Southerndown in the Spring
Residents here at Southerndown have taken advantage all week of a sudden, and very welcome, change in the weather. With temperatures soaring in our courtyards it's been lovely to get out and about, planting, tidying and watching the fruits of previous labours bloom, burst and roar back into tremendous life in riots of colour. After such a long winter we'd almost forgotten the names of the fish in our pond! The Kitchen team have done us proud with some fantastic meals out in the gardens. Let's hope that this is the start of a long, hot Summer!

Valentine’s Day Party
Southerndown got in the romantic mood and had a special Valentine’s Day Party. We all had a fantastic time with Kevin "the singing postman" entertaining us with his hits from the 50’s, 60's and 70's. Kevin did a very good impression of Elvis Presley and had us hit the dance floor with our groovy moves. We also celebrated our Dignity in Action Day and made a Wish Tree for all the residents and staff who wanted to make a wish. As you can see the tree was very busy and now we are making these wishes come true.

Pancake Day at Southerndown
The best laid plans…. are subject to the weather! Lat year's Pancake Race here at Southerndown has entered into the Events Hall of Fame with residents, staff, families and friends, and indeed most of Chipping Norton! We were hoping for a repeat performance this year and again we had close to thirty people in the running, vying for that coveted number one position! Training got underway, along with, dare we say, quite a competitive edge emerging among some participants. We were all looking forward to the day so much. Then, however, disaster struck! Snow! Undaunted by this minor setback we relocated plans indoors for a pancake tossing competition! With much fun being had by all and cheered on by the residents it was perhaps appropriate that the eventual winner was the Head Chef!

Christmas Party
Southerndown celebrated Christmas in style. After weeks of preparation, the tree was decked, the cake was made, the home was decorated and then Santa made a special visit. Residents were delighted as he took the time to chat and share gifts as we all got in to the festive spirit.

Bonfire Night
Remember remember the 5th of November... We certainly will, what a night we had! Residents, families, friends and staff had a terrific time here at Southerndown with our party to celebrate Bonfire night. Our Piano Man, came in to entertain the crowds while we fortified ourselves for the upcoming trip outside with a delicious, hearty buffet and mulled wine. We had such a good time at the party that some of us were almost too tired to go on to the firework display, but after some more mulled wine we soon rallied! Off we went into the crisp Chipping Norton night, through the sparklers, our gateway to the stars, round to the paddock where our display launched! And what a display! The sky was soon alive and dancing with amazing bursts of gold, scarlet and green, accompanied by our soundtrack of whoops! What an exciting time we had, we can’t wait to do it again.
"We just wanted to say to each and everyone of you, thanks and sincere gratitude for the excellent care you gave our Mum during her last couple of years at Southerndown. She was never the easiest of patients, but you made it look so easy with all of your unending patience. Words cannot express in anyway just how indebted to all of you at Southerndown we are, we will miss seeing you all on such a regular basis. We really appreciate everyone making Mum's stay a comfortable one, it's often said but it really was a Home away from Home."
"Thank you so much for everything over Christmas time. Being able to move our Mum into respite so last minute was a God send. She is so happy with you that it made the hard family decision that we’d been putting off to put her into permanent care an easy one. Thank you all so much for everything, your patience and your care for both our Mum and us."
"I shall be forever thankful for all the care and all of the love that everyone there showed to our Mum in the last years of her life, you were all like a big family to her and us. From the day she arrived until the day she slipped away from us, I always felt that not only was she safe and well looked after but I also felt that she was looked after by people that genuinely cared. A big thank you to all of you as well for all the kindness you showed me during these last few difficult weeks, you will never know how much I've appreciated all the kindness and understanding you showed me or how much I will also be missing you all. "
"To all of the Staff on Memory Lane. Thank you for taking care of our Mum. You showed so much patience, so much care, you are all angels. God bless you all. "
"My brother and I would like to thank you all so much for the care you gave to our Father. At all times we felt assured that he was receiving the best care and support that his condition required. We have always been made welcome by all the staff, who were there for us at all times. Thank you once again. "
"Thank you for the devoted care of my sister. She could not have been better looked after in the time she spent with you. You are all lovely people and mine and my daughter’s minds were at rest knowing that my sister was safe in your hands. God bless you all."
