Activities at Lotus Manor Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kristiina Owen

Activities Coordinator

My name is Kristiina Owen and I’ve been leading activities in care homes for over a decade.

I first started as a volunteer and quickly realised how much I loved spending time with residents—so much so that I changed careers to focus on activity provision full-time.

I’m passionate about delivering person-centred activities that reflect each resident’s individual story, interests, and wishes. My approach always begins with getting to know everyone personally—listening to their life histories, learning what brings them joy, and tailoring experiences that truly resonate.

Whether it’s a quiet moment of conversation, a lively group outing, or a creative project, I believe every interaction matters. I love spending time with residents and creating opportunities for connection, laughter, and meaning.

Outside of work, I enjoy gardening, walking in National Trust gardens, going to concerts and opera, exploring history, and reading.

It’s a privilege to be part of a team that values each person’s uniqueness. I look forward to bringing warmth, creativity, and care to every day.

Celebrating life at Lotus Manor Care Home

Lotus Manor hosts halloween party!

Lotus Manor hosts halloween party!

We’ve been getting into the seasonal spirit here at Lotus Manor, and Halloween gave us the perfect opportunity to celebrate with pumpkin decorating, halloween themed donuts and ofcourse our Halloween Party!

Here we have our wonderful resident , Pat who  brought joy and colour to the day with her pumpkin decorating. Her smile lit up the room as she carefully crafted her design, showing just how much fun can be found in these simple, shared moments.

It was a heart-warming day filled with laughter, creativity, and the kind of community spirit that makes Lotus Manor feel like home.

Nothing beats a trip to the pub!

Nothing beats a trip to the pub!

This week, we had the pleasure of taking our wonderful resident Brian on a seasonal outing to the Saddlers Arms, a local pub beautifully adorned with autumn and Halloween decorations.

The setting was perfect for a crisp autumn day. Brian settled in by the crackling fireplace with a comforting cappuccino and a few biscuits – a simple yet delightful treat that added to the cozy atmosphere.

What made the visit even more special was a surprise encounter with one of the pub’s friendly four-legged regulars. It was a lovely moment that truly brightened Brian’s afternoon.

It was a heart-warming outing filled with seasonal charm, good company, and memorable moments. We’re already looking forward to planning more trips like this and continuing to create joyful experiences for our residents.

To mark this special milestone, he was presented with a hamper of goodies and enjoyed a stunning cake made in his honour. There was plenty of laughter, conversation, and cheer as everyone came together to make Brian feel at home.

Our Home Manager Candy enjoyed showing guests around the home, giving them a first look at the beautifully designed spaces that will soon be home to our residents. It was wonderful to share a toast together, enjoy some refreshments, and talk about the exciting times ahead as we prepare to open our doors on the 12th September.

The evening was filled with conversation, laughter and a real sense of community spirit. Events like this are so important in helping our future residents feel part of the village, and we are looking forward to building strong links with those living nearby.

Music creates friendships at Lotus Manor

Music creates friendships at Lotus Manor

We had the pleasure of welcoming a talented entertainer to Lotus Manor, who brought along his ukulele for a joyful afternoon of singing and dancing!

The atmosphere was filled with warmth and laughter as our residents listened, sang along, and even had the chance to try their hand at playing the ukulele themselves. It was a truly interactive experience that sparked smiles and wonderful memories.

One of the highlights of the day was capturing a lovely group photo of Brian, Pat, and Ann who bonded over sharing similar taste in music!

It was a heart-warming afternoon filled with dancing, laughter and new found friendships. We’re so grateful for opportunities like this that bring happiness and creativity into our home, and we look forward to many more musical visits to come.

Our home was full of colour, warmth, and joy as we came together to celebrate Diwali — the Festival of Lights.

The atmosphere was lively and festive, with residents, staff, and guests enjoying traditional dishes, vibrant outfits, music, and beautiful decorations that lit up the day. There was a real buzz throughout the home, and it was wonderful to see everyone joining in the celebration.

Ann, our resident ambassador, especially loved the food, and there were smiles all around as care staff and residents danced together to music played by our very own talented team.

Lotus Manor Visits Virginia Water!

Lotus Manor Visits Virginia Water!

We were excited to head out on our very first trip since opening Lotus Manor Care Home , a lovely visit to Virginia Water with our residents.

The day was calm and cheerful. Everyone enjoyed a gentle walk, taking in the fresh air and beautiful views. Pat and Ann were especially happy by the waterfalls, and we caught a great photo of them smiling and enjoying the moment.

After the walk, we stopped by the café for a well deserved warm drink, which was the perfect way to end the outing.

It was a great start to many more adventures ahead. We’re already looking forward to planning more trips and making happy memories with our residents.

Chef wows staff with delicious cooking!

Chef wows staff with delicious cooking!

This week, we had the pleasure of enjoying a special tasting event at Lotus Manor this week, as our talented chef Dambar prepared a delicious menu for our hardworking team.

The menu featured comforting lentil soup, a flavourful chicken curry, and the most irresistible chocolate brownies. Judging by the smiles and the empty plates , it was clear that everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

It was a wonderful opportunity to share not only the fantastic food but also the warm and welcoming atmosphere that we’re so excited to bring to Lotus Manor when we open our doors. Moments like this remind us of the memories and community spirit we look forward to creating here.

A big thank you goes to Dambar for his fantastic cooking, and to everyone for their hard work these last few weeks!

Cooling Down our Local Heroes

Cooling Down our Local Heroes

Last week, our team had the pleasure of visiting our incredible local emergency services to say a heartfelt Thankyou for everything they do.

With the summer heat in full swing, we wanted to make sure they stayed cool and refreshed, so we arrived with cold drinks, ice creams, and plenty of smiles to share. It was a small gesture, but one filled with gratitude for the tireless care, protection, and support they provide to our community every single day.

Taking the time to give back, even in simple ways, reminds us of the importance of kindness and teamwork,  values we will be bringing into our home for our residents and their families.

We’re so proud to be part of this wonderful community, and we look forward to many more opportunities to support, celebrate, and thank the people who keep us safe.

We were delighted to welcome Jez from the Send and Ripley History Society today.

Jez shared some fascinating insights into the history of the land our brand-new home is built on, as well as stories from the local Ripley and Send areas. It was a brilliant opportunity for our team to learn more about the roots of our community and the rich heritage that surrounds us.

As we prepare to welcome our first residents from the 12th September, we’re so excited to continue building this connection with the History Society. We can’t wait for Jez to return  and reminisce with our residents, sharing stories and memories that will make everyone feel even more at home.
