Activities at Bere Grove Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Activities Lead

I joined the Bere Grove Care Home team in September 2025 as Activities Lead. I have over 10 years of experience in the care sector. I started my journey as a support worker and have progressed to my current role. I am passionate about creating moments of joy and making residents smile, ensuring every day is engaging and meaningful. My favourite activities in the home include exercise sessions and organising special events. I like to bring energy and enthusiasm to everything I plan for the residents.

Celebrating life at Bere Grove Care Home

Welcome to Chris Buck

Welcome to Chris Buck

Residents at Bere Grove were lucky enough to welcome Chris Buck back for another fantastic performance in our café this week.

Chris is always wonderfully entertaining, taking song requests and keeping everyone engaged with his fun little music quizzes. We have one resident in particular who is very hot on the quiz and never fails to impress with their musical knowledge!

There was plenty of singing along, laughter and smiles all round, Chris we look forward to welcoming you back again soon.
Beside the Sea!

Beside the Sea!

Our residents made the most of the sunshine this week with a lovely trip to Hayling Island.

Sitting along the beachfront near the Hayling Light Railway, they enjoyed the fresh air and beautiful views. With a residents binoculars they all had a chance at spotting boats on the water and looking across to the Isle of Wight.

It was even necessary to wear a sun hat, a perfect day to relax by the sea. I'm sure you will agree, the view was simply stunning.
A Trip Down Memory Lane

A Trip Down Memory Lane

Bere Grove residents took a trip down memory lane this week with a visit to 19 Fourteas Tearoom in Havant. It was such a brilliant tea room and provided our residents with an amazing experience, we can't recommend it enough.
The tea room was full of memorabilia that sparked conversation and memories, and the residents loved chatting all things war time, it certainly brought history back to life.
Thank you for making us feel so welcome, we will definitely be back soon!
Bere Grove Start Planting for a Bumper Crop

Bere Grove Start Planting for a Bumper Crop

Our green-fingered resident Brian, hosted a fantastic gardening activity in our beautifully Orangery. It was a lovely afternoon enjoyed by all. Residents rolled up their sleeves and planted broccoli, tomatoes, carrots and much more. Brian shared his top tips and told residents, they just need to be patient. Once we see green shoots, they will be moved to the potting shed before being planted out in the raised beds once spring arrives, where we expect them to flourish over the months ahead.

A big thank you Brian for sharing your knowledge and for leading a wonderful and engaging activity.
Employee of the Month

Employee of the Month

Huge congratulations to Emma, one of our amazing carers at Bere Grove for being awarded Employee of the Month!

Emma's kindness, dedication and genuine care shines through every single day. She goes above and beyond for the residents she supports and is always there for her colleagues. We're so proud to have her as part of the Bere Grove Care Team. Emma thank you for everything you do, this recognition is so well deserved.
Bringing the Garden to Life

Bringing the Garden to Life

Bere Grove residents enjoyed a trip to the local nursery, Keydell in Horndean, to pick up plants and equipment for the next gardening activity on Friday.

There was lots of excitement as everyone browsed the plants and searched for items on the list carefully prepared by our resident Brian, who is very knowledgeable and green fingered when it comes to gardening.

Please do and visit us in the coming months to see how the garden is coming to life.
Bere Grove Celebrates International Women's Day

Bere Grove Celebrates International Women's Day

Bere Grove opened it's door to the local community to celebrate International Women’s Day, hosting a special event dedicated to recognising and honouring the incredible women locally who make a difference every day.

The event brought together a diverse group of professionals, community leaders, and local guests for lunch to celebrate their achievements, experiences, and contributions of women within the community. Attendees shared personal stories, professional journeys, and reflections on the progress they have made.
Thank you to everyone that attended
Eyes Down and Dabbers at the Ready

Eyes Down and Dabbers at the Ready

It was eyes down and dabbers at the ready at Bere Grove as our residents joined the Barchester Bingo Bonanza today!
Our residents joined in a nationwide game of bingo with our other 260 homes across Barchester Healthcare. It was wonderful to be part of such a big event, all playing together at the same time!
There were plenty of prizes, lots of laughter and smiles all round. A brilliant way to bring everyone together for some friendly competition and community spirit.
Well done to all the lucky winners, we hope you enjoy your prizes for a line and a full house.
Improving Strength and Flexibility

Improving Strength and Flexibility

Today our residents took part in a fantastic exercise session focused on building strength and improving flexibility. With guided movements, gentle stretches, and lots of encouragement, everyone worked at their own pace while staying active and engaged. These sessions not only support physical health, balance, and mobility, but also boost confidence and wellbeing and there were plenty of smiles along the way!

We’re so proud of the effort and enthusiasm shown by everyone who joined in. Staying active together makes it even more enjoyable!

Italian Day At Bere Grove

Italian Day At Bere Grove

Bere Grove residents celebrated Italian Day today in true Mediterranean style, there was even a glimmer of sun, to make us think we were in the Mediterranean! This morning started with a screening of 'The Italian Job' originally produced in 1969 and written by Troy Kennedy, this brought back memories of what everyone was doing back in the swinging 60s!

Next it was an Italian lunch, bursting with authentic flavours and beautifully prepared by our Italian Chef Nico. Nico then kindly spent the afternoon with residents baking authentic Focaccia. Residents had visited Sainsbury's to buy the ingredients on their trip last week. The smell throughout the home was delicious and the bread was enjoyed by all.

However, the fun of Italian Day didn't stop there, late afternoon, residents enjoyed a themed quiz in the Café, and what they didn't know about Italy, they certainly know now.
Easter Preparations Get Underway!

Easter Preparations Get Underway!

Residents at Bere Grove Care Home enjoyed a sunny afternoon in the orangery, getting creative making Easter cards in preparation for the celebrations ahead.

With the sunshine streaming through the glass lantern, it was a lovely and relaxing way to spend the afternoon.
Canvas Painting

Canvas Painting

Today at Bere Grove our residents enjoyed a creative afternoon painting beautiful flowers onto canvas.

There was quiet concentration as everyone focused on their masterpieces, carefully choosing colours and perfecting every brushstroke. The results were simply stunning!

We are so proud of the creativity, a lovely way to brighten up the day!

Celebrating Making Space's ReachOut+ Programme

Celebrating Making Space's ReachOut+ Programme

Barchester’s Charitable Foundation awarded Making Space a grant to support some of the costs of their pilot group ReachOut+ a mentoring program for young adults with additional needs. An inspiring initiative from this fantastic community arts charity. Over the last 17 years Making Space has delivered hundreds of valuable projects within the local area.
We were delighted to welcome the team to Bere Grove Care Home today, where we had the opportunity to learn more about the valuable work they do in the community and explore how we can support one another and collaborate in the future. Partnerships like this make such a difference in our communities.
What an amazing charity Making Space is, we’re so excited to see the positive impact this pilot group will have and to be part of the journey!

t was game time at Bere Grove today. Residents put on their thinking caps and had a fantastic time playing a scramble word game. They whizzed through the levels using the interactive Bere Grove Magic Table, which makes activities like this more inclusive, and allows us to tailor games to the needs and abilities of each resident.
Each activity at Bere Grove is designed not only to be primarily fun, it is to keep minds active, encourage social connection but most importantly bring joy to each and every resident.
