views of Ripley village while chatting about old memories and sharing stories that always make us smile. There was something very comforting about the whole moment, the kind of simple pleasure that stays with you long after you return home.
The luxury didn’t end with the hot chocolate. At Lotus Manor, that sense of comfort and enjoyment is part of everyday life. The perfect combination of Luxury living but with a relaxed family feel.
We are already looking forward to our next outing and perhaps another visit to Ferma for more of that unforgettable hot chocolate.
