Windmill Manor

Bringing first-class care to Surrey
Windmill Manor is a brand new purpose-built 60-bed care home in Hurst Green, close to Oxted in Surrey.
We provide nursing and residential care services as well as personalised dementia care in one of Barchester's unique Memory Lane Communities.
The Memory Lane Community is specially designed for those living with a dementia using colour schemes that easily enable residents to identify areas within the home, yellow for dining areas for example. It also features life skills kitchens on two floors, where residents can be involved in everyday kitchen activities such as baking and setting the table.
The whole home is designed to create a home-like feel with furnishings designed with older people in mind, from the sofas and chairs in the living rooms to the sculpted gardens.
Windmill Manor features a range of services and facilities including a coffee area, hair salon and large courtyard garden. All bedrooms are en-suite and some of the ground floor bedrooms have a patio. Throughout the home there is a range of communal and dining facilities to suit people who enjoy socialising as well as those who prefer quieter activities.

Getting in Tune with Eileen Thomas
Eileen who will be celebrating her 99th Birthday later this year was giving piano lessons to Sylvia, the Activities Organiser. Eileen used to play piano with her Father, so the opportunity of playing it again today brought many happy memories for Eileen.

Boccia Day
A group of residents were divided into two groups of five to compete in game of Boccia. Boccia is quite similar to carpet bowls but the difference is that Boccia is a paralympic sport on national and international level. We had the professional support of the Chairman from Caterham Sports Centre, John, who kindly came to explain to residents about the rules and to support us. The Boccia Project in the Tandridge District has an aim to raise awareness about paralympic disciplines which could be played by elderly in the care home environment. This was the first step in celebrating The 2012 Olympics at Windmill Manor and there's more to come over the Games time in July and August. Sylvia the Activities Organiser said "Boccia is great way of involving residents as they all love to compete with each other. It is a fantastic way of stimulating residents and getting new ideas which can be used in your event diary."

Pamper Day
We had Pamper Day last Friday. Employees from the local Boots store came to do mini facials and mini make-ups for our ladies. But not only ladies joined in, we had some brave gentlemen who experienced mini facials for the first time ever. One of the gentlemen said that he didn't feel big difference but it's never too late to try something new. Sylvia, the Activities Organiser said: "We are very lucky to have such a great relationship with the local Boots store, they are so helpful. They come to Windmill Manor a few times a year to do free Pamper Days for Residents and Staff. They also provide toiletries for our residents. They are coming on our Classic Car Show later this summer to do similar treatments".

Visit to Moor House School
Moor House School invited residents of Windmill Manor to come to their school to have a look around and enjoy some homemade cakes and teas. We had a look at the school's brand new swimming pool and sports hall where residents tried out some of the games, then after a good walk around we stopped for tea and cakes and students were chatting to residents about their experiences. Last stop was a meeting with the school's Guinea Pigs. Moor House School is a great place to visit and the residents enjoyed it so much that they have invited the children and their teachers to Windmill Manor for cream tea in the next few weeks.

Garden Centre Visit
Residents from Windmill Manor enjoyed a beautiful day at the local garden centre.
