Independence of 'utmost importance' for those with limited mobility

People using home care due to mobility problems are likely to want to retain some independence.

According to Lili Hoag, senior policy and communications officer at Counsel and Care, it is "incredibly important" that these wishes are met.

She explained that staying independent, healthy and positive regarding living environment can help with staying fitter for longer.

"That way they can stay in their homes for longer and in some ways that is better for families and better for the country, because it reduces the burden on the NHS," she continued.

The expert also spoke of the importance of mobility aids, which allow patients to leave their homes.

She said that as long as it is not endangering anyone's health and safety, getting out of the house in this way is of the "utmost importance".

In other news, music therapy could be used to treat people with depression, according to Pauline Etkin, chief executive officer at music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins.

The expert explained that music has the power to re-motivate and energise people with the condition.
