Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which will be reflected in the activities they organise.

Activities Lead

Hi, my name is Drew. I have worked in the care sector for 2½ years, after previously working as a hairdresser. I absolutely love being in care and everything it involves especially spending time with residents and seeing them day to day. Knowing that I’ve made even the smallest difference to someone’s life brings me the greatest enjoyment.

I’ll be here, there and everywhere, so please don’t hesitate to ask me anything. If I can help, I will, if not, I’ll make sure I find someone who can. As we are a family at Elderwood and just want the best for our residents.

I’m a family-oriented person who loves baking, spending time with loved ones, and going on holiday.

Celebrating life at Elderwood House Care Home

A Lovely Trip to Millbrook Garden Centre

Our residents enjoyed a lovely outing to Millbrook Garden Centre, Pepper Hill, where there was plenty to see and enjoy!

We had a wander around the garden centre, admired the beautiful plants , and had a peek at all the wonderful Christmas decorations and festive displays . Of course, no trip would be complete without a well-deserved coffee and a little catch-up in the garden centre’s restaurant!

Starting the Day with Chair Exercises

Our residents love beginning their mornings with some gentle chair exercises and stretches!

It’s a simple but meaningful way to keep moving, supporting mobility, flexibility, strength and confidence, while enjoying time together. Most importantly, there are always plenty of smiles and encouragement along the way!

The Little Things

Sometimes, something as small as sitting together and playing a game can mean so much.

Our café was full of laughter, conversation and a little friendly competition! Games bring people together, create friendships and make wonderful memories.

Birds of Prey at Coolings Lifestyle

Our residents had a wonderful day out at Coolings Lifestyle, getting up close to some magnificent birds of prey! A lovely day filled with learning, exploring and making special memories together.

At Elderwood, we love creating meaningful experiences both in and outside the home.

A Taste of the Seaside

Residents at Elderwood House enjoyed a wonderful seaside-themed celebration, bringing the fun and nostalgia of the British coast right to our home. With traditional fish and chips, seaside games, music and plenty of laughter, the day was filled with smiles, happy memories and opportunities to spend quality time together. Creating meaningful experiences like these is just one of the many ways we support wellbeing and make every day enjoyable at Elderwood House.

Baking, Teamwork & Sweet Treats

Our residents enjoyed a lovely baking session, working together to make delicious biscuits and brownies, sharing plenty of laughs along the way!

And of course, the best part was sitting down together at the end with a freshly baked brownie and a cup of tea — the perfect way to enjoy the fruits of our teamwork!

Respite Reunion

Elderwood House recently welcomed back some familiar faces for its first Respite Reunion, bringing together former respite guests and their families for a relaxed fish and chip lunch.

The afternoon provided a lovely opportunity for guests to reconnect with the team, catch up with friends they had made during their stays and share their memories of life at Elderwood House.

We’ve loved celebrating birthdays close together — our lovely residents Gill & Wilma, and our very own Activities Coordinator Drew!

Plenty of cake, smiles & a little spoiling all round, compliments to the chefs!

An Afternoon of Poetry

Requested by our residents, our poetry afternoon offered a chance to share favourite poems, discover new verses and enjoy meaningful conversations together. A wonderful activity that encourages reminiscence, creativity and connection

Good food, great company and lots of laughter

There’s nothing better than bringing people together over delicious food, and that’s exactly what happened at our latest Cheese & Wine Afternoon at Elderwood House.

Thoughtfully organised by our fantastic Activities Coordinator, Drew, and supported by Michelle, one of our caring team members, the afternoon was filled with a wonderful selection of cheeses, plenty of conversation and lots of laughter. It was the perfect opportunity for residents to socialise, reminisce and simply enjoy each other’s company.

A Big Day Out at Notcutts

Our residents had a fantastic day out at Notcutts Garden Centre! From enjoying the aquarium and browsing the shops, to having a look at gorgeous plants and, of course, trying on some fabulous hats!

There was plenty to see, lots of laughs and something for everyone to enjoy. A brilliant day filled with fun, friendship and wonderful memories!

Late Nights & Good Company

There’s something special about an evening at Elderwood when our residents come together for a game, a little wine spritz and plenty of laughter!

The atmosphere is always full of warmth, friendship and fun. We’re not just a care home — we’re one big family, and these are the moments that make life so special.

Making Wishes Come True at Elderwood

Bluewater has always been one of Eileen’s favourite places to visit, and this time she made it even more special by taking her friends along too!

A lovely day out, lots of laughs and, of course, three bags of shopping to come home with!

Meaningful outings like these are so important to our residents — creating memories, friendships and making those little wishes come true.

Adventure Awaits

At Elderwood House, we have our own fully accessible minibus, helping our residents enjoy regular trips out and about in the local community.

Whether it’s a visit to a favourite café, a scenic drive, lunch out, shopping or discovering somewhere new, we tailor our trips around the interests and wishes of our residents.

Stretch, smile and feel your best

Keeping active has never been so much fun!

Our residents recently enjoyed a gentle chair stretching session, thoughtfully organised by Zina, helping everyone improve flexibility, mobility and circulation while enjoying plenty of smiles along the way.

Chair-based exercises are a fantastic way to build confidence, maintain independence and support overall wellbeing, and judging by the laughter in the room, everyone had a wonderful time!

A huge thank you to Zina for organising such an enjoyable session and encouraging everyone to get moving together.
